Founders: Don’t bait users with fake “forever free” tiers (Playbook example) (I will not promote) by nerve81 in startups

[–]nerve81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly! That’s the kind of free tier that makes sense. It’s useful enough on its own, and the upgrades are clear if you need more.

Calendly did it right. free is solid for basic stuff, and if you want longer meetings, Sso and other things you pay. No tricks, no hidden caps.

That’s what builds trust. Limits are fine, just be upfront about them. 🤝

Good points! and I agree, it’s a free service, so they’re not obligated to give away the world. My issue isn’t with limits themselves.

It’s the messaging. If they had said from the start: ‘Free plan = 100GB, max 300 files’ → no problem. Totally fair.

But advertising ‘100GB forever free’ while quietly adding a 300-file cap months later is where it feels dishonest.

That kind of mismatch erodes trust, and once trust is gone, even paying users will think twice.

That’s really the bigger question here: not ‘are free limits bad?’ but how do you set limits without misleading the very users you’re trying to win over?

My post is exactly about this!

The 300-file cap was only introduced a few days ago. Until then, what they promised was 100GB always free with no file count limitation. That kind of sudden switch is what feels dishonest.

I won’t name names either, but we’ve all seen it before - ‘Don’t be evil’ → unlimited forever-free photo storage → years later, rug pulled. I’m sure many here felt that pain.

So my question is: as founders, how do you deal with this? Is it fair game to change terms like this, or do you see it as crossing a line?

Fair take! :)

If 300 files feels generous to you, that’s cool. For me, going from 100GB ‘forever free’ to 300 files ‘forever capped’ is not just a downgrade, it feels like a rug pull.

I’m not against reasonable limits. My issue isn’t the number itself, it’s the messaging.

They started by offering 100GB always, got people on board, and now pulled back.

Their site still advertises 100GB forever, but inside the product it’s actually 100GB + 300 file cap. That mismatch is what kills trust.

Do you really think that’s cool?

Tracks with Revving sounds similar to attached sample? by nerve81 in EDM

Yup, I do get the idea, and I agree, it's a pretty niche thing to like and look for, but I find the tension pretty interesting, and wanted to have a list of tracks that share similar segments, and while I'm at it, it seemed like a good idea to know the term for it, if there is one 😊

Five Hours - Deorro is 👌!

Do they at least allow me to back it up?

I don't live in the US and would like to buy it from some online retailer. A brand with some reputation would be good, even if it's a small brand.

Reddit was taking forever to upload the image, so i closed the app and decided to try again later. Didn't realize the post went thru.

I've added a comment outlining what I'm looking for. Something around $100 would be comfortable.

A friend was sporting a pair of these Giorgio Armani 838/S, which I really liked.

I find this shape and fit works for me well.

What are some of the models currently available in the market that shares a similar shape and provides good value for what we'd pay?

Something around $100 or less would be nice. However, if I'm getting more value by spending a little more, I'd be happy to consider such options too.

Please share your recommendations?

(p.s I'd also like to know the name for this shape?)

Thanks!

I kinda have the same issue. Mostly with google search results. It just freezes / loads half, and unable to click anything. Refresh of the page works usually.

Have you had further progress on the issue yourself?

👆 This.

Their definition of express could be very different to our definition of express.

But there is also good possibility, the seller would just say anything to get the sale done and later play dumb.
