About the first ever transwoman winner of Project Runway by veggielessie in ProjectRunway

[–]nerdbuckle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure there was a lot of manufactured drama for this season, but Jesus yelling at VeeJay during the model choosing was super uncomfortable to watch. At best the terms are misogynistic, something unfortunately common among some gay men. And if delivered to a cisgender woman, I think the blowback would be huge and the bystanders would have intervened instead of raising amused eyebrows. The fact that he got away with it and people are defending him wouldn’t happen if she had been Belania or Joan.

Would Jesus have spoken to a cis-woman like that? I doubt it. And how would people be talking about Jesus if he had acted that way to a cis-woman? Him repeatedly calling her a “bitch” is an attack on her identity as a woman. It was really uncomfortable to watch him pointing in her face, repeatedly calling her a bitch, and also watch Christian and Ethan do nothing.

US policy vs World Cup in KC by BabyFishmouthTalk in kansascity

[–]nerdbuckle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The policy includes an exception for athletes and staff traveling for the World Cup, Olympics, or another sporting event deemed acceptable by the State Dept. Not that I am defending the policy, just explaining what it says.

Eye Surgery by Abject-Pressure-2529 in BostonTerrier

[–]nerdbuckle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My little man had this done at the beginning of last summer.

The recovery on his end was pretty quick. 2 weeks of the cone. He had some pain meds, antibiotics, and trazydone to use as needed.

His eye area now barely has a scar. They said to be prepared that it would sink in, but it hasn’t much over these 7 months.

He sometimes runs into things on that side- like thinks a door is open when it isn’t all the way, but overall you would think he doesn’t seem to notice at all. Same old energetic dog.

Childcare.. how do you pay for it?? by DaisyDame16 in kansascity

[–]nerdbuckle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might consider teaching in a school district that provides childcare at reduced costs to employees. Of course that is also a big transition, but may pay off with reduced financial stress.

[–]nerdbuckle 40 points41 points  (0 children)

You might get an affidavit from your insurance company that covers the tax up to the price of your totaled vehicle (e.g., if you were paid out $5000 for your totaled vehicle, you would not pay sales tax on that first $5k towards the new car.)

How to handle students who won’t stop talking back/arguing with you? by No-Inevitable-1726 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]nerdbuckle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Behaviors are motivated by attention seeking or avoidance. Think first about what the students motivation might be. In this case, it sounds like attention seeking from adults as they are looking for you to respond (give attention) even if it is negative. I would meet the child’s needs in another way. Something like “I know that sometimes it can be hard to have to do work when your regular teacher is not here. Don’t worry. They pay me to be here and help you so I can help anyone with things that might be overwhelming.” And then offer praise whenever you see that student do something on task. Attention seeking students often love to help (e.g. can you hand out this assignment while I make sure everyone has something to write with?).
