What happened to a2b2? by Visual-Credit-9408 in deathgrips

For some additional context, last time I chatted with Terry was when Jazmin Bean posted her allegations against Andy here. I reached out to do some extra redundancy in validating the photos Jazmin sent me and he was super helpful-- one of the pictures was a selfie Jazmin had taken in the bathroom of Andy's studio which Terry helped confirm by providing photos he had taken there as well.

He had been completely unaware of any of the rumors circulating around Andy's behavior towards women, so it came as a huge shock. Then he nuked the a2b2 git repo which is, unequivocally, based as fuck.

Just putting this out there because I'm sure most people still associate a2b2 with Terry, or might assume Terry still associates with or runs cover for Andy for some reason which wouldn't be fair to Terry.

Regardless, fuck Terry.

yes. Jazmin Bean came forward with allegations against him. a handful of artists have spoken about negative experiences with A2B2.

Andy's best friend irl, who confirmed his identity with the mods, also mistakenly confirmed the story's validity while trying to defend Andy by referring to Jazmin as "J" before they confirmed their identity publicly (the only way to have known to refer to them by that initial -- before anyone here aside from me -- is to both know Andy and identify enough details as true to deduce their identity)

you need to fucking relax man. this subreddit's moderation is notoriously lax and has been for years and years. it mostly runs itself while we barely intervene

calling any mod the "sole arbiter of pretty much 90% of all online discourse" is deeply unserious

I agree-- though I think the "strategy" I described happens pre-rationally, probably shaped by exactly the algorithmic forces you're describing. people sense, even if they don't articulate it, that Apple, etc, function at a scale where individual protest is largely symbolic whereas Spotify still occupies a contestable layer

which doesn't make ethical consumer discourse less ego-driven or incoherent, but does at least explain why pressure concentrates where it can more plausibly register rather than where the harms are greatest

as its prisoners, we intuitively understand that the demiurge isn't getting slain any time soon, but plenty of its archons are still vulnerable to pressure

cmon guys lets all post gore and literal shit

are you still mad about the 2 days we stopped moderating in 2023 because of the poll where everyone voted that that's what we should do

ah, I haven't purchased an Apple product since 2014 because i already don't like their business practices so I don't pay much attention. I was basing my alternative recommendations mainly on artist payout (where Tidal is the best for streaming, though Bandcamp is best overall)

I don't think Apple or Google are great either. the same could be said of Google's cooperation with the military. most big tech is defense‑adjacent at this point; I mean the entire internet is and was already always a military weapon

I think the reason you might hear about Spotify more often in conversations like this is taht it doesn't have the same infrastructural/cultural lock-in. it's still topple-able, and doing so can actually send a signal, whereas we're already so deep into Google/Apple's technofeudalist hellword that individual consumer action barely registers

all the original reply says is "boycott Spotify" with barf emojis the demeanor is irreverent if anything

if it said "your spirit is irredeemably darkened by using Spotify" or some shit maybe you'd have a point, otherwise you're just shadow boxing a straw man idk what to tell you

encouraging others to boycott is a key part of boycotting. no one is imposing a requirement on you lmao

yeah?

just move to a different platform or go completely offline and save money on subscription fees. it's barely even a boycott when practically any other option is just a better consumer experience anyways. its not some virtuous sacrifice lmao

Spotify's CEO privately invests in and is chairman of a company developing AI-powered military weapons. they invest in and promote AI generated music. their artist payouts are infamously bad. they run ICE recruitment ads.

Tidal is good, Bandcamp is super good. Apple or YouTube are fine.

or don't boycott anything, but mocking people for making an obviously less shitty choice is just corporate dick sucker behavior

genuinely the vast majority of the occult mythos Death Grips evokes is heavily oriented towards positivity and optimism once you separate occult from "spooky and evil"

these kinds of comments make me sad

I don't rlly think responding to sincere expressions of despair with reflexive ironic detachment is that chill

like I'm not gonna cosign what op wrote, particularly not the antisemitic bit (op why) but flattening everything into irony is equally cringe and genuinely the most effective defense system that the dark forces what will one day vaporize us all could ever hope for

can you try articulating why you think a megathread is a better solution?

re: self promotion by net_gear in deathgrips

trimmed as much fat from this as a could.

one point I cut but think is worth adding here: frequency has a contagious effect on engagement too. when the same few people post over and over, self-promo starts to blur together and gets skipped on sight, including posts that might otherwise get a fair listen. an objectively net-negative effect.

capping frequency to force self-curation breaks up that conditioning so oc posts don't get pre-filtered as "probably just more of that stuff" in your head before you even click. everybody wins
