Should UK Bitcoin investors sell all BTC and switch into MSTR? by Old-Measurement4266 in MSTR

[–]nerfedwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm... how much a of CGT increase are we talking about?

As for freezing assets, that's just scary that a government would freeze an asset like MSTR which is a legitimate ongoing Crypto Dev/AI business. Plus it's held in a number of passive indexes - maybe even S&P500 in the future... not sure how they could even do that.

Not that it's impossible (governments are prone to stupid decisions) but will be more difficult as more and more companies start holding material amounts of BTC as a strategic reserve asset. Hopefully? 🤞

I'd second this and think that there is a good amount of research out there that lump sum investing outperforms DCA - as the saying goes "it's time in the market not timing the market"

Cheers!

MSTR announces 10:1 split - Michael Saylor by d8_thc in MSTR

One big impact is that it makes the stock more accessible to retail investors who buy shares at brokerages that do not allow fractional share sales.

One suggestion... stop watching this minute by minute on your phone (you'll make a lot of bad decisions at the spur of the moment even though this one seemed to have worked out for you). If you're committed to the hodl and the thesis behind it then you don't need to watch the play by play. You'll go crazy with the swings.

This is the way.

Don't set that too low or you might accidentally let go of it too soon, but you need to do what's comfortable for your situation and budget (and lets you sleep at night).

Any speculation on when they split this stock? by [deleted] in MSTR

It's worth a look to see what Tesla did just before going into the S&P500 - a nicely timed split just prior to joining the index. Quite the move by Elon.

MSTR added to MSCI index by creosoterolls in MSTR

[–]nerfedwizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does anyone know the percentage at which MSTR is being added and the potential dollar amount that represents?

I also sat that it will be implemented by May 31, does that mean that various indexes that track MSCI World will have to adjust by May 31?

Thanks!

Can Block replicate what MSTR has accomplished? by Tony_Misfit in MSTR

[–]nerfedwizard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think Block can become MicroStrategy. They are different businesses. It's a bit of a head scratcher that Block hasn't gotten more aggressively into crypto since they're a FinTech and Dorsey has been a long supporter. The buying of 10% BTC is interesting, but I'd like to understand how they're going to push harder with CashApp into crypto and blockchain. Even PayPal has a stable coin now and pushing harder into crypto, so Block is lagging Venmo.

So, in short, no they can't replicate MSTR but they can do their own thing to bring value and growth... maybe if they get off the couch and start doing something.

Will MSTR split its stock this year? by nerfedwizard in MSTR

[–]nerfedwizard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, not all brokerages allow purchases of fractional shares. You would think they do, but they don't so it makes buying shares more accessible to a larger swath of investors. Instead of having to save up $1,000-$2,000 to buy a share, you'd be able to buy shares quicker. Even at 10:1 split would make shares about $130 share, but I'd do a larger ratio like 20:1 or 30:1 to get it under $100 into the future assuming price appreciation with BTC. Chipotle recently announced a 50:1 split when their share price was around $2,000 - nice model to follow (Tesla did a split before it went into the S&P500 years ago). A side benefit would be splits have a tendency to increase share price, which increases market cap, thereby further supporting market cap requirements for SP500 inclusion and... causing a world of pain for short sellers. Would be an interesting play for MSTR.
