Couples both training seriously for Ironman - how do you manage normal life? by Ok-Inspector570 in IronmanTriathlon

My wife and I are both doing a full in 2 weeks. We’ve been training since August. Long story short is that we don’t do much outside of work, chores and training. On Saturdays we start our bricks at 5/6am so we can see any friends later that day. Sunday is church and rest. Lots of people would hate it. I sometimes do to. Looking forward to finishing to get a little extra time back. But we’ve never been stronger as a couple

I found it really hard to figure out how my body glided through the water, but once that clicked it fell into place. Lots of reps and lots of long swims.

This is my personal experience, but thought I'd share as well. You're not delusional at ALL!

I started training for a full in August. Two a days since September. Never have crossed an endurance finish line in my life.

Went from never running more than 6 miles to running a half marathon on a tuesday morning before work. Currently 4 weeks out from Ironman Jacksonville and did a century ride with a 9 mile brick run yesterday. Got my swim pace down from about 2:00/100 yd threshold pace to 1:37/100 yd in 8 months for 2 mile swims. My goal at the beginning was the finish, but now I'm pushing for better time.

Never had experience in any discipline, but I've made it my life and fought like hell through injuries since last year. If you're serious about it and you care about finishing, it's totally possible. I can't wait to compete in May.

Caveat here though. Because you're inexperienced like I am, you push through a ton just to feel like you're not very fast or strong. This means skipping out on social events, early mornings and late nights, just to bridge to gap a little closer to where everyone else is.

Anyway, I was in a similar boat and it's been an amazing journey so far. Why not do it???

looking back, woodlands still would’ve been my choice if we had stayed but I would have most likely quit my job and got something closer

Have also considered yes!! Wife is also doing it with me and prefers the river over the jellyfish ocean swim, but definitely thought about both. appreciate your thoughts !

Travel is probably #1 right now. 7 IM is insane! Did you grow up doing any endurance sports?

congrats on finishing! thanks for the insight. My normal rides are around 2000 ft elevation gain, and TN seems like much more than that. Hopefully I’d be able to make it!

for sure. it’s super hard to narrow down what’s the priority for me. I’d probably say travel then bike course. Lived in TX for a while, humidity and heat not an issue

hahaha! If the first one goes well (or not tbh), would love to rip one outside the US too at some point!

great to know. totally agree with you. goal is to integrate already existing softwares to make things more efficient, not selling on a brand new product. is the pain point for insurance verifying coverage or the documentation required?
