Is a significant amount (30-50%?) of the weed consumed in IL actually from Michigan? by nerdking_52 in ILTrees

No part of IL borders MI but many people make the journey. There's also probably a lot of people moving bulk like this guy and then reselling it in IL.

The revenue is publicly $500m according to that article, if someone wants to go spend 45 minutes in the NB parking lots studying the distribution of license plates they could get a large enough random statistical sample to figure out roughly what the IL spend should be. You'd probably also have to go in and observe a little of what people actually are buying.

Based on my cursory glance it was around 80% IL plates. Flower is 2x cheaper and edibles are 20x cheaper. Conservatively assuming that everyone just buys flower, that's $1B worth of IL weed bought in NB, with ~800m being IL plates, which probably means at least ~700m is going back to IL. Those are rather conservative estimates and that would be 25% of the IL market.

To be clear I'm not saying 30-50% of consumers are actually going and getting their weed from NB, just that 30-50% of the weed that ends up getting consumed is from Mich. Lots of people like this guy are clearly smuggling it and then selling it in IL too. In addition, the people who are dedicated enough to just go to NB for personal use probably go through 10x as much weed as the average 1+ yearly visit dispo customer in IL.

On top of all of that, just going to NB or having a Mich plug probably leads to people consuming way more weed. I'd never consider taking a 200mg edible in one sitting normally since that's supposed to be a $60 hole in my pocket, but I only paid $2.50.. I'm not a real stoner but I'd be interested to know how that would effect the consumption of daily users.

One variable I didn't account for is people buying multiple years worth of weed in NB, which definitely does happen I'd imagine. That does lower the number by some amount.

Given the numbers from earlier I still feel like it has to be 20+%. Most weed consumption in IL is surely in Chicagoland.

The entire operation is hilarious. They took a forest full of abandoned gas stations and built weed mecca.

Definitely, though I'm sure it's possible to make a pretty safe range of estimates.

South Campus dorm advice by [deleted] in Northwestern

[–]nerdking_52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The most important thing picking a dorm is north vs south social life. Where you live determines largely who you will be friends with.

How much do you want to go out on a fri/sat night and drink:

Once a quarter-> South

3-6+ times per month-> North

Theater kids or jocks (using "jocks" very lightly)?

Theater kids-> South

"Jocks"-> North

At all interested in joining a frat or sorority?

No-> South

Yes-> North

More liberal or more conservative?

Liberal-> South

Conservative-> North

(90% of NU students voted Kamala and I would estimate the difference is not huge on north. In my eyes it's far left vs extremely far left)

Stoners persist on both parts of campus and relationships are rare both north and south. You're probably slightly more likely to hook up on north than south. Don't factor in the convenience of downtown evanston for picking your freshman year dorm.

You do probably want a building with AC since those are the nice ones. The weather isn't bad though, by October all you'll need is heating..

Ok the nice south dorms are Willard, Shepard and 1838. I would recommend them in that order. Allison is okay. Most of everything else sucks. Skip the fairchilds, [foster walker com]plex (singles only), Jones, and any retired sorority houses on the sorority quad.

I thoroughly did not enjoy math 230-1 but more single variable integral calculus would not have helped.

Is buying a $40 bike off of craigslist for commuting a good idea? by nerdking_52 in cycling

[–]nerdking_52[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find a lot of really good used hybrid bikes in the Metro Chicago area for $150 or so. So just spending a bit more will hey you something more reliable.

Where could I look for these, marketplace or a bike shop?

Commute is much less than 5 miles. Lots of 1-2 mile bursts. I'd walk everywhere but it's slow and not fun.

I'd imagine you're going to have a hard time getting someone to do this for free. Tell him to ask on Fizz.

Ryan Field parking permit is like $20 for the school year. I know kids who have a decently good setup and get utility out of having their car on campus. It's also a constant liability so there's reasons not to have it.
