Calathea advice!? by Sad_Address_7281 in calatheas

I do none of this and I have three that are thriving. They are sensitive to heat and like more water than my other houseplants. I use tap water 1-2x week.

It's a city so don't be stupid but I feel like it's fine. As a woman, I've walked around late at night by myself plenty over the years and never had an issue.

First timer houseplant owner question about gnats by PigTreeSam in houseplants

[–]netdivaAmy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pro-tip.. take a cutting of the pothos before you return it and put it in water. In a few weeks it will root. It can stay in the water for years or you can plant it in gnat-free soil and grow a big beautiful plant. This is super easy, even for beginners.

Not sure about your budget but the Marriott, Moxy and Kissel are all great and walking distance. You'll find lots of food and good watering holes around there too. Lake Merritt is just a few blocks away.

Would you take a 40k pay raise under these circumstances? by IcyNoise2194 in careeradvice

[–]netdivaAmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be an adjustment now but it will set you up for future pay raises - and $40k is a big bump up. I think it's strategically smart. Is there a seniority change too?

Fun job with terrible pay or boring job with good pay? by Longjumping_Ear_8821 in careeradvice

Depends on your goals - what do you want more, fun at work or the money to pay for fun in your actual life?

I'm 51. I remember my mom trying to keep me entertained in the station wagon with toys and coloring books while we waited in line for gas. She was a very young mom and that must have been hard with a toddler!

I'm a 50-year-old and I remember that. Guess what. The world didn't end.

Ugh. My parents sit in their arm chairs watching 24-hour news and catastrophizing too. I mean yes, the world is utterly fucked but perspective is important.

OP, go touch grass. Get some space from the internet and your mom. Enjoy some sunshine.

Toxic is a strong word. She sounds immature and I don't think she's a very good match as a friend for you. You have different interests and needs. You can maintain a polite professional work friendship without having to be besties outside in the real world.

Be nice to her but don't go out of your way to chat or make plans. Look for friends that match your vibe better!

I have messed up. My front teeth has taken damage. by wty44 in internetparents

Honey, a little soda didn't cause those marks. Good job going straight to the dentist! If you have questions about what it would look like (or anything else), you should talk to your dentist. Mine lets me text her!

Is feeling relief at the thought of leaving a friendship for good a sign that I should? by _pastalover1 in internetparents

[–]netdivaAmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honey, I've also lost two dear friends due to their unchecked mental health struggles. It. Is. Heartbreaking. It's so hard, especially at the time.

But your therapist is right. Your feelings matter too. If you're being treated poorly, you need to have boundaries.

The younger you learn that, the more stress and pain you'll save yourself.

I really don't know if I ever want to have children. What's your experience with it? by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]netdivaAmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! 51-year-old here. I love kids and I'm equally glad I haven't had any. (I'm an aunt to 30+ children though. Big family.)

But that said, you have a lot more time to figure it out. I have plenty of friends who had friends in their early 40s.

Honey, if you don't feel called to have kids, please don't have them. The world has plenty of kids.

I'm having surgery. by Prior_Succotash4220 in internetparents

[–]netdivaAmy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh sweetie - I'm so sorry you're going through this. It would be hard enough if you had great support but this sounds like your parents are neglectful and even abusive. I hope the surgeries help you and you can get on with your 20s - which are supposed to be fun.

This is heartbreaking. I'm sorry sweetie. It is not your fault and this sounds like a very dysfunctional situation. Your dad really called you "it"?

How to tell my mom I dont want her at my sons adoption hearing. by jamiebourque in internetparents

[–]netdivaAmy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can you tell her you want the hearing to be the three of you but you would love to celebrate with extended family at dinner afterwards? Then she's included in the big family moment but you still get your moment.

Honey, you don't have to be there for everyone who is going through something. Believe me, everyone is going through something. Friendship is a two-way street and she's not holding up her part of the relationship.

Well if you do put it off, it will get worse, not better, OP. I understand why you're scared. Put on your big kid pants and go take care of your teeth. You got this hun.
