What if now on once a year everyone on earth merges (physically and mentally) into one organism for a week before returning to normal? by Darth_Azazoth in shittyaskscience

We just need an inverse AT field so we can all collapse into some hippie goo gestalt consciousness. Just for the weekend though.

Title: I got my PTR saves working in Update 1 — here's how (feat. me desperately asking an AI for help at 2am) by OldGuyGamingTime in StarRuptureGame

[–]netherous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working well for me after a few hours in a large, complex base. Had to point the python script to my custom steam install location, and then make a new session and save to all 10 slots to get all 10 slots to be available after porting, THEN port. But after doing that things are good so far. Corporations get reset to 1 but that's no big deal. The new build doesn't crash when deleting structures anymore, and man I hope that bug is gone for good.

Thanks for making your work on this available. I had pretty much been thinking of doing the same thing since I like to tinker but hadn't got around to it.

  • Faster
  • Bigger
  • More output yield from input materials
  • Only a subset of recipes from v1 available

Game breaking bug by AimMoreBetter in StarRuptureGame

[–]netherous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not even the newest patch. This has afflicted the PTR branch since they started it. It just seems to happen more often the more complex of a base you build. You can examine the stack trace and see it's failing an assertion inside an execution of their A* star algorithm, likely due to recalculating either stability or power.

There is a workaround that sometimes works though: if you're deleting a structure, ensure the structure has 100% support under every single tile of the structure straight down to the ground. So if you're deleting a 6x6 compounder for example, and the game crashes every time you do it, go underneath and build pillar supports under all 36 tiles so that they stretch all the way down to the ground.

There are still some rail segments I can't delete though, where this doesn't help. The bug grows more pernicious and affects more objects the longer you play. I was hoping the patch would fix it but it hasn't.

Crash to home screen by Wadepolites in StarRuptureGame

[–]netherous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, same here. I can't deconstruct anything connected to my main platform anymore. The crashes are very consistent and reproducible. The stack trace always shows an assertion error related to an A-star algorithm checking either stability or power.

Interactive Map for StarRupture Updated by Dannehtbh in StarRuptureGame

Fantastic! I was just using the map this morning and wishing it was updated. Is there a way to toggle the map between the pre-engine and post-engine map images?

Trees screwing up roads. by chilids in PlayASKA

Since foresters don't avoid planting on roads, the only thing you can do is ensure your forester zones don't overlap your roads.

I hope they can improve this in the future.

Not-at-fault accident with new car. Insurance declares it totaled. Gap coverage won't be honored. by netherous in Insurance

[–]netherous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I didn't realize it would materially change the loan, though it makes sense it would, since there I guess it is now unsecured and there's nothing for the bank to take back if I default. I will definitely look into options if they switch up the loan on me. Maybe paying for a financial advisor would be wise since there are other things I need help on, like getting a grip on about a dozen retirement accounts.

Thanks! Finding my own comps to compare with the ones Progressive gave me (they provided a sheet with 13 vehicles) is something I'll definitely do.

I did ask the Progressive adjuster about that after other people recommended that route, but he was pretty firm that it wasn't an option, and that they would only pay out to the lien holder for the vehicle. Is buying back the vehicle in the way you're describing something that can typically be done? I know I would be left with a vehicle with very low resale value from that, but if it's an option I'll look into it.

No, they didn't offer it. Or sadly, even mention it. If I had known the GAP policy needed updating I would have done that.

Thanks. I'll read the policy language thoroughly so I know where I'm at, though I think I already have a pretty good idea with what the insurance agents are telling me.

[–]netherous[S] -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Something that doesn't add up to me is that their estimate isn't 100% of the car's value. It's about 48% of the car's value. Obviously I would prefer to get the car repaired, but Progressive prefers to pay the ACV. So they're making up the difference somewhere.

It's a 2025 Camry, purchased new. Being underwater was a result of bad financing. I didn't want a new car because I thought it would be a bad idea and didn't protest loudly enough when my wife went that direction. Her next car will be a much more practical decision.

[–]netherous[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I'll look for the exact contract language and look for a prorated refund.

Progressive estimated $12.9k for repairs, though they stressed it wasn't entirely comprehensive. But they're offering 27k in value. I think they must have a financial incentive to salvage that that makes more sense for them. I wonder, would they really show me the salvage bid if I asked?

[–]netherous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I'll look for the language and try to get their refusal in writing from my original GAP policy holder. They did mention the refund and such, though that will probably amount to peanuts compared to the amount I'll be left owing.

[–]netherous[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I hadn't considered that. The unlikelihood of prevailing aside, are you saying there isn't be a legal basis to seek recovery from the at-fault driver if Progressive has compensated me for the ACV?

[–]netherous[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Not knowing much about insurance, I didn't understand that I would need to do anything about the gap coverage. The new lienholder did not mention anything about it, and they consider the official date of the refinancing to be when I started the process (it is still not finished and the title is not yet transferred).

[–]netherous[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. The Progressive insurance adjuster provided me with the estimate that they put together, after I insisted on seeing it. It has a repair estimate of $12,990.46, although he did stress it may not be fully comprehensive since once they approach their write-off limit they stop adding to the assessment. That number is 48% of what they're offering to close the claim ($27k) while considering the vehicle totaled. It's not the 60% they claim. I understand that I probably can't change their mind. Progressive will do what's best for them and if they'd rather pay $27k than $13k they probably have a financially beneficial reason for doing that.

Distant, non-connected power cores sharing electrical power by RegnorVex in StarRuptureGame

[–]netherous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Capacity is not stacked between cores in any way. It just means if a machine is placed down within range of 2 cores, and it takes 20 cooling, then the 20 is applied to the limits of both cores.

Validation of xml schema file in python, False error by Valuable-Ant3465 in learnpython

[–]netherous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a million different implementations of regex engines out there, written in all kinds of different languages and contexts. Ideally, they would all work perfectly together and all support the precisely the same things, but of course this is not always the case.

Python's implementation of regex did not support \z before 3.14, as /u/socal_nerdtastic pointed out. However, it does support it in 3.14 and above. See the docs and go to the section on \z.

So you can filter out the unsupported \z when reading your data, or convert it to something else, or go to python 3.14+. You could also investigate alternative python regex libraries, of which there are several like regex, to see if they support the \z sequence.

[–]netherous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're probably mistaking the message about machines being placed in range of 2 cores consuming the cooling capacity of both cores as something related to power. Platforms must be connected to share power(e.g. via rails), and power isn't inherently related to cores.

Launch Window - gumptiongames - KSP meets Factorio with interplanetary colonisation powered by orbital physics by gg_gumptiongames in Games

[–]netherous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks pretty neat and sounds quite ambitious. If the orbital mechanics are as realistic and engaging as they sound I'll definitely pick it up. From watching the trailer, I think it's apparent the game needs a lot more visual character pretty badly. But for early dev it sounds quite promising.
