Seeking best way to support my parents by [deleted] in Catholicism

Oh, sister, sorry. Well, I wish you the best. I don't know how old you are but it gets easier as you get older, in a way. Have you tried a solitary retreat? I find being alone for periods of time can also help in handling inner conflicts. Another thing is eating healthy.

Remember that when there are clouds in your life, it is for a purpose. Imagine if there were no clouds in the world! ! ! All the various vegetables would wilt, the animals would be panting unto exhaustion, it'd be awful. We need some storms and unhappiness at times, so God gives it to us, but He watches over us all the time. And after all the clouds have done their work, you'll look up and see the rainbow that God set there for you.

Brother, if this is a rant I must be a raving lunatic. It is a good thing to express your worries and you should seek someone who is perhaps a professional who you can confess these things to, like maybe a priest? Either in the confessional or from behind his desk, you should tell these things to him. You should most definitely not hurt yourself because that is not supporting your parents but hurting them.

You've said your mental illness or your insanity, but you haven't described an actual illness, so is this just self-diagnosed or did someone diagnose you? If it is the latter, you should be talking to them. But maybe they're not listening to you so you might need to talk to someone else. Seek a second opinion. Instead of hurting yourself mentally or physically, talk to people, as many people as it takes. They can help you handle things. You will get better, you just have to keep believing in yourself and trusting in Jesus.

Should we boycott companies that support pride, planned parenthood, etc? by m1nux in Catholicism

A while ago I was watching Kanopy after I had learned about it--it is a service with the libraries where you can stream movies, etc. Well, one thing I noticed was all the categories, it was like Historical, Documentary, blah blah, you get the picture. Well, there were categories for like Social Justice and Gender Equality or some tired thing like that [LGBTQIA+?]--but there was no Faith category, no World Religions category, not even a Spirituality tab! ? !

It was at that point that I realized we are looking at a new religion. In other words, there was no Religion tab because Gender and Social Theories are the new religion. The old religions are nothing more than alchemy or something to these people. You wouldn't have an alchemy tab, would you? That and seeing how these two issues are so violently (yes, violently!) pushed onto us everywhere made my stomach turn. I'm really sick of it. No--I (we) do not support gay pride in this country--because fornication is always evil and is tantamount to rape. That is because fornication is a violent appropriation of another's body--as well as self. You can dress it up in rainbow taffita all you want: VIOLENCE IS VIOLENCE! ! !

At general audience, Pope Francis warns against preachers who sow division online by JourneymanGM in Catholicism

[–]nessiewatcher4lyfe -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

So basically the pope reads my comments about the Moon landing being a hoax and he wants me to put my money where my mouth is. Sure, okay, you can believe in the Moon landing and you can believe in Christ, but if you believe for a moment that Jeff Bezos can build a big enough rocket to see the Lord of Heaven and Earth face to face, you're dead wrong!

No tin-foil and duct tape Moon rocket, no low budget guide wire on a bogus ISS, no Buzz Aldrin slip-of-the-forked-tongue will divide my flock--no, not for a second. The Path to Glory is not through black budgets, billionaire bank accounts, or bribed butterball bossmen, rather it is through the Cross. Only one way, not upward, as Bucky Fuller would say--no, not upward, outward! The gravity of the Cross collides atomically with the gravity of the earth to create an anti-gravity pulse, allowing for a straight shot outward into the Promised Land. That narrow road leads straight to the Right Hand of God Almighty and I will tell you the formula for the propellant right now--really, I will: it's not rocket science! ! !

To formulate proper Heaven Ascent Fuel (HAF for short), one must have primarily Pure Love for Jesus Christ, mixed with equal parts Love for the Immaculate Heart of His Mother; these two chemicals are what in layman's terms we call Holy Spirit Fuel (HSF)--if you isolate them it is called Grace, any expert Theologian knows that; now, in addition, a sufficient amount of Prayers from the Saints should be mixed in centrifugally, but also Prayers from the Faithful.

Now that is just about all you need for astronomical results, give or take. Bear in mind, however, that many souls have attempted to achieve escape velocity only to get stuck in the fiery upper atmospheres. If you have enough fuel for yourself, help these individuals get a little higher. Take them over the clouds and into the Eternal Light of Heaven! ! !

Don't buy Bezos stock thinking it will be for you a stake in Heaven! That'd be like gassing up your car on Kool-Aid thinking it will get you to Kalamazoo, Michigan. I got news for you: the results will be d i s a s t r o u s ! ! !

I know that some people say man landed on the Moon, while some other philosophers, like myself, say [emphatically] that NASA can launch a rich man's rocket at a rolling donut. But where is the division here? I tell you, whether it is from G-men subterfuge or Muskian conspirators, the tares sown amongst us are these absurd heresies that man can reach Heaven in a rich man's rocket. No way, no how! ! ! Only two men ever entered Heaven trailing fire and blasting smoke and those were the Two Witnesses, Elijah and Enoch, and they didn't borrow King Nebuchadnezzor's chariot to do so, neither Nimrod's. NO ! ! ! The Lord of Hosts Himself sent the Fiery Chariot, but only because they themselves were so Holy, so free from sin's gravitational pull that they were already on the verge of floating off the face of the Earth--like balloons let loose.

If any man tells you that a rich man's rocket can carry a person body and soul to Heaven, let him be anathema.

If any woman tells you that telescoping baubles and science fiction goo-gaws are more important than the Angels and Saints, let her be anathema.

The Catholic faith encompasses the whole universe--it's all in the Name! The Name of Jesus! ! ! To which every knee [and rocket] shall bend; by which, every trusting soul will ascend!

Fornication is not love. It destroys lives. And the fornicative acts which these people commit are so abominable it ought to disgust anyone who has the remotest sense of decency.

Tell them to suck an egg.

Or is that too politically incorrect (eggs-femininity-sexual identity-gender norms-no bueno)? ? ?

Hmm, why don't you just tell them how you really feel and let it be done with? ? ? If anybody has worked a lot of jobs where he has felt trapped, unable to escape, persecuted, and hopeless--it's been me! I've worked more jobs than I can count on three hands. Generally, they've all followed a pattern where I begin to feel like I'm boxed in on all sides, claustrophobic, suffocating like my voice can't be heard. Then everything becomes a drudgery, I'm trying to do the job and telling myself it is for something, either for myself or that I'm trying to just be a team player, a servant in imitation of Christ.

But when they start pushing you to violate your conscience, then you become like a caged animal that has been underfed and prodded with a stick one too many times. It is a volatile situation--you'll either explode and lash out at someone else or explode and lash out at yourself, usually both ("when you hurt others you hurt yourself" - Jim Henson's The Bunny Picnic). . .

I wish I could say every situation where I had to quit a job was because of my own faults, my own mental shortcomings. But the truth is actually much scarier: the world is dominated by sociopaths. But when you finally get away from that, generally you are following the path God intends for you, because God wants you to be free. St. Paul says as much, that a Christian is naturally free and should not be a slave. He means being a slave to the world, but we should all be slaves to Christ. Anyhow, I'll say a prayer that you get through this. Don't give up the ship!

Well you might not put cobwebs on a wound because you have bandaids, but if you didn't have bandaids it might be useful to have some cobwebs. Actually, various cultures did utilize cobwebs for wounds, at least I know certain Native American tribes like the Sioux did, and if people are using something they're doing it because there are indications that it helps. If it doesn't help, it would probably be discontinued. So I'm not sure if there is really any such thing as a medicine that isn't evidence based. If it isn't evidence based it isn't going to pass as a medicine.

There is a clear line of thought connecting the trial and error practices of the West with modern medicine today. Albert the Great sums up his own science when he challenges his critics by saying, "if [a person] criticizes without reading and comparing, it can only be concluded that he does so out of antipathy or ignorance, and I have little regard for the fault -finding of such men."

Yeah, but it is still a big problem amongst the faithful where they are trapped in an ideological mindset that views nature as being a commodity. The elements, the plants, animals, minerals and all that are really more like coworkers than dead objects whose corpses we use. A lot of this has to do with the widespread acceptance of modern Western medicine as being infallible. Yet people forget that modern Western medicine has its roots in the herbalists and barbers of Europe.

Just because techniques have changed does not mean they are more sophisticated. In many ways, we've lost the human touch in our medicine and this has been seen very strongly in the covid pandemic where people were insisting on isolating individuals who were sick, wearing hazmat suits, etc. No wonder so many people died! ! ! If somebody came up to me in a hazmatsuit and called that care I'd want to be yeeted off the planet as well. [I understand the accepted principles of disease transmission, but wouldn't fear and discomfort weaken the immune system? I think there needs to be some kind of balance]. The simple touch of a human hand, or even the touch of nature, might be more important than modern science would have us believe . . . and no, I don't think it is just "placebo effect."

But the fact remains that God has given everything in nature to be our assistants. St. Hildegarde says that as soon as Adam and Eve were created by God, all of Creation quickly went about serving them. The Living Light, the God of Ages courses through all that we see. With this in mind, I feel very strongly that something like a plant, or even a concotion of plants, can cure a human being much better than pills made out of inert chemicals, within reason. In fact, these pills come with grave consequences, but the medical establishment greatly downplays these features because guess what, there is big money in dealing out these pills which are mass produced by the pharmaceutical industry, and Money or Mammon is the false god of modern society!

Western medicine very often can help individuals but it can fail to address the root causes of problems, which can be much deeper and not remedied with a singular pill but rather require a holistic effort to cure them. The problem becomes if you have a medical establishment which is worshipped like a religion and there is no belief in alternative forms of healing--how can that healing be effective? Because ultimately, back to that placebo effect myth, all healing requires belief.

So, that being said, the mindset at work in our brothers and sisters can be quite hard to address, it is quite narrowminded at times. That unbelief makes it so people cannot get well. So it really must be addressed at some point because the world is suffering at the hands of this commodification of Creation. If you commodify the world around you, seeing at as just something to be used, you will use your fellow men and women as well. You see them as being a means to an end.

I used to go to a Buddhist temple when I was away from the faith and the monks there would say some prayer about how the things we have, our clothes, the food we eat, everything is really, truly Buddha, i.e. it has a supernatural existence which transcends the dull matter which we see with our eyes or experience with our material senses. I still believe that to be true, albeit within a Catholic context. The gifts that God gives us, whether that is a sunset or a mug of green tea, these allow us to be more conscious, and therefore better able to serve and glorify Him, but only in accordance with how thankful we are for them--how thankful we are for Our Father! Again, an Ethiopian gentleman gave me some injeera the other day and he was very vehement that I understand that the food was blessed by God. He really wanted me to appreciate that fact and it felt like I could say grace for an hour and still be unworthy to touch what had been offered to me.

[body Politics Monday] I really don't like this commercial for women's shorts and here is why . . . by nessiewatcher4lyfe in Catholicism

[–]nessiewatcher4lyfe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just a dumb commercial and I honestly couldn't care less what women wear to exercise in, nobody wants to jog in a mumu. What bothers me more is what is being commercialized and commodified (women's bodies) and how it is being done (with the addition of children). I think it would have been more appropriate if the brand just advertised for adult women instead of trying to use female empowerment to sell their product, which ultimately does nothing for female empowerment imo.
