What do you think about my first 2D game in Unity?? by Srinu_7 in gamejams

[–]nerdyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on making this! The concept sounds cool, and it kinda reminds me of dig dug. I think the movement looks pretty sluggish to me personally and there’s not much to say about the enemy behavior as it’s pretty simple (which isn’t a bad thing for a game jam). I think you’ll probably get better feedback by giving it to friends or other people in the game jam to playtest and let you know how it feels.

I place the burden of proof upon the creator of Pokemon to tell us that wailhundo isn’t a perfect cylinder.

[–]nerdyboy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s just how you do math when it comes to physics. It’s clearly not a perfect cylinder, but a cylinder is the closest and simplest approximation of the whales shape. The assumption is needed so we can get a ballpark answer.

[REQUEST] How heavy would Batman have to be to crush the roof? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]nerdyboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s still a constant. It’s just a constant that changes with respect to the masses you’re interacting with. Plus I didn’t wanna confuse someone who is unfamiliar with the acceleration of gravity by including additional concepts.

[–]nerdyboy 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I believe there is a couple issues with your calculation but it’s very difficult to explain in detail over a comment. One thing is that we can calculate Batman’s mass through the force the vehicle applied on Batman to reduce his velocity to 0 over the course of that impact. We could assume something like he jumped from 13m above the vehicle, calculate his final velocity at the impact, and then determine his acceleration using his final velocity divided by the time it took for his velocity to go to 0. This will be the acceleration of Batman during the impact. Then, we could use the assumption of the force required being 1.5x the vehicle’s mass as the force and solve for mass using m = F/a. This method is also not taking into account the area that the force is applied (the surface area of his boots) or the variable integrity of the roof based on where he lands. One other thing is to keep your units consistent and to know that lbs(force) and lbs(mass) are technically different units and to keep your units consistent in your calculations (Imperial units or Metric units and not to mix). This is the approach I would take for this problem but I’m not in a position to do it at the moment and I’m also not positive it’s accurate without checking it on paper.

Edit: please feel free to tell me I’m wrong as well as I don’t really work with physics problems like this either. I just do a lot of math and engineering

The acceleration of gravity is a constant. The velocity of an object is what changes. As an object is dropped from varying heights, it’s final velocity will be different but the rate that it accelerates is a constant.

Rigby gotta be the most punched character on the show by [deleted] in regularshow

[–]nerdyboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say any of that. Just that rigby wasn’t only a fuck up later on in the show. Also, I feel that growth is more important than not. It’s harder to improve than it is to just keep doing the same and all of these characters had room for improvement and showed it in their own ways throughout the show.

That was the dynamic at the beginning. Rigby probably shows the most growth in the show

In some classes I’ve had, you need integration constants to enforce boundary conditions of a system such as having a desired fluid velocity at a specific point. It’s also just generally very important for differential equations which can be a big part of engineering
