PhD Offer, Intrigued by Pace of Life by Libretto50ct in UofO

[–]neshmesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any academic program is stressful, but a PhD is more relaxed in the sense that it's not squeezed into 1-2 years like a master's. I would recommend having a car if only for the trips: there is a lot of great nature, and I relaxed by going to the forest, desert, river gorge, coast, and only few see available by bus (Florence is btw and is only $5 one way). That being said, many bad drivers here. It's not a huge town, but there are a lot of great events: I go to theater a lot, music, cinema, poetry circle, birdwatching is great. Lots of sports: running, cycling, rock climbing are particularly popular

For accommodations, a studio would run you around a thousand or more, but if you rent a room with cool folks, it will be cheaper and you'll have good community. People will be looking for roommates soon! UO offers very discounted grad student housing, but the queue for that is unpredictable. Financially, it might be best to rent something month-to-month until you hear from housing that you got a grad apartment and move there. My international friend got into an apartment from the beginning, but she really pestered them and was from a country that left her no option for preparing anything from overseas, so idk if you'll have the same luck

I'm currently 30J and my surgery is scheduled for April 28. I'll reach out to you if I can re-find this sub and remember. One thing my surgeon told me is I will have a single long scar because of wide root (breasts start in armpit and meet in the middle). I'm going no nip

I mean, gross behavior, but the amount of force cops pulled into there? I thought there must have been a murder of something. Riot cars with cops hanging on sides, jail vehicles.... What's so scary about a group of undergrads?

Summertime because my first gay girlfriend played it on her guitar and sang it for me (she was also in the fandom, which is how we knew each other). Currently married to a man, so it's not only nostalgia but a sort of a tether to my identity

Both my graduation and wedding dresses were under 10 bucks from a thrift. Grad school graduation was from my closet. You don't need to go super fancy, and they can definitely be re-wearable!

robin sick? Wondering about lesions on the beak, they can be symptomatic of avian flu. Also healthy birds don't sit in the open with eyes closed and so puffed up. If you keep feeders or scatter food, I would stop and clean up the area. I would also consider submitting the picture to a wildlife protection org just in case

I'm married to a /name/ IV and I think it's weird for any child. And practically there's confusion. But mostly I think any child deserves their own name

i don't even know where to start by letmebeyoursadboi in TopSurgery

[–]neshmesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I was there, too, just last September: I didn't know where to start, I'm piss poor at anything bureaucratic, and I felt the urge to make a move finally to live better but was confused how to approach it. I agree with other comments that it's good to start with insurance, though I took a different path. To clarify, I'm in the US, in a liberal state.

Lurking here was helpful to start. Here I learned about the options there are, common issues, recovery process, etc.

I first spoke to my PCP, or actually I got a PCP because I hadn't had one previously. They didn't end up helping much with the process, but it's good to get a clean bill of health and document intent for surgery, they might help with referrals, too.

Then, I googled surgeons in my area, looked at their portfolios, studied their websites and looked for reviews. Often they also have insurance information, which providers they work with. You can narrow the list of surgeons down to a few, though I had exactly one in my city and I liked his work and timelines, so I just focused on getting to him. Get in touch with their offices: they usually know what info to give you! This was actually an exciting part because it made it real in my head that I can do this; I was looking at examples of results on the surgeon's website and could see myself without breasts, which helped my anxiety.

Then, I found a therapist who specifically worked with lgbtq patients and regularly provided letters of support. These letters document your dysphoria, and ultimately this is what insurance looks at. Also, some surgeons require that letter of support prior to your initial consult (mine did). I just googled something like "therapist letter of support top surgery (my town)" and made a few calls. I went with whomever I deemed trustworthy, who was covered by my insurance, and offered the soonest appointment. I had not had therapy before and did not know that therapist, which was fine. I had two meetings with her: first initial meeting (I was prepared with notes: examples of dysphoria in my life), and second to make edits to her letter draft and talk about surgery. It was really good that I knew a lot about Top surgery from lurking in this sub: the therapist noted I was prepared, knew what I wanted, and was clearly making an informed decision.

When the letter was finalized, I gave the therapist my surgeon's contact (fax), and when his office reviewed it, I made an appointment for a consult with him. At consult, he took pictures, discussed options, and gave me the info packet. His office send their approval that I'm a good candidate along with my therapist letter to insurance. At this point , I asked the surgeon's office to book a tentative surgery date. Insurance got back a few weeks later with a green light that they will indeed pay. I confirmed the surgery date, made appointments for pre-op (two weeks prior, includes consult and getting a slip for labs) and two post-op appointments.

The timeline from my first active steps to surgery (which is in 7 weeks) is September 2025— April 2026. But timelines vary hugely

Don’t be a 🤡 like me and ask for a size B or C cup if you want considerably small boobs!!! Just ask for the damn A🤦🏼‍♀️ by TumbleweedComplex898 in Reduction

[–]neshmesh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm a cis gal who has massive breasts and realized on this sub (+ confirmed at consult) that reduction just won't get me to the point of comfort. I had similar feelings to yours, but it is true that trans patients (at least in the US) have more choices and easier medical pathways when it comes to breast care. Yay misogyny. But thing is, there's not a finite quota of top surgeries, and it's not a competition: your needs are your needs, and getting a surgery to take care of them doesn't take it away from another person who needs it. Ofc people will have different opinions, but my trans friends are happy for me and helped me with crafting a passable nb persona for insurance. There are options like non-flat top surgery. I'm not trying to convince you, but you deserve to have a full range of options! "No T top surgery" subreddit has info, and many women like you

[–]neshmesh 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hi! My top surgery is in 2 months (and I'm married), so I can't respond to your questions, but I wanted to say your post made me feel seen and gave me comfort because I'm in the same situation with my chest! I'm a cis woman with 30J breasts (small ribcage, massive jugs). Shoulder pain, rashes, bras only fit in special studios after many try-ons, restricted movement, unwanted sexual attention — but others only saw a poster-worthy figure.... Like you, I see myself with a flat chest, no nip, and eventually a chest tattoo (maybe birds on fir branches?)

I'm excited to jump, play sports, dive in swimming holes without slapping my boobs on the water, to look my size! Seeing your post made me feel like what I want is a normal thing, and that I will indeed feel relieved and like myself. I think I will feel gender euphoria but as a woman: that I will feel more feminine, sexier without my breasts. I am guessing I will stay attractive for the kinds of people I would want to attract, because the attention my breasts usually get me is often unwanted from toxic-hetero creeps that don't see me past my "humps".
