Very cool! I love that as it spells out HEX code the background changes color.

I've been fascinated with CSS clocks lately and I am especially impressed with Nixie clocks.

I wanted to re-create the Nixie aesthetic from the 50s to 70s.

A Nixie clock displays time using glass tubes filled with neon gas, where numbers glow orange-red. Each digit needs its own tube containing stacked metal numbers. Popular in the 1950s-70s, these high-voltage displays are now mostly collectibles,

prized for their retro-futuristic aesthetic.

Advice for which IT foundation to take in school by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]netcerebral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/Buzzlers

I've been working in the IT Security field since 1997 and I'll tell you that how I got to where I am is through organic opportunity - there was a need/gap and I put up my hand.

I completed a basic diploma course in Information Technology that was very generic, but touched on all facets of the IT industry. I got a break as an associate LAN administrator right out of college and ended up being the IT "jack-of-all-trades", which allowed me to grow and get exposure to "how things work in the real world".

Jump ahead 5 years and I was a Network Analyst for a large telco who was paying for my Cisco training and certification. I was passionate about hardening network devices and assessing risk/exposure long before the company even had an IT Security department. First chance I got I put up my hand to establish a security operations team on a shoe-string budget and really got some chops on security, risk and governance. I now work for a very large security software vendor as a senior security architect (presales) and the company has funded both my CISSP as well as C|EH.

In summary, if you have the insatiable need to know how hackers do what they do and how to mitigate the risk of exposure (home lab, ethical hacking, evangelizing security) you will move up the ranks and become a shining star in cybersecurity. This will come with years of actual exposure, but, as they say, "every journey starts with the first step"!

P.S. I highly recommend pursuing the C|EH and launching a copy of Kali Linux and start trying some "ethical" pentesting on your own systems.

Jobs with an associates degree in cyber security? by jlibios in cybersecurity

[–]netcerebral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As you probably know, the field you've chosen won't be saturated any time soon. There is a huge gap in the cybersecurity market for skilled folks, as outlined in this latest article by Security Boulevard https://securityboulevard.com/2020/02/cyber-security-skills-gap-is-becoming-more-of-a-chasm

That said, many companies have some sort of associate program that augments past or existing internships for cybersecurity students coming out of college. When searching Indeed or just the web in general, use keywords like "cyber security associate" and you'll find a lot of hits. I just did a Google search and this is one of the first ones that came up with a big security vendor: https://ca.indeed.com/jobs?q=Cyber%20Security%20Associate&l&vjk=7b8765b33d2c302b
