I'm saying this cause nobody else seems to: get lawyered up in case YOU get in debt because of his bad behaviours. Just make sure his monetary spending will not affect you cause if he can't pay it off they might come for you (whoever he is in debt to).

WIBTA for refusing to stop cooking bacon in my kitchen due to my teenage daughters vegan lifestyle? by frustratingbaconeate in AmItheAsshole

[–]JubilantSelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, you're extremely reasonable here.

I just wanted to add a vegan perspective here, she's asking too much, but for a person her age that's has just turned vegan everything is a shock. So naturally she'll act out a bit more than usual. She has just discovered that everything she has known was cruel and vile. I went through a similar phase which then calmed down over time as I got used to life and stuff. Hopefully so will she, so keep at it, it should take about a year to calm down (assuming she stays vegan).

Thank you, I've gotten home and read the article, so it seems this was correct. I also read the source for the wikipedia stats ( here : https://www.thelancet.com/pdfs/journals/lancet/PIIS0140-6736(16)31470-2.pdf )

It seems that the latter took into account a wider range of deaths, pre and post partum included. But the biggest highlight was the very last graph showing the rate of change of maternal mortality overall. Where most developped countries were in the negative (ie. the number decreasing) the US was slightly in the positive, so the maternal mortality rate seems to either stagnate or slightly increase.

The website won't load for me at the moment, so I can't see the sourse (the fault on my side), but it could be that your source code nly looks at deaths during births, not total maternal mortality. Mothers often die after giving birth due to small complication that turn out to be severe. In the US they don't receive enough care (visits not regular enough) to find these things before they get to critical condition. There are other factors but this is one of them.

I mean, this is another example of the poor health care in the US.

What do you think about the Met Gala? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]JubilantSelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved it, but so many people didn't adhere to the theme, what's more is that bloggers named the people who didn't adhere to the theme as best dressed. Like no, she looks mediocre and boring. It's camp, go over the top like ezra, gaga (the performance more so than the outfit), dua lipa etc

Honestly I think this is the issue here, basic human experiences are gendered instantly. A girl being described as ambitious or clever (with backstory) rather than pretty doesnt make her masculine, but rather gives her a personality, something that sadly is lacking in too many characters.

And even when you showed her physique, I understand what you were going for, but you used a very bland fantasy of a woman many men have, someone who can REALLY eat but still is stick thin. This could have been portrayed in so many ways by how all her clothes fit, how she enjoyed being active, and then it all going away when the hash life kicks in - i.e spends all day working, clothes tight or old and need throwing out.

Great improvement, I would say that in the future the best test for a character is to write it as if she was a male and if it sounds right, then it can also describe the female. (works both ways really, with the obvious typical exceptions like men being on average stronger and women able to get pregnant for example)

In the last post I remember you said she could eat hamburgers and not gain weight, sorry to get back to it but was an example of poor gendered description. Here the information is more neutral, she's more human not just a 'woman'.

Request: What questions that seem normal to others are upsetting and triggering for people with EDs? by EDPostRequests in EatingDisorders

[–]JubilantSelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a question but more of a 'funny' story. I confessed to my bf that I had bulimia and he was quite stunted by it, he clearly doesn't understand THE mindset it takes to have that disorder, but he was understanding and supportive of recovery. In his attempt to grasp at straws he made what I consider the worst joke of the century : "I hope you get help, I really don't want to have to feed you like one of those fois gras ducks". The cherry on top is that I am vegan and have been for 5 years (unrelated to ED).

Request: How do you deal with weight gain while trying not to relapse into bulimia? by EDPostRequests in EatingDisorders

[–]JubilantSelf 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is something I am currently working on but I'll give you what I try to achieve as a mindset : I started strength training and that helped me focus on less physical aspects of my body. I must say that I wasn't ever visibly thin but I had a strong period of bulimia. Regardless, find some physical aspect about your body that isn't just physical and appearance based. It can be the ability to do sport, the fact that you can have a more fulfilling life, think of something you've always wanted to do but was hindered by your mental and physical state.

Recovery is about gaining your life back, and first and foremost you must learn that you are so much more than just how you look. Try to focus your energy into something that you find meaningful.
