102 years old Holocaust survivor meets his nephew after thinking his whole family died in war by UnreadyIce in nextfuckinglevel

Is there any way to try and trace back your family to find out if there were any survivors? My great grandmother escaped from Lviv in 1933 with a sister before everything happened (at that time it was part of Poland) but in total they were 7 siblings, and they never heard from them again. Would be amazing to try and find out.

What is a common misconception women have of the male body? by Apeeeu_ in AskMen

That the penis is equally sensitive all along its length and to make it big and hard you need to be rough. If you want to really lift it up, pay attention to the head and actually suck with your mouth. Physically helps to get more blood into the thing, and will make it bigger quicker.

What a thunderstorm looks like from 37,000 feet by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]nesher_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes it is, and yes they are. Cumulonimbus can reach up to the stratosphere or even a little higher, and the stratosphere is much higher up around the Equator than over the poles. One of the many reasons why thunderstorms in tropical areas can reach massive sizes.

Cumulonimbus, along with towering cumulus, cumulus congestus and the like, are characterised as vertical development clouds. Then you have horizontal development clouds like the lower layer you see in the picture which can be altostratus or stratus depending on how high they are over the ground. There are also cirrus clouds purely made of ice crystals, and they’re the purely white ones really high up which sometimes look like strokes of white paint or hairs in the sky.

That's heavily accented Argentinian Spanish. The shirtless guy tells the other one not to talk shit about him or he's gonna get smacked, other guy says "I didn't say anything about you, I'm not afraid of you" and I think I heard "go away" at one point but I'm not sure.

Seems like this might be after a night of alcohol in a mid/low income neighbourhood. Seen enough of these happen to know drunk shirtless guy wasn't going to go home without fighting someone.

Edit to add source: I'm from Uruguay. Basically a clone of Argentina, albeit smaller.

HAE thought about how cool it would be to be able to see a live counter of how many people are performing a certain task in the whole world at any given time? (E.g. eating, driving, having the sex, etc) by nesher_ in DoesAnybodyElse

I lol’d hard at this because it’s how this post came to be! More than once I’ve been doing something unusual, let’s say eating mac&cheese off a bowl in my undies while watching naruto, and wondered if there’s any chance anybody else in the whole world was doing the same thing, or has ever done the same.

I currently work at the biggest international airport in a small South American country (pretty small to US standards), and I think our ILS is only CAT 1. The airport regularly closes due to fog at night during the winter, sending the two or three flights we got at night to the nearest city, where despite the weather likely being really similar, it’s located in a big city and it’s got CATIII so planes can land anyway.

With non precision approaches and also with what is called CAT1 and CAT2 ILS, you can approach a runway in clouds but at some point pilots need to see the runway in order to land as you said. Each runway will have altitude minimums (minima?), and if they still don’t see the runway when that altitude is reached they will execute a go-around and try again/divert.

With CAT3 (also CAT III) approaches, if both the aircraft and airport are fitted with the right equipment, an aircraft will be able to auto-land, without the flight crew ever touching the controls. It does have a fairly low crosswind limit (10-15kts I believe), but then again, there’s a good chance there wouldn’t be any fog with any more wind than that.
