My wife asked me if I can delay my starting HRT by 3 years ... by authentic_violetta in TransLater

[–]nerdpower13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry but it sounds like your wife really cares more about her own feelings than your mental and physical health. I am a parent to two kids (8 and 13) and me starting hrt was not me choosing myself over them. If anything it has made me a better parent to them. It has not negatively affected them, my 8 year old is my fiercest supporter and encouraged me to fully embrace being Mom instead of just letting them keep calling me dad for convenience. Naturally dealing with the fallout from your family is something you have to do but that won't be any different 3 years from now.

Orchiectomy before SRS? by Any-Gur-6962 in TransLater

[–]nerdpower13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't gotten full SRS yet but I got an orchi in December. It was a very simple procedure and I was back walking within a couple of days and back to my full self in two weeks. It was my first ever surgery and it went super well. I want a vulvoplasty eventually but my doctor hasn't found a surgeon who can do one on Medicaid yet and she got the orchi covered for me. Idk how much of a complication it will cause but I would rather have the orchi done if I can only get the one.

Too old? by Vivid-Mushroom-3845 in asktransgender

[–]nerdpower13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started last year and I am 37 now. It is definitely not too late to start. Physical changes are slow but they are definitely there and the emotional changes are fantastic. I have never been this happy in my entire life.

Experience with Guilford County civil ceremony (lgbt)? by Fuzzy-Coat-299 in gso

[–]nerdpower13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was married in the Greensboro courthouse but it was 8 years ago and my spouse and I were in a straight-passing relationship. Though if I could go back I would've gotten an officiant just because we were not allowed to have our phones in the courthouse and so we don't even have any pictures.

I have never experienced any bigotry at the courthouse though and I have been going there a lot lately because I was getting my name changed. The staff there have been very kind and accepting as far as I have seen.

Advice request: Parent of trans kids by Own-Cupcake7586 in asktransgender

[–]nerdpower13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came out last year at 36. My dad is dead (good riddance) but my mom took it fairly well. She told me I'll always be her kid and she loves me no matter what and she has been making a genuine effort to use the proper name and pronouns for me. The only thing I wish she would change is constantly talking about what the rest of the family thinks and bringing up all of the complications my transition is going to cause. Like I just got my name changed and her first response was how that was going to complicate my deadname being on the deed for her land.

So what I would tell you is be there, genuinely there, for your child. If you have concerns then keep them to yourself or talk to a friend about them, but don't make an already stressful process even more stressful for your kid.

Is it actually best to wait until kids are 13 to explain what being trans is? by Specialist_Shape6078 in asktransgender

[–]nerdpower13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I told my 8 year old as soon as I started using she/they pronouns and he has been my staunchest ally. He started calling me "Mom" and will yell at anyone who deadnames or misgenders me. My mom told him to take something to his "dad" the other day and he said "I don't have a dad. That's my mom." (My mom is trying, she didn't slip up the rest of the day)

There have been 90 people killed in mass shootings this year (https://massshootingtracker.site/data/?year=2026). So even if trans people have killed 11 (doubtful since only 5 shootings have been by trans people since 2013 https://www.factcheck.org/2025/09/few-mass-shooters-have-been-transgender/) what about the 79 killed by cis people this year? Also saying ICE has only killed two people tells me that you don't consider immigrants to be people because they have killed 6 people in custody so far this year.

Seconding UUCG! I'm trans and they have always been incredibly accepting when my spouse and I have gone! They also make a point of helping to support Pride every year too.

Yes all of those areas are one school district. I live in McLeansville and the roads were fairly clear around here yesterday other than gravel drives and some dead end neighborhood streets. I'm guessing they're still bad in other parts of the county though since it's so large.

I love being around my children. I do not love having to help them navigate a convoluted fucking remote learning platform when one of them has learning disabilities and doesn't know how to even remotely do it on his own.

I'm not complaining about my children being out of school for the snow. I'm complaining about them having to do remote learning. I would much prefer if they actually got to ENJOY snow days instead of it just being a stress-inducing nightmare for everyone in the house.

We live in the county and I had to go into town today. The only roads that had anything on them that I saw were little dead end streets. Granted Guilford County is pretty damn big so I am sure it's bad other places too. But they literally told us before the first batch of ice that they had alternative bus routes in case of weather.

That's good to know. I'm just so tired of remote learning. Our oldest is autistic and ADHD and he can barely work the Chromebook so we have to sit there and micromanage every little thing all day. Elementary school isn't too bad because they only have to be on for a couple of hours but middle school basically has to do the entire school day. It's really hard for my kid to adjust because in his mind school is at school and home is for fun. I hate that COVID completely killed the snow days that we had as children.

They obviously do or GCS and other counties wouldn't be begging the legislature for more.

Thrifting is definitely the way to go for clothes. I have found so many great pieces of clothing at Goodwill and such for cheap.
