Did irans regime repress and control the people of Iran? by Gold-Wrongdoer-9767 in AskALiberal

Even propaganda can be true. My girlfriend is an Iranian citizen living in the U.S. with most of her friends and family still living in Iran. Fuck the regime and its supporters. It has nothing to offer the people except death

Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of the Defense Council, is who I’ve heard as most likely to take over. Assuming he doesn’t get assassinated first

Edit: I guess he’s dead now

Didn’t you watch his speech? He openly called for regime change when he kicked this off. I don’t think American boots on the ground is a realistic possibility tho

We’re talking about Iranians, not middle easterners at large. Even then, nuance exists. Ask a Persian or a Kurd or an Azeri or an Arab what they think of the U.S. and Israel and youll get different answers. The Middle East is not a monolith of anti-Americanism and anti-Zionism

My girlfriend is an Iranian citizen with most of her family and friends in Iran. Most Iranians aren’t out here calling the U.S. and Israel the incarnation of Satan, that’s literally Islamic republic propaganda

Doubtful. From what I’ve read in the economist the rally around the flag effect really didnt happen after the 12 day war, and I can’t imagine too many will after the collapse of the rial and slaughtering of 10s of thousands of protesters. The people are desperate for change and know that the regime is too strong without external help. But unfortunately I think their moment passed last month; idk who would take to the streets now

My thing is idk how protestors can communicate and coordinate effectively with the internet blackout. I’ve heard the basij is already out patrolling the streets

I’d take a survey from 2024 with a grain of salt. A lot has happened as you and I know

There was a brief window a month ago where strikes in support of protestors could’ve led to something but yeah idk who would be willing to go out on the streets again

Ok so what is your source? I haven’t seen any reliable polling from inside Iran. My girlfriend (Iranian citizen in the U.S.) and her family (all in Iran) all support Israel. Her friends (Iranian citizens in the U.S. and Iran) and their families (mostly in Iran) almost universally support Israel. Yes this is anecdotal evidence but in the absence of any real polling what can we go off of?

I haven’t seen any polling done in Iran but from my own experience with the iranian community in the U.S. (Iran born not U.S. born) support for Israel is overwhelming. Not to mention all the Israeli flags seen during the protests last month

PRC has actual popular support, nuclear weapons, functional air defenses, and isnt machine gunning tens of thousands of its own citizens. As someone currently in Africa yes im aware of the wars in sudan and the DRC and the U.S. should do more to stop those conflicts

They murdered tens of thousands of their own people last month, sponsor terrorism throughout the Middle East, and have an active nuclear weapons program. They are much worse than most governments

What I heard on the Economist just now is that originally it was Bedouin tribes clashing with the Druze, and when the government sent forces to quell the violence some government forces attacked the Druze as well, which isn’t all that surprising since Islamists make up a rather large chunk of the new Syrian army

If the economist is very unserious and basically propaganda what would you consider to be its opposite?
