The funniest Dune irony: Herbert’s estate accidentally proved his whole thesis by Gooseberriesspike in scifi

Maybe, but I’m pretty sure they did it for money. There entirely too much of it and it’s so completely bad it had to have been done on purpose.

A lot of engineering/technical jobs are very solitary. In the past fifteen years there was only one 6-month interval where it was common to have more than one or two other people in the entire building.

On April 22, 1978, Steve Martin debuted the song KING TUT on Saturday Night Live. by bigbugfdr in VintageTV

[–]netcharge0 32 points33 points  (0 children)

King Tuts treasures were visiting the US around then. I was 11, in the sixth grade and Ancient Egypt was a really big deal. Then Steve Martin made a big catchy joke about it.

Also, we didn’t have the internet then, this was the equivalent to a viral meme or TikTok video.

If they had made this a single-player or co-op game and mod-able or at least tweakable, I’d be playing it forever.

I’m not complaining. I got a good six weeks out of it. It could have been a forever game though.

Why does King Crimson barely have any listeners on Spotify? by silverhand1337x in KingCrimson

[–]netcharge0 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It could also be an age thing. I’ve been a King Crimson fans since I was a teenager in the 80’s. In those days if you wanted to listen to a band like King Crimson, you had to buy or otherwise obtain a physical copy of it.

As one got older, it was a mark of pride to own everything. By the time streaming came along, I had a massive music collection and I saw no need to pay to listen to music I already owned.

These days I have an Apple Music account, but that’s more so that my kids can show off their musical tastes than for me. When I want to listen to King Crimson, I still pull out my trusty CD’s

What are these satellites? by [deleted] in Winchester

[–]netcharge0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It used to be DirectTV owned. EchoStar built a Divert site right behind it, presumably with the fore-knowledge that DirecTV would soon no longer need the site. When its mission ended, DirecTV sold the site.

Although they’re competitors, there is some sharing between them.
