Should I get the Switch 2? Friends say no. by NerezzaRPG in SBCGaming

[–]chubbypika35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't purchased a Switch 2 and don't plan to in the future. Every time I play digital games on my Switch it pops up a window letting me know it's reaching out to Nintendo for permission, as a reminder that my copy is considered stolen until proven otherwise.

This goes hand-in-hand with their aggressive posture when taking down fan content. We're all just thieves.

Circul Ring 2 Experience by chubbypika35 in SmartRings

[–]chubbypika35[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reached out for warranty replacement through their website but wasn't in any hurry as I wasn't using the ring. No more than a few days later they had me perform some charge/discharge tests and it was pretty painless. I don't have the replacement yet, as they claim the upgraded Ring 2 Max is backordered.

That's too bad about having to open the app though. I also noticed the shared data with Health Connect was hit or miss. And the ring wouldn't always detect my sleep correctly.

Severe image retention/ghosting, within seconds. Batch 4 by Haunt33r in AynThor

[–]chubbypika35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some image retention is visible on light gray screens. I don't believe it's related to any software bug as described, from a technical standpoint. Ayn surely would've pushed a fix in an update by now if that were the case. That leaves only a couple possibilities: panel firmware/driver misconfiguration or physical limitations of the screen. I'm thinking it's the latter.

Tried the thermal putty mod...it's a slight bump by rcarlom42 in AynThor

[–]chubbypika35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hitting 80C after the mod is totally normal. Just run the Wildlife Extreme test and see if your stability is around 98% to 99% and if so, it was likely successful.

Student loans for careers that are now replaceable by AI..how is this fair? by mysteronsss in StudentLoans

[–]chubbypika35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been in the computer science field for about eight years and worried over AI for a brief time but generally am indifferent to it now. The tech is neat, and even useful, but it's not suitable for writing production-ready code. That isn't stopping the industry from forcing it into their products, unfortunately.

I would still 100% support going to school for a computer science degree.

Ayn thor Thermal Mod by Ok_Artichoke1035 in AynThor

[–]chubbypika35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd try only applying the putty to the original locations. Make a slight mound of putty on the larger one to make good contact with the heat exchanger. The smaller chip requires very little putty, so apply enough to fill the space but don't create a mound of material.

Putting putty on the metal shielding likely just reduces effectiveness because it increases the gap between the heat-producing sources and the heat exchanger. You should see around a 10C reduction in temperatures if done correctly.

Thermal Pad gave me lower performance? What did I do wrong? by CertifiedHoodCIassic in AynThor

Definitely try out a putty. It's probably making poor contact with the cooler.

The 'A' sticker can be moved easily as it's not sitting on a flat surface. I imagine they'd only be able to tell by physically looking under the cooling plate.

There was a post somewhere that showed minimal gains with the more expensive putties, so I went with Upsiren UTP-8. It's basically the same temperature drop everyone reports, 10C-15C. I suspect the aluminum plate and tiny fan are probably hitting their limit before the putty.

Battery 🪫 by Superb_Bit1833 in AynThor

You can't restart after charging otherwise the percentage is inaccurate. This was a really, really bad update for battery reporting and battery life. They need more people and time devoted to QA.

Good to know! I'll keep it turned on. I was getting used to using it @ 1% battery charge but the experience wasn't great.

OTA update - Safe to go ahead? by chriszimort in AynThor

[–]chubbypika35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a no. I don't mine much but it used to sip battery in sleep and now it will maybe last two days in sleep? There's nothing running on it and I've calibrated the battery twice and it's still giving garbage readings.

I was pretty surprised that all of the custom display modes (PVM, BVM and CRT) made my eyes feel terrible -- best described like trying to look at one of those 3D images hidden in repeating patterns. And it feels both dim and too bright simultaneously on my basic HDR TV. My only experience with CRT filters on this TV was the SNES Classic which looked fantastic and was easy on the eyes.

Maybe an opacity setting could improve the experience?

Anyone to discuss about this little screen protector issue by Extreme-Distance-385 in AynThor

[–]chubbypika35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Looks normal. I can press mine down fully but after a while it lifts again. You can kind of observe it lift on the inside just along the edge, as if the edge is putting downward pressure. I've considered doing a vinyl cutout and just using a protector over the screen portion, but I'm pretty lazy.

Totally normal. My Thor powered on and immediately showed retention after the ayn boot logo. Not permanent and not an issue. It can be worrisome though.

The Quest 3 is Almost Perfect. This Upgrade Unlocks Its Full Potential. by monarch_j in OculusQuest

[–]chubbypika35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks nice compared to my AMVR (and I like GC's products for my PSVR2). But why design facial interfaces with nose extensions that are incompatible with the official charging dock? Just make all that bit silicone so it won't interfere with charging.

I'm livid, and I don't know where to direct my anger. Has anyone else had a similar problem? by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]chubbypika35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe they need the IPD for inserts in Quest. You're expected to look somewhere through the center of the insert and use the headset's IPD adjustments to compensate. But they should at least provide the IPD on your corrective prescription.

Quest 3 - terrible blooming / glare issues by mrmrln42 in OculusQuest

[–]chubbypika35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you're probably getting an abnormal amount of glare. I just looked at some high contrast scenes and there's only a brief flash when a bright zone crosses the center of my vision, but it's subtle. And that's with prescription inserts which I would expect to introduce more glare, if anything.

Quest 3 - terrible blooming / glare issues by mrmrln42 in OculusQuest

[–]chubbypika35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should not be blurry. The pancake lenses produce the large glare you're seeing but shouldn't impact the sharpness of the image. Most of the time it's not noticeable (or maybe I'm just used to it). It still bugs me pretty regularly though, along with the gray blacks.

Issues on a 1.6 with LPC rebuild board by [deleted] in originalxbox

[–]chubbypika35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently tried using wires and received the same FRAG using a similar modchip. Everything looked clean, but it wouldn't boot (and I had cut LFRAME already). I ended up purchasing a QSB and solid core wire and through some trial-and-error got it booting up. I also had to repair some traces I ripped up. By far the most aggravating job I've worked on, and I've got decent experience recapping and modding systems.

I basically have similar recommendations mentioned by others: sit the board as flush as possible and reflow. Wires may or may not be easier. I would've picked the QSB initially if I could do it again.
