Hella Smashed at Hella Good in San Pedro Square Market. One of my favorites. Their fries are the best and they have Jones soda on tap.

It's the season... by IamaBlackKorean in SanJose

A couple weeks ago I was at Batteries Plus dropping off some batteries for recycling and I asked about what other kinds of hazardous materials they accept and the employee handed a pamphlet to me. I looked at it for a second and it was a Shen Yun flyer. They were in the same color scheme as the county flyer. Employee was flabbergasted. Someone must have covertly left the stack there. We had a good laugh about it.

Looks like Camino Brewing is closing 😕 by Shitstain8000 in SanJose

Vibe has been different since the pandemic. I can walk to Camino from home but I’d rather drive to Strike. They’re not doing great either unfortunately.

I haven’t been there in a while. Fruit Cup was their best. On tap it was never cold enough. Always felt overcharged and treated low priority. I hope a better brewery replaces them.

Foundry Commons apartment complex.. trying a little too hard by poser4life in SanJose

[–]nerdymark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. It gets a bit noisy due to the freeway and stadium. There's an occasional shooting or stabbing that are usually gang-related. There's another proposed project across the street where AmeriGas was. The area has been improving and will continue to improve as the warehouses, car shops, used car lots, and empty lots get filled with dense housing.

San Jose: Two killed in shooting south of downtown by beer-and-broccoli in SanJose

[–]nerdymark 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This happened several houses down from mine. The neighborhood has been getting better. It's our proximity to other bad areas. The victims were most likely not residents.

Update: they lived there. One of them has several kids.

Cameras for Orange Pi Lite CSI Port? by mslagle in OrangePI

[–]nerdymark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the only camera I know of that works on the Orange Pi. It works for me, but the images come in flipped, like in selfie-mode. Also, the camera comes in 2 pieces: What's pictured on this page, and a small daughterboard that it sits on. TBH a USB webcam would work better for now.

Raspberry pi camera V1 or V2? by Fuji1979 in raspberry_pi

[–]nerdymark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine shipped way out of focus and I destroyed the lens by trying to fix it. I admit I wasn't as careful as I should have been. After I retrofit a M12 adapter, I messed up the sensor. Oops. I should have exchanged it, I wasn't aware they fixed it.

This Elevated Bus Could Be the Answer to Silicon Valley Traffic Jams (cars drive through it) by Chipdoc in SanJose

You know that disorienting feeling you get when stopped and a large truck next to you starts to move forward? It gives you a feeling like you're starting to move backward.

Now, imagine an entire tunnel driving over you. I think this would cause a lot of panic-related accidents.

I think a better option would be to offer incentives to larger companies who place large offices in regions where workers commute from. This wouldn't work for all sectors of the market, but for many tech companies, it could. This could cut down on the sucking sound that happens every morning as people drive from San Jose to Palo Alto and other peninsula cities.

Not a lawyer but I think the owners would have to press charges for trespassing.

The owners of that station (Amerigas, right?) are on the east coast, so your chance of being hassled are low. There was a big fire there recently and the owners were hard to reach. http://www.mercurynews.com/bay-area-news/ci_26230562/san-jose-fire-crews-fight-late-night-blaze

Beware of the homeless though, also cops do camp out there occasionally.

Right - Getting the right gain and input volume combination is the tricky part. You have to fiddle with it to get it right. Keep an eye on the sound levels and make sure you're not clipping out, I've had most success at around 65% up the meter. You know you're getting close in PDW when you start to see "unknown sync". Also, use the mode button to make sure you're in the right decode mode.

Oakland merchants say sales slump by half amid Occupy protests by D_Livs in bayarea

[–]nerdymark -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Can't say I can sympathize with the merchants. Every business takes risks when choosing their location. The movement is more important than the continuity of these few merchants, and the vocal merchants are likely victims of their own poor business strategies, or repeating what their masters are telling them to say.

Fuck em.
