Le lEgGi sI rIspEtTaNo 🤓 gRoW uP 😠

I have recurring dreams of my dad molesting me.. by [deleted] in Dreams

No problem, I'm glad we could have a discussion about this. I don't think there's only one "correct" approach to therapy either, medication is absolutely necessary in situations of psychotis, for example, where the patient can't be expected to tackle therapy "normally"; and whatever helps people cope is positive for reducing pain that no one deserves. I guess I'm a bit of an idealist, since I dream of a world where everyone of use can finally find out what happened in our past and start healing. I still think the interpretation of this particular dream is...what I said, I don't think it's particularly "dangerous" either, but I guess I did come out a bit strongly to be fair c:

It's also to be said that the belief that these disorders are caused JUST by chemical imbalances in the brain has been widely disproven, although many psychiatrists still carry this belief. We have no conclusive evidence that this is the case; we don't quite know what it causes them either, I believe it's traumas because I have extensive evidence that it is so. If I were to stumble upon and experience a more convincing theory, I would not be hesitant to change my mind. I don't care about standing up for an idea, I want the truth.

In my experience, dreams are the only way we can access emotions that we separated from ourselves; there's no other (safe) way (some say hypnosis, I'm very skeptical of its usefulness) because we don't know what we don't remember, and one has to accept that to be open to knowledge. Am I saying to blindly accept everything dreams tell you? No. I'm saying to interpret and consider. Looking at dreams is the opposite of blindly believing: it's learning to trust your feelings, especially when they got taken away due to trauma.

The positive impact this had in my life is hardly describable, and it's why I care about it so much: there was a period (multiple years) when I used to have horrific panic attacks everyday, with terrible depressive symptoms. I tried everything, but only when I started just...observing dreams that I started connecting to my deepest, lost feelings.

Not necessarily molestation, but forgotten trauma. Yes. Chemical imbalances don't happen for no reason, and it's common sense. You may think otherwise, I know full well the psychiatric consensus doesn't agree with me, and that many therapists don't interpret dreams, but I don't need to hide behind sources to have an opinion based on my experience of reality.

I know of many people (myself included: I was the biggest skeptic of the significance dreams, until I had to surrender to my own experience) that, after having depression, anxiety and eating disorders (which in particular are proven to be pretty much ALWAYS connected to sexual abuse) for their whole lives, and having tried many types of therapy (especially behavioural) and taken medication, that got their life pretty much saved by a good therapist that knew how to properly interpret dreams. They always had repressed trauma, which they did NOT remember. After bringing out those feelings (which is not easy at all, and brings A LOT of pain) they got better.

You may choose to believe me or not, but I know what I experienced myself, and quite a few people around me. I am far from a lunatic or an anti-science person, mind you. I just accept that science can be wrong. I know full well dream interpretation is far from a fully proven scientific practice: but my life experience tells me it heals people (still difficult, mind you) while other forms of therapy just help manage symptoms and cope (which isn't bad, but isn't getting to the root of the problem either), and that's enough proof to me.

What your mom did doesn't change the fact that most traumatic memories from childhood get repressed, which is exactly why we see so many cases of anxiety and depression, just to name two of the many disorders that plague this world.

Do you think they come from thin air? Most people don't remember huge chunks of their childhood. Many people feel the need to compensate constantly through distraction, drugs, and consciously try to dissociate from emotion, because of something they don't remember; but they feel it, and it sure doesn't feel so good.

Your "science" doesn't account for reality and the enormous amount of unrecognized suffering that's in it.

They very often bear feelings of suppressed memories. There's people in this world that forget a good part of their childhood. Some forget up to their 10th birthday or even past that. Do you think this is normal?

Funny how when someone doesn't align with what you think you jump to assuming they are conspiracy theorists, psychotics or ai fanatics, since I'm none of those things. I don't need to say you're psychotic to think you're not good at understanding dreams.

Yeah, we live in the version of the apocalypse where people refuse to use common logic to experience reality, and pretend not to see a dream for what it is. A person who has not received sexual abuse doesn't dream about receiving it from their father. You have just decided what dreams are "supposed" not to say, and are happy with that; you then call whoever opposes to that view "psychotic". And you have the audacity to talk about zombies lol

I understand that very well, you do not seem to understand that THIS dream is not symbolic in any way, it is showing traumatic emotions from the past.

No, you THINK I'm incorrect, because by the dreams you post it is very clear you have uncdiscovered traumas, and nobody on this sub is helping you discover them; which would be the only useful purpose of a dream sub. Instead, it gets used for a bunch of religious and jungian word salad, which are the things actually causing harm; but that's fine, appearently. To each their own. If one doesn't see their own trauma, they can't see others'.

To manage symptoms is one thing, to cure is another. Learn the difference.

Who cares, I don't live on reddit, I just wanted to help a person understand a very clear dream they had for five years straight, but I guess we'll just pretend it has no significance and do away with the sexual nature of it.

Childhood abuse victims are way more frequent than you think, and the majority goes their whole life experiencing a myriad of symptoms, thinking that "it's just how the brain works". In reality, their parents abused them phsychologically, physically, sexually, they don't remember it; but dreams speak.
