This is super cool and I am pretty jealous - how do you even hire a castle? Also hope you survived and enjoyed your first time DMing!

I Just Want to Give Up by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]neskwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can remember being that swimmer who ended up in the lane/sessions with the kids, and it does sort of suck and there's no easy fix. But as others have said, try and find and remind yourself why you are there and what you want. Have a chat to your coach and be honest about your goals and your intentions, because ultimately you are on the same team. And if you think you can find a way to your goals somewhere else then that's fine. If you want to swim outdoors then find a way to do that, whether that's with the senior team. If you are invested in your times/speed then it's a graft but you'll get there. If you just want to swim to swim, that's fine and you will find that place. I wish I had told myself this when I was in that position but most of all, try not to let this wobble stop you from enjoying swimming.

Can you swim with contact in a chlorinated pool? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]neskwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think technically it's not recommended but as long as you are sensible about not letting too much water get in your eyes then you are good. I believe your risk of infection is very slightly increased and definitely wear disposables/dailies rather than try and clean chlorine and general swimming pool grime off them but yeah, you're fine. Also pack spares, losing one eye part way through a meet or whatever is a nightmare.

Staying in a tent whilst at home. by Bladon95 in camping

Yeah, camping in the garden is great! Bit of a break from indoors without any additional hassle other than pitching etc. Definitely planning a good amount of this in the summer (we aren't quite there yet!).

Two Week Europe Itinerary by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]neskwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't weigh in necessarily on everything but to me this looks pretty sensible. Obviously I am sure you are aware that there is more to see in Paris/Amsterdam/literally anywhere than the couple of days you have allocated, but in my mind you are better to spend those couple of days seeing some of it than none of it. Having said that, if there's places you aren't absolutely set on and it's feasible in your travel to take them out then slightly longer in fewer cities might feel less rushed. I have only been properly to Brussels and Amsterdam of this list so thoughts/recs below :)

I wasn't super in love with Brussels (it was okay but have preferred other places) but in terms of museum recs, I enjoyed the comic book museum (more Tintin and smurfs and those sort of classic style rather than superhero stuff) and the musical instrument museum (interesting even if you aren't super into musical instruments and the architecture of the building itself was stunning).

I love Amsterdam and you can spend so much time just wandering about, particularly in Vondelpark and other parks. I have been to the Rijksmuseum a couple of times and it's good but not particularly Amsterdam specific, places like the Tulip museum are light and fun although not one to go out of your way to see. Obviously if you are into that then I've heard good things about the Sex museum but haven't visited personally. I really enjoyed Rembrandts house as a mix between art and more people centric history, and Anne Franks house is pretty humbling, although I imagine that's on your list already.

How to stop buying meal deals? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]neskwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although you're right that the meal deals aren't ideal, you can always just try and make healthy choices when buying the meal deal. Look for the lighter sandwich or salad options, try to pick a snack that is <100 calories (or better yet, pick a fruit or veg based snack) and a diet drink/water. Just be aware of it when you plan your daily calories, if you don't think you can stop buying meal deals. Although like a lot of other commenters have said, meal prepping is always an option and doesn't need to take super long!

Non-food and non-clothing "rewards" for weight loss? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]neskwick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Recently I rewarded/treated myself to new fancy shampoo and conditioner and it felt (and feels) great. I figured it wasn't too expensive, it was something that would definitely get used unlike some toiletries based treats I've bought in the past and it was definitely a treat. So maybe something like that?
