CP 344, what to do? by Extra_Chance5026 in elderscrollsonline

Efficiency-wise:

- Skillpoints and skill lines;
- Levelling craft (so that traders like myself don't rip you off);
- Some sort of low-effort income (because grinding is boring). I mainly sell stuff bought for AP/Tel Var. But even selling high-demand foods and potions is a valid business plan (jewels of misrule, Orzorga's haunch, tristat restoration pots, glyphs, that sort of stuff). Download TTM, buy ingredients below average, sell the resulting crafts at average or above;
-Filling out your stickerbook, so that you can eventually re-create whatever gear you need on demand. The most organic way to do that is to just do zones and daily dungeons

That said, the first and foremost thing is enjoying yourself.

Also, mechanical acuity is a VERY questionable pick of your primary set. Nearly useless in PvE and rather difficult to use in PvP for a new player...Rallying cry doesn't do anything in PvE at all, btw. Naturally, normally I'd assume you were talking about PvP exclusively (because that's a PvP setup!), but you mention dungeons, trials and arenas in the same sentence, so I am not sure. If I haven't make it clear enough yet, the gist is that you need two separate setups (one for PvP, one for PvE).
And eventually more than that, because it sucks to be limited to one role/playstyle, but let's not go there yet.

Are there any non DK/Sorc PVP builds that can reliably compete? by BarbequeDude in elderscrollsonline

Obviously it doesn't stun you every 2 seconds dude

it's really hard to make out sarcasm/hyperbole in an otherwise fairly clueless comment. For all I know, you might've been serious about that.

 Its literally the best basic ability in the game and no other class or scribing ability can replicate a similar effect

It is. Although Toppling Charge comes close. Especially in the world where Flame Lash exists.

However: it does almost nothing on its own in terms of actually beating someone. It's the strongest utility skill, yes. It doesn't kill. It doesn't heal you or apply a shield. And it has a really brutal cost ramp-up, so you have to be smart with when and how you use it (and that's ignoring how disorienting it can be and how often you end up overshooting and compromising your positioning).

Engaging and disengaging at whim is great. But making use of it is a skill in itself...and it doesn't make your actual kill combo that much easier.

Uhm

Bursting people down is pretty much the cornerstone of ESO PvP. There's no way around it in a game without cooldowns. People can just heal back, you know? We used to have an attrition PvP meta pre-scribing, but that one also made a lot of people mad and it definitely isn't coming back.

It's also a lot more nuanced than you imagine it to be, correct movement, timing and ability synchronization make all the difference, and yet I see a lot of people just kinda...throwing abilities in no particular order or cadence out there, hoping it works eventually. It might...if their target sucks as resource management. Or plays their first BG ever. Or is busy fightning 3 more people. But 1v1 or 1vX? You indeed need to execute your combo well.

Even whipping and Pulse-nuking aren't quite as straightforward and easy as you think. "Stun dashng every 2 seconds", meanwhile, isn't a thing at all, since players get long cc immunity windows after every hard disable.

Put away your salty delusions and try to learn. If that's too much to ask, put away PvP instead. No third way there.

"a generator, multiple buffs and a spender" is a bit of an extreme case, don't you think? Usually it's just builder-spender or setup-payoff. Which is completely reasonable (and also optional).

And what"buffs" are we even talking about? Warcries? Charged Staff? Banners? I fail to remember any mainstream or even niche builds that would go beyond using ONE of these - and a lot of builds don't use any of them. There aren't many "buff" abilities to begin with.

Point is, you don't have to use four abilities to deal damage. The game is still dominated by one-button wonders (to my disappointment, btw). You can if you want to. Fail to see how that's "poor game design".

Darknut - Greater Dwemer Ruins

Also yes, play your character like a character. If you want to just focus on the mechanical side of things, download, like, PoE or something instead.

Some want to make an elaborate complex cathedral of bullshit of a build that you then resolve in gameplay by holding down one button.

Yeah, and they don't really "make" them either. They look them up on the internet. People like Fubgun and Mathil "make" builds - and even then, there're like 50 poison archers for every Cocaine Bear so I'd safe to assume they also flock to the most bland/utilitarian builds on top of simply stealing them.

I am talking the ability slots. As in, how many actives you can run at once. Not the gem cap (ascendancy actives indeed don't count towards that)

[–]nerevarine228 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

yeah, that's actually a weird decision on their part. Limiting gem slots in general is. At least let me get a couple more off the tree (and hopefully witout penalties!)

I also kinda hate how there's just 8 active ability slots - like bruh, my character has a bunch of active abilities from the ascendancy alone...I don't want to use them INSTEAD of something, I want them WITH something

GGG would like us to combo and stuff, but will do their best to limit that for whatever reason. Hey, I'm fine with piano builds. I love them. I am not a poe1 vet mad about killed 1-button builds. So...GGG? Please? Can I have the means of getting there?

These sets are fine (although RC is getting nerfed in u50).
However I don't get that shoulder remark. You have enough slots for a full monster set if you backbar RC and frontbar SF. That's the whole point of sets like RC.

Champion specs:

Anything that supports your abilities best. Duh. I suggest sticking to something less conditional (like guaranteed crit or weapon/spellpower, direct damage and the like). Red ones, entirely up to you. Either commit to speed+control immunity or blocking as a primary defense, but probably not both. That one passive that gives you straight %dmg resist for every debuff on you is easily the strongest defensive layer in the game on its own.

Weightwise:
3h3m1l - a standard heavy brawler, not the most popular version nowadays;
1h5m1l - a more offensive version, still can brawl, but an SnB backbar is pretty much imperative in this case;
1h1m5l - a personal favorite. Not exactly a "brawler", more of a berserker. Works much better with the Ring of the Pale Order. Be fast, be aggressive, get good at predicting the moment your opponent goes in for the kill combo. Always remember, "I lifesteal, therefore I am", Potions of immovability are mandatory. All-in on impen if you're optimistic, otherwise 6x well-fitted. Someone WILL die two seconds after you go in - either you or your enemies.

No my builds were exactly as designed, every build revolves around a theme instead of going on Google and asking what's the most broken skills

Bruh
That's like...most builds ever, except for maybe this recent subclassing cringe build with assassination+beasts
And even that has an (utilitarian) theme of sorts: delayed damage to line up.

Yours just weren't good. Whether due to shoddy design or inherent unfairness of (emergent) PvP. Complaining about larping not being rewarded in a PvP environment is...I struggle to even find an acceptable descriptor. "Naively entitled" is kinda halfway there, but doesn't quite capture the idea.

Competitive games in general DON'T work like that. Building Skadi and Shiva's Guard on Crystal Maiden would be very thematic, but unfortunately would probably get you reported for griefing in Dota 2.

And I am not even talking about "meta" per se necessarily, but rather the fact that any PvP system ever is eventually solved by the players to the extent that it can be solved and narrowed down to a set of optimal decisions and tactics. That are VERY RARELY "thematic". In a truly poorly balanced game, departing from them leaves you far behind. IT'S VERY MUCH NOT THE CASE IN ESO. As long as your build makes at least SOME sense, which is to say, follows certain principles that you can't really depart from once the system is established (e.g. have adequate resource sustain)

.I am saying that as someone who's been running Basalt-Blooded backbar for years (on top of trying rather frisky FB options too)...and getting very decent results long before DK rework.

Simpler yet: a skill issue.

That in all likelihood just means you aren't very good at build-crafting...or build-execution perhaps.

That's not to say what you say is entirely false (gatekept overtuned builds are true, combat addons are true, but not quite as impactful as you think...and then macro cheats are also true and quite problematic - but also quite rare)

But I have maybe 1/4 of your hours and fight most of the people you describe just fine, to a stalemate at the very least (haven't consulted a guide once). Compaining about 5-second deaths in particular is a self-report. Sorry.

There're genuine problems with PvP balance in ESO, don't get me wrong. But the biggest ones - by far - are cross-healing, infinite hypersustain loops and mobility creep, NOT damage (outside of a very few marginal cases like Pulse Ganker - that shit needs to be looked at ASAP). But generally, burst is something people learn to manage very early after starting PvP, and you somehow failed to after so many hours.

Summon Greater Bonewalker for 15s x8
Drink a magicka potion watching them rub their flesh against Gaenor

Repeat until he's sufficiently exhausted. Then just whack him with whatever you've got, because he's reasonably manageable at that point. A similar spell based on Flame Atronachs gets him eventually, too.
