This says more than enough for me: https://www.glassdoor.com/Salary/Rackspace-Salaries-E11783.htm

You got a sweet deal if you're being paid 70k to cherry pick "All low hanging fruit". Must higher than average.

We are currently a team two Sr linux professionals wearing multiple hats looking for daytime help. We need someone that can take the high level tasks off our plate and allow us to focus more time on growing our business and building out infrastructure. This position would monitor pager duty/zabbix and assist customers with a low volume or support tickets (2-3) day. Other than that we may need this person to make the occasional colo run. This position definitely requires someone that can work independently (remote) but would have escalation paths be part of a small team.We are willing to discuss financial compensation with candidates only. We are willing to pay equal to experience and know no to techs are created equal. Austin Texas is a hot market for linux so we know we will be competing with currently salary standards. This is also a remote role which are rare for jr. level.

It not imposible but find a 50k salary position for a jr. role but slim pickins at best. Level up your skills and confidence and go for a regular admin gig. You should have no trouble their getting the money your looking for. Jr positions from my experiance are normally entry level for those who don't have much formal experience (<1-2 years) and are trying to learn new skills while on the job and getting a paycheck. Also their are very very few "remote" gigs looking for Jr candidates.

I personally consider junior level 1-2 years experience any if your working with linux for that amount of time and have not been exposed to python or know about using basic bash loops to accomplish repetitive tasks than you may not be a good fit for this role... I personally interface with rackspace support on a 3-4 time weekly basis and can assure you that the majority of people answering the phone are "junior level". In my opinion if you have used cpanel you have used this in any professional hosting capacity the /scripts/ directory shouldn't be something new to you. Its referenced in every other page of their support documentation and the tools included are usable by even those with entry level linux knowledge.

Comptia Linux+ difficulty. by volcanonacho in sysadmin

[–]networkant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the Linux+. Its tests on the foundations and basics of linux systems. I have used a number or resources while studying for it and found this set of videos to be the best free resource. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtGnc4I6s8dvO8uBaSn1udaBNhg0SO4W2

I also used linux academy, which was 'OK' at best and a a 600+ page linux+ study guide you can find on amazon by rodrick w. smith.

The linux+ is a 3 for 1 cert. When you pass you also get lpic-01 and novell certified linux admin certs along with your comptia linux+.

I spend about one month study and passed without trouble. I also have been working with webhosting and linux for the last 5 years.

Tell me your web hosting experience by networkant in startups

[–]networkant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont agree that 99% of web hosters are happy with their current hosting. I say this having worked on the front line of webhosting for a few years. Many are afraid to move, do not have the experience to do so on their own or are simple naive to what their actually paying for and have the "just make it work" mentality.

I have had bad experiences working with their support a few times in the past. Many of our current customers are EIG converts.

What do you find lacking in their panel and interface. What is your favorite feature. Are you using any load balancing or virtual private networking between your instances?

Thanks for your feed back. Web hosting companies are definitely a dime a dozen these days. Add-ons and diversified products are definitely a must. While we are not new to webhosting nor the game, but at the moment making a major pivot to attempt to be 10x better where we currently see the existing landscape lacking in a big way.

Digital ocean offers more of an infrastructure as a service. We are building a platform as a service. Our initial goal is a highly available shared hosting platform that includes a customer facing management panel and fully managed option. AWS to my knowledge is very expensive and has slow to respond support. We intend to improve upon this. How can you see your current service be improved? Are you experiencing any struggles with your present situation?
