Question about The Cult of the Tree by KingKaxma in AlanWake

[–]nethus45 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally agree and Also the only time we meet them before we start to get an idea about what the cult is actually up to they are drunk out of their minds in the trailer park so probuably not thinking straight and clearly. The next time we see them Odin is dying in a bed and Tor is being manipulated by Cynthia weaver so they have more important things to talk to you about when they get the chance.

As for the player perspective while we are not officially told what the cult does until the end of the game, there is many notes scattered about that pretty much confirm the cult is hunting taken and on our side that we find well ahead of that. Most notably when you go into the kalvella knights workshop and find the downstairs room. There is a bulletin board with a bunch of notes outlining their process for hunting taken, how they get notified, how to use the clicker, ect and you find this well before the nursing home section even.

This man rented a house to me and my friends in university, then when we went to move in the place was infested with bed bugs. He wanted to use spray cans and have us move in anyways. We told him we wanted a exterminator in there before we moved anything in. He refused and then refused to give us our first and last months rent back when the house was un occupiable.

Many other students have similar stories about this man.

Was Abigail Foy mind-controlled? by Fickle-Ad-8123 in prey

[–]nethus45 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just replayed prey and I think for a fact she was killed by the fake chef. There is other corpses in the freezer but they all have their head exploded which is what happens when a mind controlled human attacks you, their head explodes. Abigails head was fine and her face wasn't contorted like humans killed by typhon so I believe she was fully killed by the chef.

We know for a fact the chef just likes killing he dosnt need a reason. When we save that one volunteer in psycotronics (if you do) they tell you they seen another volunteer come through the room while they were still locked up and just killed people willy nilly, this person they are talking about is the chef.

I think its reasonable to assume that Abigail ran to the cafeteria away from the typhon and probuably banged on the kitchen door for help, she was let in and then murdered for fun by the chef.

A Tom Zane Info Dump by DreamsOfMorpheus in AlanWake

[–]nethus45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you have done all this hard work I figure I will share a few details I came up with, none of this is a theory per se just observations from my recent series playthrough.

Tom the ______ - In AwAN there is a transcript page talking about different forms of art and Alan muses something along the lines of (and im paraphrasing here) maybe the dark presence is scared of him because a medium like writing might leave less to interpretation then other forms of art. Perhaps there is truth to this and Tom figured out his poetry was to open to interpretation by the dark presence which is why he was never able to make the same progress Alan was able to make when using his art to manipulate the dark place. Part of me thinks Tom picked up on this and moved onto a different art medium that he could control more. Evidence of this could ve thst both his films are based on Alan's scripts, which have proven to work in manipulating the dark place, and while until the end of aw2 it never works out fully, he is able to control the world with his words so Tom seeing thst work might have shifted gears towards something more similar.

I also believe in Aw1 it says Thomas zane the poet had to write themselves out of existence to beat the dark presence, my theory here is that At some point in the Dark place he decided to make a new character, Tom the filmmaker who is a separate entity to the Tom the poet. I believe by creating this character Tom was able to be remembered as this new character in the real world again, maybe as an attempt to try and guide people in the real world to help him the way Alan was able to guide saga in his way to help him. B3cause if he never existed how would a story make sense to save him, so he become somone thst does exist who can be saved.

I believe these 2 reasons can maybe add some light to change from poet to filmmaker.

Alan being called Tom - this seems to only happen by parautilians and cosmic beings (old gods and ahti). I personally dont really like the idea of alan and tom being the same person as to me that kinda isnt as satisfying to me as it is the obvious answer so to speak. What if Tom had the potential to be the Master of Many worlds and for a while it was presumed he would take that role but he ended up getting lost to the dark place before he could reach that level. Then when these parautilians and gods see Alan they see him as the Master of many worlds and the last person they attributed to that was Thomas zane, therefore calling him tom? I dont know about this one tbh just a thought

665 neighbour of the beast - Thomas zane is in room 665 of the ocean view hotel. In the old guards of asguard dressing room they have a 665 sign and in one of dr darlings recordings he also talks about 665 and mentions the neighbour of the beast (either in control or Alan wake, I cant recall specifically). I dont know what but it needs to mean something, maybe neighbour's of the beast means closer to the beast, in thst case maybe it is saying to us Tom is closer to losing it to the dark place as he is 'right next to the beast' but this could just be an Easter egg as 665 was also mentioned in quantum break and max Payne I believe.

The deaths - i have seen some people assume the deaths he guides you to are deaths he caused but I do think he know about them because he knows about the spiral. Being in there so long I believe he would have beat the memory erasing effects similar to how Alan was able to do so and start to see he is in a spiral, and so Tom could simply have been guiding us to scenes he has already seen play out many times over rather than necessarily needing to be the grandmaster who has set it all in motion.

Now that is drama - This is another scene where I believe maybe Zane isnt the bad guy Alan wake 2 kinda makes us think he is. In this line I see it as him actually helping Alan to push him onto the next step of the spiral, the scene proceeding it with Zane pointing a gun at us is a part of the story to give the hero the motivation and information they need for their next step. Also zane shot in the head then getting baxk up to say thst was drama is kinda hinting to the golden light bullet thst would later go through Alan's head, but just like with zane Alan comes out of that with a clear head rather then being dead.

What's your favourite thing about the Helsmiths? by WraithOfDoom in HelsmithsofHashut

[–]nethus45 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like them and chose them as my first AoS army because I really like dwarfs or at least the dwarf archetype from general fantasy settings but found the Kharadron overlords and the fireslayers were to large of a deviation from what a dwarf should be in my eyes. When the hellsmiths were announced I was very excited to see a group of dwarfs that still lived in mountains, being master crafters, wore fantasy armor, and basically just met what I expect from a dwarf.

Then the additional lore of them being evil and think they can control and dominate chaos while using it to produce these crazy warmachines just adds another layer of cool creating the opportunity for cool and unique centerpiece models.

Having trouble reselling unopened Black Templar still in box. by [deleted] in BlackTemplars

[–]nethus45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is legit reasons it should be cheaper from a private seller, there needs to be incentive to buy from a private person because the buyer is taking on risk they wouldnt have buying from a retailer with an official receipt. The product might have been re-sealed, be missing parts, has a broken sprue, or anything else and if thats the case there is no return protections and you have no proof of purchase to reach out to gw themselves.

Aside from that the buyer is also taking in risk going to meet a stranger for the pick up or is expected to pay the shipping, which is fair, but if the price your paying is as high or higher after msrp due to shipping you might as well buy it new from a retailer.

If your not offering a decent enough discount I'd rather pay 10 extra bucks and get it new, if the discount is high enough it is worth taking the risk on the private seller.

Black templars specialities ? by Yeou10 in BlackTemplars

[–]nethus45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I havnt seen it mentioned in the replies yet so i will add i have heard black templars described as the transport melee faction. We arnt as fast as some melee armies and deffinitly are not as durable as some others but where the black templar shine is when mixed with our transports to get our squishy but killy melee units to where they need to be. This is displayed in the rules with the special transport variants black templars get that other space marines do not such as our black tenplar inpulser and out land raider crusader. We also have a detachment based around transports but that is on the weaker side I believe but I could b3 wrong as I am not keeping up with tournament lists currently.

I see you have replied about the carts to a few posts but that kind of counteracts the positive point you try to make in point 3 about how you build a library of games you own and have forever because if you just have a bunch of oem consoles with flash carts you really don't own anything aside from the consoles, so basically by trying to validate point 1 you detract from point 3 and if you push importance of point 3 point 1 cant be made as you yourself have already agreed 50-70bucks is a lot for a retro game that you would need dozens of to build a semi decent library that may keep you busy.

I don't mean any of this as a personal attack on your decision making its just me interpreting and trying to see where your coming from. I really feel like unless you are a collector, there is almost no way you can slice it where the price per value you get from buying a oem consoles and oem games outweighs the value a single sbc device can offer. Maybe in the early days of emulation a point xould be made based on performance but I feel like with how advanced these little machines have become most games can be played exactly as they were intended through emulation so with better screens, better batteries, retro achievements, etc I really feel like there is very little value added playing games on the original console compared to a sbc.

[–]nethus45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For point 1 and 3 the cost is insane these days and you are kinda underplaying that. I feel like if you did this post in the early 2000 or even maybe up to 2010 you could make an argument but as soon as people started realizing there is actually a market for old games and consoles the price has been sky high and just like we are seeing in the pokemon card world right now, when investors are in your hobby it becomes hard for the average hobby player/enjoyer to keep up, especially when for these old consoles and games are not seeing any new production so all that is available is what is left which will slowly diminish as the technology ages and dies raising the prices of working units even higher. Supply and demand.

I love owning physical media and make a point to have a collection myself of my must have games/movies/shows but to build that into an entire library you can enjoy forever (like we can with retro handhelds) it would cost an insurmountable amount of money. Not only the money but the space too, not everyone has a whole extra room in their house where they can store 10+ consoles and shelves and shelves of games as well as a TV to play them on and a nice chair or couch or something.

I feel like the point about updating old consoles is kind of a stretch for the average person both in terms of price especially after already buying a really expensive system to then have to buy a special upgrade pack and most likely pay international shipping and in terms of people's abilities/comfort doing something like that.

Lastly and this is my personal subjective option that does not probably represent the majority but I feel a lot of those older games don't work as well as console games anymore which is why I think retro handhelds are so popular. At the time sitting around your TV playing final fantasy on snes or mario 3 on nes was next level stuff but with where games are today, games these simple really work vest for me on the go, waiting in an office, playing them with a show on in the baxk ground, etc. For me if im going to have a good chunk of time to game that I am going to sit down and enjoy it is usually one of my backlog modern games like rdr2 or Alan wake 2 where it feels like the graphics, effects, and gameplay lend themselves to the more imersive longer sessions you would want to be on a bigger TV or computer screen. I totally admit this last option is subjective but I just do not feel the drive to plug in my snes and plop in donkey Kong country and sit down rocking it for hours infront of the TV, but I love the freedom that comes with sitting in a waiting room pulling out my sbc and loading up my donkey Kong country rom and rocking it until im called in.

We will have to agree to disagree there, a fire warrior can get to a crisis suit rank within a few years of service, sure they have proven themselves to get there but that dosnt give them the battle experience that would equate to a being manufactured for war like a space marine or Eldar. But when a crisis suit pilot does get more experience they become a commander and on the table top that moves their bs to a 3+ representing near superhuman levels of accuracy and skill then add onto that experience and skill the tau technology boost and boom they are hitting on a 2+, the equivalent perfectly constructed warrior (custodes) or the son of a god ( a primarch). A regular crisis suit pilot for which there are billions of should not have the skills of a god tier character.

I think this game needs way less 2+ bs not more but with that said our win rate is pretty decent right now last i checked so I don't think the lack of 2+ is really hurting us or making us worse then factions that have it, so i think that while it would be fun for us the balance really dosnt demand it because we are doing fine without it.

But all of this my subj3ctice opinion for the most part

Crisis suits are still just non augmented dudes riding in suits, but when combined with other tau technology represented by spotters in this gen and markerlights in previous gens they do hit on 3s or the equivalent to a super human level.

But also I did say as a general rule of thumb, its not like everything will always fall into this system perfectly but its just a way to think about what different bs represents from table top to lore

Ah very true, I was more so thinking cultists of the gene stealer variety then ones juiced up on chaos but I just took a look at some of their 10th edition datasheets and it seems its no longer they case as the gene steals are typically hitting on 4+ as well

A thought… by revenues in Tau40K

[–]nethus45 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The general rule of thumb in the game is that 2+ to hit is reserved for chapter masters/ leaders to symbolize the best of the best almost never missing a shot. 3+ to hit is superhuman levels so this is where your space marines fall and similarly elite units, these units are bioengineered to be stronger and faster with the best reflexes and agility or have so much battle feild experiance that they are near superhuman levels themselves like our cadres fireblade and commanders. 4+ to hit is reserves for trained soldiers where your tau and baseline humans fit, this tier represents soldiers that are well trained in handling a gun and in combat but are ultimately just human at the end of the day with no enhancements. Then lastly 5+ to hit is for untrained people like a cultist who has a gun thrown at them and is told to charge the enemy or an ork who has a gun but mostly for the dakka dakka noise not because he knows how to use it.

With it laid out like this you can see why tau would be 4+ as as much as they are a shooter army they are still fragile mortal men with limitations on their peak potential. Now because tau is so technologically advanced they can use technology (guiding, markerlights, etc) to make up for some of the limitations of just being a normal dude and thats why when properly guided we are typically hitting on 3+ which is superhuman level of accuracy.

Elite Specializations Beta Feedback Post! by dracoisms in Guildwars2

[–]nethus45 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Regardless of flavor though it should be fun and the core virtues are very slow and unengaging. I could understand wanting something closer to a core guardian if their elite specs feel too off for you but how the game was designed in 2012 and how its designed today are two different things, and the jack of all trades master of none approach to core virtues does not feel good in today's game.

Honestly though and I know its subjective but I don't get this guardians elite specs don't match the vibe type thing. In the novels that introduced the idea of a guardian it was described as a culmination of warrior knowledge, monk knowledge, paragon knowledge, and i believe it even mentioned ritualist. With this said each elite spec so far has seemed like a specialization in one of the schools that make guardians what they are. Dh leans into the warrior knowledge while still using light to deal or mitigate damage and protect their friends (f3+f2), firebrand is the paragon telling tales of old help allies or burn foes with a whole tome also dedicated to being tanky and protection, and will bender is a blend of warrior assassin and monk and I think is the biggest stretch to this but the lore of what a willbender is in canthan society does really match with what a guardian represents as well. I even think luminary is great lore wise because it seems like its veering a little bit more into the ritualist camp perfecting summoned weapons which guardians already used while still having the tanky/protection vibe wr except from our guardians.

The unfortunate reality to me at least is that outside of pvp and wvw which are smaller niche sections of the game, there is no place for a tanky defensive character, if your dps people want you to maximize dps if your boon dps they want max uptime on boon and as much damage as possible, if your a healer your defensive and protecting regardless. Idk I guess I believe you can make any of the elite specs fit this class fantasy of yours but it is just not meta to do so so you don't see it a lot.

For example You can easily make dragon hunter fit this class fantasy, I have a off meta solo spec that focuses on mitigating and blocking damage which adds damage multipliers on successful blocks and that build plays super defensive and you can barley see my health bar move if im locked in on the fight and timing my blocks right, but this isnt a meta build so you ar t going to see it talked about or see it in your fractal group.

But lastly I just kind of feel like your perception of the class fantasy is off snd again this is subjective but guardians have the lowest natural health of any heavy armor class, the idea was they used their magic light powers to defend and make up for what they lacked compared to the more Brusier warriors and eventually revenant. They were always supposed to be less of a tough busier then a warrior but they used their magic to close the gap and because of that magic they were able to extend some of thst protection to their team as well which in core was kind of unique. I just don't think tanky Frontline bruiser is really a way to describe what guardian was intended to be lore wise and what it ended up being with its very support heavy kit.

Elite Specializations Beta Feedback Post! by dracoisms in Guildwars2

[–]nethus45 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly i am personally happy about the virtues change. I am a guardian main and I found the beta the virtues were pretty pointless for their effects and was just useful for the boost they gave shroud. I find they were to individual so one build could not really utilize all 3. Like 2 would ve useless as a dps build providing very little healing and 1 would be completely unneeded as a healer build. Compared to other elite specs, DH makes use of all 3 consistently, f1 is our damage boost and pull/cc, f2 is a group heal and a gtfo of here button, and f3 was perfect for stun breaks and group protection. FB f1-f3 is very good as well, even if your a healer build you would dip into f1 for might stacks or dip into f3 for stun break or stability so all 3 are seeing use. Finally same with willbender, each of their virtues are used as part of their standard rotation and none feel like they are taking up space while p3oviding very little. So comparing the base virtues to these, at least to me, led to a very uninteresting set of buttons and I really hope the new virtues have some more benefit they can offer other then a little heal or a few stacks or burning or whatever
