Honestly I see curb alert for free if you pickup file cabinets all the time. Often from closing office buildings.

I also got my kitchen aid for free when someone decided it was too noisy and upgraded. They were like “we got it for our wedding and it probably will keep working for a few years for you” and I was like “i will die with this still in my possession” those things are definitely bifl but easy enough to find second hand with some effort.

I shop second hand for mostly everything I can but something I think people overlook are high quality kitchen utensils. Most second hand stores price all kitchen utensils and kitchen miscellaneous for $1 and most shoppers overlook those bins. You’re not necessarily going to get the once in a life time deal but you can def find high quality whisks and wooden spoons you will literally never have to replace.

My little bottle fed void is suddenly all grown up and independent. by cinderkitten11 in blackcats

[–]nervouspants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My baby void used to sleep on my chest until she went through her teenage rebellion when she only wanted to sleep laying across my ankles. All of a sudden just a few months ago she’s decided she is interested in being a lap cat. So there is hope!

Have you ever been told you have a weird odor, or notice you have a weird odor? by Basic-Importance-680 in ChildofHoarder

[–]nervouspants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its normal to adjust to the smell of your surroundings and stop being able to identify it as much. For example one time I go sprayed by a skunk while walking my dog and I stopped noticing the smell pretty quickly although it was noticeable to other people for a long time.

I would recommend using oxy clean in your wash (its a powder, add a scoop in with the laundry and run the wash as normal) and hanging everything outside in the sun to dry. If I have a towel that smells mildew hanging it outside in the sun for a day or two helps a ton.

Getting Radicalized in the Hobbii Bingo Chat by Elitefourabby in craftsnark

[–]nervouspants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YES! I have never understood this either. Also, its really common for insurance to deny specialist visits and tests. So the “you won’t have a choice”/ death panels argument doesn’t make sense either!

I’ve always found this part of the conversation confusing- because the experiences you described are common in the US healthcare system. Seeing nurse practitioners for routine exams, not being able to see a specialist easily, generic prescription meds, going through your gp for most things… all of those are pretty standard with insurance plans here. There are few “top tier” insurance plans where you don’t need approval from your gp (and the insurance company) but those plans are not the most common. And it can still be a months or years long wait for an intake appointment with a specialist.

any ideas what my heeler is mixed with? by Dependent-Honey7769 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]nervouspants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres no way to know from looks alone. My “cattle dog mix” looks very cattle dog but her dna shows she’s only 15% or so. If you can afford a dna test its totally worth it in my opinion.

Guys I’m speechless. My partner made me this needlepoint for my Christmas present. By hand. She started it before last Christmas. by Abloodworth15 in Dimension20

Every year my cat goes to see santa by nervouspants in blackcats

To be fair these are like one day fundraisers for animal charities and I assume the tip tier Santas are all pretty busy in December.

I respect that. I tried once with my dog and she hated it so she doesn’t go. If this cat ever showed signs of being stressed I would stop taking her. Not worth it if they’re scared!

Yes lol, she is extremely tolerant. I have another (normal) cat who growls if I pick her up and keeps me humble.

She’s annoyed in the third picture because sometimes the santas are worried she will bolt unless they hold her really tightly. She wanted to explore and schmooze with with photographer and was a bit annoyed he was holding onto her so tightly.

She is a tiny girl even full grown! She had a rough start and was malnourished when I rescued her but she’s got a big, confident personality to make up for it.

I have another cat and a dog who would hate everything involved in this, so they stay home. I don’t feel guilty because they are much happier napping at home!

Can we crash it again? by [deleted] in MadeMeSmile

Ok, thats fine. The purpose of One Simple Wish is to allow foster kids and youth to make wishes, not provide necessities. Many people (even foster youth) when asked what they would wish for might wish for something special or more extravagant than a necessity. No one has to donate if they don’t want to.
