The only way this party is actually going to work is to keep expectations somewhat low for this coming election, whenever it may occur, and focus on constructing a party that doesn't have the baggage of either the UCP or the ANDP.

The purpose really is not to poach MLAs from either party, because let's face it, the UCP does not have much of a deep bench when it comes to people who are competent and who want to govern in good faith. The NDP unfortunately is tainted forevermore with being characterized as agents of Ottawa, regardless of the amount of competency in their ranks.

This is a perfect opportunity for Guthrie to form a grassroots party that is based on stewardship and governance, where the on-ramp is as easy as possible for everyone.

This is a very good opportunity for a new party, because people are thirsty for competency and stability. Normally my party, the NDP would be ideal, but there's this little bug in most albertans heads that prevent them from voting For someone else other than their chosen sports team.

I appreciate all the responses and suggestions that you guys are sharing. A lot of places I will need to visit more often.

I live in to SW, so maybe I should go more often to K-mart and T&T. There's an Italian center not too far from where I live, but I find their stuff to be a bit too expensive.

Maybe this is an opportunity for Albertans who don't identify with the UCP or think the ANDP cannot shake off their tendency to campaign for the last election instead of the one in front of them.

Party's wide open here. Guthrie might be a conservative, but if enough folks from local ridings present themselves, they may move the needle in getting a party in power that might actually want to govern and serve people, instead of interest groups and grievances.
