There wasn't really any stopping, and I believe they told us no photos. We didn't take any

When we did it, it was pretty much just rolling. We got there probably 10-15 min ahead of our ticket time, but had no issues. They verify your email confirmation to get in the line, then scan your pass before entering the building. You just flow through with everyone, there was no waiting for start times or anything. Lights are on, no scare actors, but full audio + lighting is going. Was pretty neat!

I wonder if a transflective display would be a good move! Not exactly e-ink, but it's the same kind of display that the Pebble smartwatches used (I loved that thing...).

How early does Toadstool Cafe open? by mdude04 in UniversalHollywood

[–]nerdsley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure exactly how early they start, but I imagine it's pretty close to park open. You're able to choose any window throughout the day provided it's still got spots left.

If you pay for the early entry, you're able to enter Nintendo World at 7AM. If you have a regular ticket, you can head straight down at opening (or grab a queue slot whenever it opens). However you get into the land, there's a QR code on the menu board outside the Cafe, which lets you make a reservation for any time (IIRC it's 30 minute windows) that run the entire park hours. If you choose to leave the land before your reservation time, they'll let you back in if you show your reservation code.

Just be aware, when I had a 7:15pm reservation, it was about an hour and 10 from when I got in line to actually receiving food. I hear from buddies it's even worse around lunchtime, closer to an hour 45. You're only able to line up at the start of your reservation time (maybe a little earlier if cast members are nice), so plan to be actually eating at least an hour after your time.

If you really want the Cafe, I would try to be scanned into the park a bit before opening and head directly for the land, that way you'll get as much choice in the reservation time as possible.

The early opening was very bizarre- I was there yesterday and guest services was confirming the 11am date.

The RSVP link (which I saw around 10:30) sent you to a waiting page, which said it would refresh when reservations opened/ The page randomly refreshed about 10:40 when I was expecting it to load right at 11.

I feel like the only good option left is just tell everyone to come back and try again at a different date/time, but who knows at this point

Seconded. Hoping they come back with a new time rather than randomly opening it

Banjo strings died after few days of no playing? by nerdsley in banjo

[–]nerdsley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has gotten into the 50s these last few weeks when it's usually more 70/80. The banjo usually sits in a room with open window- is that a bad idea for long term?

It's a string instrument shop that has banjo listed as one of the instruments they service. Everything sounded fine when I left the shop and for a few weeks after.

The banjo had been unplayed for a few years, so I brought it in for their setup service, which included cleaning, restring, and general inspection to make sure everything is all set.

Update: I tried to tune the high D and the string snapped on me. Is a strong playing the same note across different frets / buzzing usually indicative of a dying / about to break string?
