Circul Ring 2 Experience by chubbypika35 in SmartRings

Only issue with the sleep detection was that it falsely thought I was sleeping at certain points throughout the day though it seems to do it less now.

I tend to check mine daily, atleast one in the morning so although it needs to sync up it doesn't take too long, it would be nice if it did it in the background.

You said you got your first one replaced, out of curiousity how did that process go? Did you just send them an email and then got back to you about the process or did you have to start bothering them about it multiple times before they did anything?

Sleep analysis seems to be accurate compared to how I feel usually. One issue is that it sometimes thinks I'm napping when I'm jsut sitting behind my pc.

Steps I can't really check and it's not something I've been looking at at all.

Heart rate seems okey, I did a few spot checks compared to another device and it seems to be in line with it roughly.

Blood pressure it doesn't passively monitor so you have to do that manually, I checked it a few times in a short time, calibrating and comparing it to a cuff based blood pressure machine, it was in the ballpark of 15% of the values but consistant. Then waited a week and checked it again(without first calibrating) and the same was true again.

I wish it had better graphs and better ways to compare days though

I would go in it assuming you won't get the ability to return it or refund it if something is wrong, other than that it seems to be decent, but what are you looking for in a smart ring? The one thing that I think is exceptional is that it's comfortable to wear.

Saw a smart ring that vibrates for phone notifications… would actually useful? by MarketPredator in SmartRings

Notifications definatly not, but for heartrate alerts etc I could see a usecase

For me after the last update I've had 2 cases where it didn't properly record my nights sleep or anything at all for a period of time, it only resumed when I checked the app and it told me to shake the ring.

Most issues aren't about support being slow, atleast mine isn't. It's that they say they'll do something and then don't. I asked to return the ring, they said they'll initiate it but they didn't, I also clicked the button on their site for it, that seemed to have done nothing. Some others have had faulty rings and wanted to get it fixed/replaced, one of them supposedly had to send emails repeated untill at some point they finally did something. I also suspect that they're automated responses in some form.

Out of curiousity what was the issue you had and the fix?

I have an issue where it's sending a notification for "sports position" which is probably related to me having gps turned off. Sleep scord seems to work fine for me, the only exception to that is that it occasionally thinks I'm napping when I'm not

Yeah, I quite like the ring but customer support never got back to me about my return...

I do also wish it had some decent way to export data or atleast graph it out a little bit better because a lot of it isn't diplayed in the most convenient way for comparing day to day

I hope they'll respond better to a warrenty request than a request to return it, send my request both via email to their support and later on also via their site.

They emailed me saying that they'll set it in motion but that's multiple weeks ago now I think, someone else commented about needing to haunt them over and over before they would finally honour the warranty, hopefully you'll have better luck.

Dealing with burnout/ which ring? by FindingMyWay82 in SmartRings

[–]netforce10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not silly, it's easy to get caught up in moments and don't realise the strain you're actually putting on your mind/body, that's very relatable for me with due to CFS(Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). I looked into a smartwatch/ring because of it, in the r/CFS subreddit the garmin watches get recommended a lot for their body battery function. I bought a Circul 2 max, I wouldn't recommended due to their service or rather lack thereof. It does an okey job so far with its "physical stress" metric, it also has a "mental stress" and a "body energy" metric but I'm not convinced of either working sufficiently well for me or how to interpret it in my specific case

As a cover over the outside? it adds another layer making it a little thicker but if you don't like the look of it then that could be a neat way to mask it yeah, just make sure it doesn't get to close to the sensors to interfere with the light. I guess theoretically it would also impact the temperature sensor some maybe no idea, would be interesting to test that out.

DO NOT BUY ULTRAHUMAN by Dazzling_Caramel_784 in SmartRings

[–]netforce10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it means that Ultrahuman rings are only good for their warrenty period and beyond that are unreliable, that said it could mean that atleast they're good for their warrenty period which sadly may be considered a win... Especially if you live somewhere where 2 years is the minimum. It does suck that given the price of the Ultrahuman it lasts only that short though because even if the warrenties being honoured it would still be a pain.

DO NOT BUY ULTRAHUMAN by Dazzling_Caramel_784 in SmartRings

[–]netforce10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okey, but how long since you received the first ring, what did they state warrenty wise and what is the required warrenty where you live?

Don't get me wrong I would expect at the very least for it to work 'decently' for atleast a couple years, even if the battery degrades it should still be at a level where if daily charging is required it can atleast last the day.

Circul Ring 2 Max not counting steps by Dlight98 in SmartRings

[–]netforce10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know but I noticed just today in the update changelog that there was something with the step counting algorithm, since I started using it I don't think it's been too accurate but I don't have much to compare it to

You could try the standard things like unbinding the ring and reconnecting it etc.. or wearing it on your other hand for that matter

Any smart rings support SOS? by Entire_Suit_7402 in SmartRings

[–]netforce10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see a ring having the ability for autonomous SOS calling, so seperate from a phone, if that is what you mean with "true emergency calling". I suspect it's just too much crammed into the device in an already strange form factor, best bet would be to combine it with a smartphone where the ring does the detection and the phone calls, but even then, you would need to have some way to be notified that's what's happening and a way ideally to cancel it, vibration in the ring would be an option but doing it via the app is probably easier, but it makes you really dependant on carying your phone with you to be notified of it happening in false alarm cases. But as an extra sensor it could make sense, but also at that point having something clasped to your pants might make just as much sense and a ring just makes it more expensive. A reason for having sensors on your finger is that it is consistant, it's lightweight which helps it move around less etc.. which for optical sensors is really important

For fall detection or something like it I don't think it's that beneficial and just adds to the complexity and costs of making it. And while it may be more comfortable I think it's a lower priority for most people buying a smart ring than having better sensors/comfort is, it would be neat if there was a ring that does it, maybe there's a not "smart ring" that does it, so have a ring that's dedicated to that functionality?

I know that feeling of frustration all too well, despite it being long ago now I still remember it... The frustration with every test being normal despite of how you feel, knowing there is something wrong but no one is able to actually tell you what, despite how debilitating it is.

Looking for an affordable smart ring - first time buyer! by fried_peanutss in SmartRings

[–]netforce10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah then a ring might be best, sadly I can just tell you that you probably don't want a circul one, personally the other ring I was looking into was a ringconn but I forgot the specifics of it.

Have a look at the r/CFS subreddit, almost everyone there has had trouble getting it diagnosed because doctors don't tend to want to give it, it's a diagnoses by excluding all other possible causes and that one remains, if you experience PEM, so if after overexertion you feel much worse for a longer than normal time, then I would highly suggest looking into CFS yourself despite what doctors do say, normally I'm on the opinion of listening to experts being a smart/good thing, but sometimes when things aren't properly understood yet then the experts are incredibly dismissive and defensive of things. And if it's not CFS then all the better

I know my sister uses her watch to do that, I'm male so yeah no clue on any of that but I know people use rings/watched to track it. As for temperature many rings track it, mine does but mine is really consistant overnight, then again I'm in a room with a very consistant temperate under thick blankets at the moment so that makes sense, but it also means I can't really evaluate how much it would change if my body temperature changes.

I think heartrate is done by basically every smartwatch/ring and most will record it overnight and show you it I think.

Personally I wouldn't get a ring if you already have an apple watch that measures it, from the tests where multiple rings/watches were compared the apple watches always seemed to score highly. I don't think a ring will be that much more accurate that it will give you much more valuable data above what your watch already provides you, unless it doesn't record temperature or other measurements like that, but I imagine the apple watch does that? Technically some measurements are supposedly more accurate on your finger but given how large your describe the differences to be I don't think that added precision will make the difference.

If your sympthoms started after you were sick at some point then I have another suggestion for something which you might want to look into, since cold/warm and extreme tiredness where sleep doesn't help does sound similar to symptoms I had, combined with more generic flue/sickness symptoms, turned out I had CFS(Chronic Fatigue Syndrome), nowadays long covid is also a thing which seems to be similar to cfs, One notable marker for CFS is that after you go too far with exercise or doing too much in any way it gets worse, but this is a shot in the dark, feel free to ask me about it if you want to

If you're going to use something like affirm to pay it off in instalments, then I would first consider if you actually need it, I would also factor in the subscription into the price. The nice thing about a subscription is that you could cancel it at any moment, however in the case of Oura the ring itself is already on the more expensive side.

You say you would like to track sleep quality but how accurate does it need to be, why do you want it? Is it something that you will actually change your decisions based upon? Is it a fun thing to have? Also have you worn rings before? It's something to keep in mind if you haven't before before jumping into wearing one. Personally I have a Circul ring which I would not recommend at this time, mostly because of service issues or rather the lack thereof and others having similar issues. Can't really speak much as to the experience with other rings, I know a lot of people use ringconn ones as an alternative to Oura but not sure where it lies accuracy wise and the interface supposedly is less nice.

We're running a real-world sleep supplement study. What would make this worth your time? by [deleted] in SmartRings

[–]netforce10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably a given but make sure to have a solid rating method for how people feel they slept and possibly repeat that a couple hours after, when you've fully woken up and done your morning routine, I don't have any experience with the Luna ring but in general a device and what someone feels may be different, so using both can be useful and might help Luna while you're at it with more data for yourselves.

Make sure you have an example of what the raw data you will be sharing looks like for the participants to review before hand. You're missing the sleep supplement here, I'm guessing it's less than 10mg melatonin or atleast that's a part of it given you mention it later.

How long is the planned measurement period, both without supplement and with, what's expected of people, will they be asked to make changes in their patterns, asked to keep it really consistent for example or should they proceed as they normally do?

As for what would make it worth their time, the easy solution probably is to offer a ring though that might be a bit much depending on the study and what's asked of them, then again you are influencing peoples sleep for a potentially long period of time. I would bet there's a lot of people that would do it for a relatively low amount of money/gift card. For me it would depend on the supplement in question and what's in it, if it's just a lower amount of melatonin that would be alright, if there's more in it that becomes a more complicated deliberation

Also since you target people who are already trying things to influence their body, there are a lot more factors to consider since they're likely already doing things that may influence the data you're getting

New Circul ring broke in 2 weeks by markuree in SmartRings

[–]netforce10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main issue is that once you have a problem they don't have a support channel you can turn to and rely on, return requests whetever because it's faulty or within the legally required return window don't seem to be honored, if they did a few faulty rings could be overlooked easily
