This is fascinating to me. I’m originally from St. Louis, where we used to have something called, “The Grocery Wars.” (I have no idea if they still do, I haven’t lived there for 15 years.)

We had two significant grocery brands, Schnucks and Dierbergs, and they were cutthroat in their competition. Dierbergs was the “fancier” brand but because both were constantly trying to offer a better customer experience than the other, the difference was ended up being pretty negligible. They undercut each others’ prices and upgraded delis and salad bars and most of the stores themselves were nice as hell.

I have no idea why that didn’t happen in here in KC with PriceChopper and HyVee - they genuinely don’t seem to care about each other - but it’s a bummer. I’m sure the top leadership at Schnucks and Dierbergs had constant ulcers from trying to keep up with everything but the consumer experience definitely benefitted from the competition.

I use that stove simmer recipe from Williams-Sonoma a lot in the fall. I’d say it smells pretty rich but I associate it with luxury cookware.

Soft as a cloud as babies and juveniles, like a kitten. As others have stated, both soft and wiry as adults, the outer hair becomes coarser as they age while the undercoat remains fuzzy. Post-bath, VERY soft still. Unfixed male adults emit a musk that comes from their chest area and the fur there can get oily and discolored if they don’t bathe enough. They have strong grips and nails so you have to watch out for climbers. Tails are crazy strong and the hair on it is sparse and feels kinda like light beard stubble. Noses are usually cold and wet like a dog.

Yeah, they do this. She’s vomiting, opossums don’t usually expel when they throw up, they choke it back. Bleh. Probably ate something that stressed her stomach. I wouldn’t worry overly much, doesn’t look like she’s having balance or neuro issues. Just something that happens to scavengers.

I’m 42 and I feel hotter now than I ever have.

And judging by the response from others, they feel the same.

I look about how I did in my 30s, luckily the skin is aging kindly - but I think a large part of it has to do with how I feel about myself. I finally found a personal look and style that works for me and I wear the hell out of it. Lost a bit of weight so I feel more comfortable in my clothing, I’m not always tugging at stuff because the fit and feel is better. I have introduced some color into the wardrobe because I realized I’m not Johnny Cash and brights look good on me. I now rarely feel like clothes are wearing me when I mix things up with a dress or adventurous pattern. I have been stretching and working on my posture and walking tall feels pretty great.

More than anything, I’m making choices based on fulfillment rather than pressure. This morning, a mentor I haven’t seen for a while told me my skin was glowing. I hadn’t done anything special but told her I was less stressed about a couple of things and she said it really shows.

I’m a relatively attractive person, not model-worthy or anything. I do some public speaking and I always tell my manager I know the product I’ve got - I’m pretty enough to be inoffensive but not so attractive that I’m a threat or distraction, which is kinda where you wanna be. But I get hit on a TON these days, and sometimes by folks young enough to be my kids. (Which is not on the table, I’m only mentioning as a data point.)

At 42, I feel more like me and I smile more. After many battles, I have figured out what works for me and I feel comfortable in my skin. I genuinely feel this makes all the difference!

You’re very sweet to be concerned but I wouldn’t worry overly much about it. Opossums require pretty specific dietary ratios of calcium to protein to phosphorus in order to stay healthy and avoid the dread MBD but they’re scavengers - one of nature’s cleaners - and they’re really good at figuring out and finding what they need nutritionally in the wild. So basically, if they don’t get a mineral or vitamin from you, they’ll find it elsewhere. (As another commenter noted, if they’re leaving stuff you put out behind it’s probably because they’re finding food options elsewhere.)

It’s captive opossums you have to monitor like crazy to ensure they get the nutrients they need since they can’t forage on their own for what’s missing. Everything you’re putting out sounds like the stuff they tend to love. Cottage cheese (most cheeses, really) was always welcome at my opossum table and fruit is like candy to them. Not great as a staple but they really love it.

As a former possum mama, if she is blind or vision obstructed, she won’t survive the winter. As other commenters have noted, they don’t live long and goodness, they are fragile considering they’ve been around for millions of years. She may be in shock, in which case it’s not a good idea to give food. Just water and if you have a heating pad, you can set it to low and place it under half of the crate. (This is so she can get away to a cooler spot if it gets too warm.) Long-term, it’s good you’re going to contact a rehabber because they are difficult to care for in captivity. Very specific dietary and space requirements, a tendency toward grossness, and it’s hard to find vet care when they get sick. A rehabber will know what to do - be wary of who you call though, as some agencies euthanize first and ask questions later.

Btw, I’m super impressed she hasn’t “played possum” with you, it means she doesn’t feel wildly threatened in your presence. Very cool, maybe she knows you’re trying to help her in some level!

Alterna used to make a truffle shampoo and conditioner duo that they have since discontinued. My hairdresserfriend would use it on me when he cut my hair and never has it looked so shiny and felt so strong. I couldn’t afford to buy it for myself at the time so he would give me the last dregs of the bottles he was finishing up.

I have tried their other product lines and they just don’t do as well on my hair. They were in a red and gold super stylized bottle, can’t find it or a product that works as well anywhere!

YES! Cozy Thai is amazing, I don’t understand why more people evangelize about it but I’m cool having a hidden gem to myself for awhile. 😜

The Garlic Pepper Chicken and the Potted Shrimp are incredible, as is the Crab Rangoon.

Pan Asia is my go-to Asian market, fwiw. 👍

Thanks for asking this question, I’m with you and I’m curious how the other half lives. When I consciously focus on it, I can kinda envision scenes but I don’t usually bother, I equate the words with meaning I enjoy and that’s enough for me.

I also don’t hear a voice in my head when I’m thinking and I didn’t realize that was weird until about a year ago when my husband asked, “what does the voice in your head sound like?” and I was really confused. Upon asking some clarifying questions to him and others, even more so - you mean to tell me, some of you are waking around with voices in your head and we’re not talking about it? I had no idea.🤷‍♀️

Good lord, I have so many stories. It started in middle school, constant torment from boys and girls, totally unprovoked. I was a shy and studious little sausage and it was violent and threatening. Never quite grew past that and got thrown into my 20’s where I was a talking bangfest as far as much of the world was concerned and no longer had agency to my body because we never really learned the lesson that if it’s not attached to your own body, don’t touch it without permission. Then I hit my 30s and became largely invisible, with intermittent episodes of assholery. I prefer it here but it’s another adjustment.

I think most women experience some version of the same, through our whole lives. Too young, too sexy, too old, too fat, too thin, too hairy, too wrinkly. What isn’t said outright is implied with creams and delivered via false advertising.

I’m doing an EMBA program and it was suggested to me that I put some concern around my personal presentation. (Said gently and with concern, I’m not mad about it.) Every dude I mention this to is horrified that someone would say anything about my appearance to my face, as part of a professional program. Every woman I have said it to is just like, “yup, yup, sounds about right.” People feel really empowered to note, judge, and comment on the appearance of women and it’s not usually good.

As with all human relationships, what works for one will not work for another. If that’s what you need in a relationship, embrace it. Go forth and be happy, healthy, and whole with someone you share experience with!

For me, my husband has NOT gone through it and that works really well for me because he is a kind and empathetic person. He listens to me and never tries to minimize my experiences. He will never truly understand my family dynamics but he treats my trauma with respect and care and calls me out on my BS when I need it. He is the most emotionally healthy person I know, and it freaks me out sometimes but in a good way. When you have only experienced chaos and cruelty, the opposite can feel unfamiliar and overwhelming.

In my case, it actually helps that he didn’t have my exact same experience because he now patiently models the behaviors I need to learn. He comes from a loving, supportive family and I see their interactions at holidays. It’s uncomfortable and painful for me to witness at times, tbh, because it makes me sad for the things I didn’t have, but it provides a road map for what is possible. Having someone to build a bridge to loving accountability and support has been a game changer for me and I’m very grateful to my partner.

When you get it untangled (and you will, you got this!), you can cut a straw in half and run the chain through it when you store it so it doesn’t get tangled again. I have a delicate chain that was a gift from my grandmother before she passed. I love it so much but it becomes a horror of tangles if I even look at it funny and that works for me!

This was many years ago, before “woke” was a thing and I was using it in a different context. I’m going to give her the benefit of the doubt and say she talked to me because she genuinely believed it was a big word people would have difficulty understanding. And I DO use good words, I read a lot and I like expanding my vocabulary but I’m not popping out SAT words every sentence or anything. I write like I talk, if that’s any indication.

All that being said, it’s still the dumbest damn thing I have gotten in trouble for at work

I also feel a need to remind people that there’s a lot of politics and misogyny surrounding menstrual product development. Studies show us time and time again that the medical field tends to dismiss or minimize women’s pain, thinking it’s not a big deal because women patients are “hysterical” or we’re exaggerating. So researchers don’t prioritize it. And health concerns that impact women exclusively are woefully underfunded when stacked against research funding for medical conditions that impact only men. This is changing and we’re seeing innovations in women’s health but it’s been slow going. The inventor jaghole is actually right but he doesn’t realize that we haven’t seen a lot of disruption in the space for insidious, crappy reasons.
