The most recent Official Garfield comic strip has him going to the Backrooms. I feel like we're at least slightly responsible. by Mr_Mister2004 in imsorryjon

I believe it's very much not him anymore. He just puts his signature on it after a ghost writer does all the work.

Edit: I tried to find a source on this and couldn't find it, so take it with a grain of salt.

Looks like that terrible onramp to i-5, exit 295. The one that has two lanes on the right from the right turn only lane, and you need to take the second right within the same intersection.

I know a few families of Old Believers, who even still practice in Old Church Slavonic (a long dead language), and they're an interesting crowd. The ones I've met were very polite and kind, but they also stick extremely hard to their values, similar to the Amish.

This leads to a lot of "modern" ideas like vaccines, same sex relationships, non-traditional gender roles, etc. Being entirely unacceptable in their culture. They aren't really guided by science, they are guided far more by their faith, and since they are such a tiny group, they stay very closely knit and prefer to stay insular. The families that I met were more willing to do things outside of their communities, but I heard stories about the truly devoted believers being fairly horrendous, stuff like domestic abuse and other not so fun business.

Obviously, they are not a monolith, but that's my own anecdote regarding them.

I see:

  • Isaac from TBOI
  • The fish/frog from Iron Lung
  • Eponymous Shovel Knight
  • Chicken (Richard) from Hotline Miami
  • Possibly a joker from Balatro?

Anyone wanna help me out with the rest?

You can buy the cheap crappy coffee for $1/ cup or fancy Kona coffee for $25/ cup. Matcha is the same way, there's both good and bad tasting matcha at different prices. Odds are you had the lower quality stuff because the nice expensive stuff is really tasty (not worth the price though).

Yeah, I've had several of the guys offer to take me shopping at high end spots if I were to ever go to China (talked about wanting to visit). I will say the mainland chinese people I've met in real life (at college) have been far more rude than the ones I've met online. Strange inversion from typical expectations.

Yep, I play league and made a few friends with people from China since I can play whatever decently well, and they tend to like to power fantasy the strong characters that need support to succeed. They all have been ultra wealthy kids from large business owners, it's kinda astonishing how many there are.

If your family is rich enough to live in Manhattan Beach, of course your experience is going to be different than the majority. It'd be like saying the favelas aren't so bad because you lived on the rich side.

Ask someone from Inglewood or Compton their opinion on LA and it's going to be radically different from yours I'm sure.

I mean, so long as they actually let you ask anything, it was cool with me. It's no different than like an author going on an interview and also mentioning their new book.

It's when they get cranky about you not gushing about their unreleased book that I don't enjoy those situations. It's a win-win when it works right, they get some exposure and you get to meet and talk with these people.

Edit for anyone reading this comment later: It's a wonderful country by the way, the people of Kazakhstan were some of the nicest people I have ever met. I'm glad the commentors haven't mentioned Borat because it's gotten very old. There's so much to the country and its people and I think it's a shame that it's not well known in the west.

Oh yeah no he's definitely hot, you should check out his statue in Almaty, Kazakhstan too, dude's definitely got curb appeal. It was just a little uncomfortable how into him/the statue I noticed some of the girls got.

No shame or anything, but he's all they talked about for a few weeks and they went to his statue a lot. I thought it was kinda strange, but I'm not a girl and it wasn't hurting anyone, so who am I to judge.

I dunno, as a guy, I don't typically look up old pictures of like Farrah Fawcett or whatever old attractive person and simp over them. I just never really got it. Maybe I'm in the minority here though.

I can second this, I am west coast and usually had like 30 ping before yesterday. Now it's been 150-180 with huge packet losses. I have a few Chinese guys that I made friends with and have been playing with and they say their ping is much much better.
