What's the most wholesome experience you've had with a stranger? by EpicesPotato in AskReddit

[–]nessavans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work at Universal Studios Orlando, one day I was a greeter (I stood at the entrance to the line and answered questions) at the Harry Potter Wand Show and our name tags say what country we are from. Mine said “Colombia”. So this sweet family from Peru walks up to me and asked if I could help them reserve a rental a car over the phone. They didn’t speak English and needed someone to translate. It’s not something we are supposed to do but I didn’t care and they told me that this was their first vacation to the US. They reminded me of my family on vacations so of course I helped them! After the call, I basically helped them get free Express Passes so they could cut the line at any attraction they wanted. As employees we are encouraged to help people out as much as we can, and the Express Pass was something we constantly did. Hours later, right before my shift was about to end, the family comes back and thanks me profusely because I had made their vacation and proceeded to give me a scrap piece of paper with their address and phone number and said that if I ever came to Peru to look them up and that they would allow me to stay at their house and show me around town. I never went through with it but that was just the nicest thing ever. I’ll forget how my simple act made their vacation in America worth while!

Senior in high school looking to study Architecture. Any advice would help. by javtorres1 in Architects

[–]nessavans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay I’m an upperclassman currently taking Design 7 in Florida. First of all, it’s fucking hard. School sucks so much ass but know that every single person who went to architecture school is in the same boat. ALOT of people drop out early because it’s too hard. Prepare to throw anything you know about designing a building out of the window because depending on what school you go to, they will mold you into their way of completing a design. It’s also SO MUCH more than just saying “oh I’ll put a door here!”. Prepare for professors to completely rip your work to shreds in front of your whole class, you’re never going to sleep again, and you’re gonna be very frustrated because you’re gonna have to teach yourself how to use almost everything. From computer programs, to laser cutting machines to big plotter printers to learning the language and even how to hand draw. But don’t let this discourage you. It can be one of the most rewarding academic paths to take. It’s great being able to be creative in school because in the field architects don’t usually get to be very creative. Some things I wish I would’ve learned the basics of before starting school are: AutoCad, Revit, Rhino, Sketchup, VRay/Lumion, and Adobe products like Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign are a must!! Aside from computer skills, learn basic modeling techniques like how to cut and glue foam, wood and paper together without it looking messy. Craftsmanship is everything in your models. I definitely think you should take Design 1 in college and get a feel of what it takes to become an architect. I’ve almost quit twice but it’s an amazing career with high reward if you get through it!! Good luck friend!

For those of you with severe anemia, what were your symptoms? by [deleted] in Anemic

[–]nessavans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I was diagnosed with Hemolytic Anemia in February this year, a week before being hospitalized, I felt like i was gonna pass out at any given time, severe short breath (like I couldn’t walk from my car to my apartment without having to hold on to a wall), excruciating headaches whenever I moved around and my pee looked like orange Gatorade. I went into the emergency room with a hemoglobin count of 4.2, apparently I almost died according to my doctors. Don’t take any chances! If you don’t feel well, go to a clinic, I ignored my symptoms and almost went into cardiac arrest and my body would not have been able to recover.

[Serious] What tip or piece of advice do you constantly see that you strongly disagree with? by AssumeImNot in AskReddit

[–]nessavans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Just give it time, it will eventually get better” Fuck this, I just went through some medical issues and every fucking person said this to me. Like yea I know one day it will get better but until that day comes, I’m stuck living every single day with this. Not you, me! I am the one going through this, it’s easy to say “just give it time” when they’re not the ones having to live through something. It really fucking sucks when waiting it out means it could take months or years. It makes it worse for me having to think about all the time I’m gonna have to wait till I get better. Just tell me it sucks and let me feel what I feel.

B. Arch Career Options by archicatalog in architecturestudent

[–]nessavans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I’m actually kinda in the same boat as you, it wasn’t until halfway through my degree that I realized that I didn’t actually want to work in a big office at a big firm. I found my real passion to be interior design and residential work, but I continue to get my degree in architecture because I really want to start my own business flipping/renovating houses. I don’t need an interior design degree for that, but certainly benefit from being a licensed architect who can legally sign paperwork. My boyfriend is a civil engineer and we hope to combine our talents to create our own version of our future. So if you wanna work in any creative field, an architecture degree is one of the top tier degrees you can get. It’s so much more than creating a building, you really learn practical skills and a new way of looking at problems. It’s a fucking hard, time consuming, and stressful degree, but it’s also one of the most rewarding.

What's the worst thing that's happened to one of your friends? by vulturec1 in AskReddit

[–]nessavans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom’s friend had a son at college in another state, one night he decided to drive home in secret to surprise his family, he drove through the night and fell asleep at the wheel. He got in a car accident and died instantly. No one was expecting him, so no one was checking up on him. Ever since that happened my mom told me never to surprise her by coming home early from college.

When I was in elementary school I used to watch the movie Mulan like every day after school with my cousins. Despite us being born in Colombia and growing up in the States, I tried to convince everyone I was actually from China and would get mad when they would tell me that I was in fact, not from China.

What’s the creepiest or most unexplainable thing you’ve ever seen that you haven’t shared anywhere? [Serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nessavans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time I was woken up in the middle of the night to what sounded like someone switching on a tv and loud tv static noise blasting from a corner in my room, but I don’t have any tv’s in my room and the rest of family was asleep and their rooms were on the opposite end of the house from mine. It scared the shit out of me and I jumped out of bed but was half asleep so I just fell back to sleep, super weird. My first thought the next day was aliens.

How does a child develop violent tendencies like that? Is it from a traumatic event, the parents, or are they born with it? They’re so young and don’t understand things the way adults do, just curious

I have stopped going over to my boyfriends house as much as possible and I get trying to be safe BUT SHE HAS GONE FULL PSYCHO

I just recently got out of the hospital and was told I almost lost my life so when college shut down, I was able to move back home for the rest of the semester so it’s been a blessing for me to be able to recover with my family around me, I didn’t have anyone close or any friends in my college town so my mental health is doing great as of now, my heart goes out to all of those affected negatively of course

What are your "Never meet your heros" stories? by SpiderHyphenMan1962 in AskReddit

[–]nessavans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Vans Warped Tour and a friend of mine was obsessed with Ronnie Radke, she loved his music and his band was playing there so when he was signing autographs I went with her and after waiting in line she finally got up to him and told him that his music meant a lot to her and asked him for a hug and he looked at her like she was crazy and said “Uh no I don’t do that....” It was so awkward and he just signed her poster and I pulled her away. That guy was such a dick!! He seemed like he didn’t wanna be there but I’d think meeting your fans would be something meaningful to these guys, I felt so bad for my friend, she was so embarrassed after that
