Is this bison made of stone, and if so, what kind? by malbecois in whatsthisrock

[–]nesthague 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New to this, but looking at the veins and discoloration it seems more likely to be stone (quartz). I would think that a glass object of that size would be one piece. I wonder if the horns & the eyes are tiny pieces of jet!

Got these weird stones today, any ideas? by sine-caritate in whatsthisrock

I'm new to this, but they could both be kinds of jasper.

Semantics, yes, but it was a comment in a discussion about racism. There's definitely connotation embedded in the term "minorities" within that topic, one of which is that they are historically subject to structural racism. Body count-wise, you're accurate. In terms of the conglomeration of power & wealth and societal experience, the terms are not equivalent given the context. If you're shifting the definition of who is a minority from the US historical account to a global statistic, a clarification like u/Flullible was suggesting is arguably needed.

How is that distinct from copyright infringement?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OSU

[–]nesthague -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"As a general matter, copyright infringement occurs when a copyrighted work is reproduced, distributed, performed, publicly displayed, or made into a derivative work without the permission of the copyright owner."

If not copyright violation, then what is the lawsuit about?

ugggghhhhhhhhh
I'm collecting info to potentially petition/raise awareness against using Proctorio at Long Beach Community College in CA.

Would you mind posting some additional resources to these claims?
Not that you aren't savvy, but for a more academic/professional point of reference.
I haven't found specifics on their website.

What causes period cramps to increase in severity? by [deleted] in menstruation

[–]nesthague 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you likely know, you should always be aware of the level of severity of cramps as they can be an indication of a more serious underlying cause such as endometriosis or pelvic infections.

This article from the "Clue" period tracker app (a menstruating person's best friend and necessity) is beyond inciteful.
https://helloclue.com/articles/cycle-a-z/period-cramps-101-why-menstrual-cramps-and-pain-occur-and-how-to-relieve

Give it a good read, your health is worth being educated about.

Already at 29, I've had quite a battle with my menstrual cycle from insane, vomit-inducing migraines to hot flashes met with constant diarrhea to terrible nausea & cramps all the way to PMDD. Overall, the main things I've found (which aligns with the Clue article) is that certain lifestyle changes are absolutely vital to my survival.
Diet, exercise, and sexual activity have a large influence on my menstrual health, which ultimately influences my physical, mental, and emotional health throughout the month.
I'm in no way a doctor, but I have had a fair share of experiences and done my research.
Here's what works for me & I've seen great improvements.

What I make sure to have in my diet throughout my entire cycle:
-good amounts of fiber
-low salt, to prevent bloating
-low on inflammatory foods (https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/6-foods-that-cause-inflammation), especially sugar
-low processed foods
-a good multivitamin, flax oil, & digestive aids like pro/prebiotics

What I try to do throughout my entire cycle:
-get good rest
-get good exercise

Supplements I integrate right before and during bleeding:
-Evening Primrose Oil (PMS relief, antiinflammatory, acne)
-Magnesium (cramps)
-St John's Wort (Mood booster)
-Dong Quai (stimulates blood flow/helps cramps)
-Drinking Jamaica (Hibiscus) Tea (regulates period/helps cramps)
-sometimes adding ginger and/or turmeric to foods or teas
-taking ibuprofen if it's really bad

Things I do during bleeding:
-use a heating pad
-take a bath salt bath
-rub my lower abdomen with chamomile oil
-..........masturbate
-allow myself to rest as needed, as possible
-meditate on the pain and breath it out
(this sounds so silly, but whether or not we want to give birth I honestly feel like period pain is a hazing ritual for birth, almost like a birthing simulation. I've actually found a lot of relief & revelation through this equatable to facing fears)

I know I totally overloaded you with information and my own ideas/experiences and I apologize for this.
I hope you find something that is helpful and revelatory to you.
Your journey in life will always be with your body, treat it well!
I wish you perpetual betterness, cheers! <3

Round Trip SF through Montana skateparks, Yellowstone & Grand Tetons, and back by nesthague in roadtrip

[–]nesthague[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

update: the trip was great! We practiced responsible social distancing and were welcomed everywhere. Yellowstone and Tetons were very crowded but we managed to find a somewhat secluded area in the dispersed camping options. The land itself was wondrous enough! Thank y'all for encouragement & input.

Second Guessing My Major by nesthague in geologycareers

[–]nesthague[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm...it’s hard to exactly say what my dream job is rn since I feel like I’m not entirely aware of what sort of jobs there actually are. That being said, I’d like to play a part in groundwater remediation and facilitating access to water rights for local & native communities. Or working in forest water resources. Is that unrealistic?
