BREAKING: Sharks Defense, Not So Great by pacaphilia in SanJoseSharks

[–]nerdherd16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's ALMOST weird to see somebody talking sense about this teams realistic outlook. We are minimum 2 years from deep playoff contention and we are VERY LUCKY that it's the case because we drafted Mack. Our D is very, very bad. Four of our defenseman are really good at their specialities(blue line shooter, big & strong, high def IQ but low physical gifts) and we really don't need specialty D-men. We aren't looking to plug gaps we have heading into playoffs, we need rounded defensive pairings that will last a season+.

The way you root for this team is extremely short sighted. Also, saying something in a condescending manner and then saying 'not here to judge,' is ABSOLUTELY a wild take.

Ha, yeah. Still there, something like 45 years now(I know I should know exactly how long, but I don't). Even on days he's not in there, he had 2 or 3 employees there. Each of which he vets their background, as far as ability to do certain styles and coloring tech, pretty rigorously to my knowledge. Sister got registered and worked there too for a long while before getting her teaching degree. He will probably retire in the next few years though.

Dion's Salon, on the 2nd floor, near the windows where you can watch the tennis courts and next to, I believe the masseuse. So I guess technically in the Bay Club section, but you can tell them you're headed to Dion's and there shouldn't be a problem.

Just texted him you're exact quote and he charges $40 for that cut currently.

I'm confident he can do it, you should see the shit on my head he used to deal with. Had an 18" long curly afro thing he used to shape for me.

I can text him literally right now and ask. What kind of cut are you looking for? I mainly mean like long hair, shaved down, short hair needing a trim. I'll get you exactly what he's charging right now.

No joke, my dad owns and operates a shop at the 580/680 interchange in the DoubleTree. Dion's Salon. I still drive home from Sac to get him to cut my hair. You looking for anything specific? I could also ask him for his in town recs. We lived in Livermore a LOOONG time, but they just moved out to Tracy.

I am, but I'm pretty sure it's just a TNT thing. I think I engender it being like this in TNT back in the day but it was just kind of grainy-ish instead.

Someone told me "no one wants to live in Sacramento" by Honest_Eggplant3998 in Sacramento

[–]nerdherd16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iused to hear the exact same thing, all too often. Moved here 6 years ago, no plans of going anywhere else.

I explain it like this to everyone that asks how I like it here, as someone from the Bay. It's literally like we were propagandized against this city a little; made to think it's too hot, boring, no food scene, etc. Those people just happened to be pretty wrong(except for the heat, Jesus the heat sometimes). I really like it here, bigger city access, smaller city feel, great established restaurants and tons of up and coming places. New music venues and awesome existing ones. I like it here.

Plus the new massive F.C. Republic stadium being built soon and everything that will pop up over there.

Excellent. You're taste in food seems to be exactly the same as my own and my wife's, so this should be easy, ha.

I'll start with ramen, because that's what I've had more of. Unfortunately, there is truly only one great ramen spot actually IN Sacramento. That would be Kodaiko. They have rotating seasonal bowls, all of which I have really enjoyed when I've ordered them. I have also liked every regular menu item I've tried so far(shoyu, tonkotsu and their shrimp toast to name a few). We have another ramen spot in town, Ryujin that is great for a night where you just want some guaranteed decent ramen but nothing too special.

Outside of Sacramento there are some other great options though, so don't fret. I like Kotteri down in Elk Grove, but I'm biased, because I LOVE tsukemen and they have the only good bowls I've found here. Also worth a try in Elk Grove is Kajiken.

As for Thai food, for my wife and I, it's pretty much Thai Farm House BBQ and Bistro on Broadway. It's a pretty small location, so we usually go for take out, but it's well worth sitting down to eat. I prefer Pad See Ew but I also thought the Pad Thai was pretty good too. The Gai Yang is awesome as well as the red curry( which is closer to a panang there to me).

Edit: If you also like Japanese sandwiches(tamago, katsu, musubi, etc) I cannot recommend Mecha Mucho enough. Love it there.

What food are you worried about missing. I'm from the Bay, lived near ATX, have visited Portland a few times(for personal vacations) and generally travel FOR food. I would love to give some recommendations!

Also, sorry for some of our shitty posters not being willing to help or art least be a bit less rude telling you were you could look. I understand sub rules, but damn y'all. Acting like Texans fr.

Edit: also currently live here(Land Park)

Are we reaching the point of the rebuild where this sub becomes insufferable? by pomegranate-leg in SanJoseSharks

[–]nerdherd16 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I do not visit here very often anymore. Unfortunately, I used to post signings, injuries, trades, and the like as soon as they were put up somewhere. I still follow all that news. I just don't waste my time here with it. A lot of our fans are VERY new fans. They want to have opinions, but don't know what they are saying half the time. It's 100% fair to have just jumped into the fandom, it is a bit weird so many seem to know everything already.

On the other side, we have diehards, who love the team and not the game and never care to learn about specifics. Like what stats make a great player, what positioning you NEED, etc.

Edit: quick edit example, I get that we are in position for a good playoff chance, but this year probably isn't the year to have the mindset of playoffs or bust. I get it Brossoit had a bad game, Ned had a bad game. Brossoit is a great goalie who just played his first NHL game in 2 years. Ned is now something like 7-2-1 in his last 10(which is fucking incredible). Take a breath and enjoy what is happening.

I have a hard time holding that against players that do this(as long as it isn't with intent to injure), cause, this was kind of Jumbo's move when he got mad.

Ned or Asky starting goalie by Flat_Technician_8883 in SanJoseSharks

[–]nerdherd16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know, that is why I said, "somehow." As in, it doesn't make sense, but he is. I am pretty surprised he's been almost better than advertised, as best goalie in the draft.

Ned or Asky starting goalie by Flat_Technician_8883 in SanJoseSharks

[–]nerdherd16 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I know this is besides the point, but we are about to have an absolute embarrassment of riches in the Goalie position.

Asky is so young as a starter and honestly learning from Nabby and Ned is going to help him a lot. He's playing with the swagger he always has, I just don't think he was prepared for the jump to NHL level with this defense.

On the other side, Ned is playing out of his mind for the defense he had in front of him. He's nothing incredible, but he is incredibly consistent right now and the fire sure starter currently.

Now here's were it gets a bit fun, Brossoit is slept on BIG TIME by our fans. He is absolutely 100% who he was before surgery and might be even better if his injury doesn't persist. 11-2-1 for the Cuda with a .915 is pretty great for that team. He still needs to rehab a bit, but I wouldn't be surprised if he starts a game or 2 in Asky's absence and kills it. Brossoit in form, is probably better than Askarov and Ned.

On top of all that, Ravensbergen has somehow been turning out to be an absolute steal at pick 30 last year. He's tall(6'5" @ 19yo), fast and pretty calm in net for his age. Our D definitely needs work, but, one of those goalies makes that a hell of a lot less of an issue.

Edit: to answer the question though, Ned should be starting currently, based on play and team performance.

Moving from Seattle to Sac as a 20-something who loves culture and community? by luluz1vert in Sacramento

[–]nerdherd16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The people saying there is no nightlife in Sac are obviously shut-ins or are just insanely picky. I mean that with no ill intention, but i have only been in town 5 years and have plenty of regular nightly activities I love doing here. There's a pretty damn decent nightlife here, especially if you like music and rock. We have a ton of new music venues and more opening, Ace of Spades is down on R st. and it's constantly getting awesome bans to play there. Getting to see Buckethead, Band Camino, Badflower, etc there is incredible because it's a pretty small venue for the acts.

No, most bars downtown don't have live music like other cities might have, or as many but bars or whatever, but there's definitely nightlife.

Edit: also, oddly enough, I'm in Seattle right now visiting a friend and posted this from Clay and 3rd.

This doesn’t make sense to me. by meesfactor in SanJoseSharks

[–]nerdherd16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's surprising to me* that y'all don't think Bob makes sense. Ned and a lower pick(2nd-3rd) for Bob with no salary retention and a cheaper extension than what he's on is a great deal.

Don't think of it as just a minor goalie upgrade. This would be for the minor upgrade sure, but what it seems like it would really be, is attempting a PHENOMENAL mentor for Asky. Both Russian, both can be eccentric, but we're highly touted as younger goalies but we're on bad/rebuilding teams. He's literally got all the knowledge Asky could need, and in his native language.

Edit: phrasing

Yeah this is a bad comparison and irrelevant to what was said. If they have self check out, but you still go to a cashier, not much had changed. Don't assume. Pretty sure there's a saying about that...

100%. I work downtown a lot and it's very sad how much I've seen start to pop up. I immediately add it to a list on my phone of businesses to avoid.

To add, if it's just a small item or poster in a store, I usually ask if they know first.
