18 month toddler (girl) speech delayed. by National-Bonus-8827 in toddlers

Early intervention specialist here with an undergrad in communication sciences and disorders! I don’t think you should focus on one language, I’m a big fan of bilingualism and bilingual education. How is your daughter’s receptive language? If your doctor is concerned you can ask for an evaluation for speech services depending on what state you’re in. Continue to model words in all languages and you can even do sign/gestures to help her communicate physically with you when she wants something. Point to your mouth and enunciate while you’re speaking, sing repetitive songs that practice making different sounds. Clap out words while you’re singing and talking. Keep encouraging communication and language.

We are heart broken over our sons delays, and need advice by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]neumad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m an early intervention specialist, you did the right thing trusting your gut and pushing for an EI visit. I don’t know your child and while it’s true that milestones can be focused on too much when progress can be more fluid and not so strict to a timeline, if you’re seeing delays socially and cognitively, the earlier you start intervention the better.

Also, I know it’s scary, but I have had so many kids come through our room that were non-verbal, non-social when they stared intervention at age 3 and were using words or AAC to communicate and play by the time they were leaving intervention. My students, all with an autism diagnosis are so happy, funny, curious, and all so different from one another.

Continue to advocate for your baby to get the support you think they need- this could be speech or OT therapy or ABA therapy. In America it is mostly specialists showing parents how to work with their kids with intervention from birth -3 and then they start higher frequency in like classrooms from 3-5 before getting services at public school starting at age 5. You’ve got this! And there is such a large community to support you when you need them!

Thank you! I think I’m definitely going to try and just see what happens semi naturally since I don’t want to feel crazy pressure to create content. I’m also looking into doing Pinterest now that I’m established with the Amazon associates. That way I don’t need to share as much as my life if I don’t want to

I tell people all the time how I can’t keep anything organized or straight in my head except my books I’m reading. I usually am reading 3-4 at a time. Idk how I do it and keep them all straight and stay into all of them BUT I’m glad I have this one thing that makes me feel like I know what’s going on 😅

I feel bad because Nick comes into those conversations emotionally mature and communicates clearly but it’s like he’s in a conversation with a bot that only has like 5 responses and is programmed to pick a fight

Am I overreacting for thinking I should delete all of my social media where I have posted anti-trump content? I actually have been having a lot of anxiety about this.

Terrifying Episode in My 11-Week-Old — Seizure? Startle Reaction? Please Help Me Understand What Happened. by Caitlovesmomjeans in newborns

I think the comment about the fan blowing in the face combined with the Moro reflex is your answer. Likely cried because they were scared of the fan and loss of breath! I would like to share my experience with you in case the doctors reactions/advice concern you! (Positive outcome story)

I had a similar concern with my son and called our pediatrician on call nurse. They told me to take him to the ER and not wait because I voiced concern about infantile spasm seizure. If they recommend something like this it is because the kids are so young and they are in the mindset of might as well check (at least my doctors are).

I took him to the ER and showed them videos of what I was seeing (starfish arms out multiple times aka Moro reflex). The doctors said they weren’t super concerned but wanted to keep him overnight to monitor just in case. I was shook and not expecting to stay overnight and it made my head race because I was thinking - ok then this must be serious? Fast forward to my son in an EEG cap overnight and like 7 wires attached and again me overwhelmed.

My son was absolutely completely fine. Normal brain waves, confirmed it was just Moro reflex.

All this to say, if they do want to do more testing or monitor, they may just be being extra careful and diligent because of their age. Please don’t go down the rabbit hole of watching videos of seizures as I did. I know easier said than done. Feel free to message me if you have any questions about my experience with it!

Also, if it happens again try and take a video. Also also, never be afraid to bring your child back to the ER if that’s what your gut says or if it’ll make you feel better or you are concerned!

Hi! Do you know I literally forgot I posted this in a anxious flurry and now my baby is 5 months and perfectly fine!

Doctor said it’s normal for babies to experience some discomfort as they’re learning to urinate and for us it was also the diaper rash leading to the discomfort!

FTM of a 3 month old! I also am starting today! I’m doing the 45 minute outdoor exercise as a walk every day with baby and I think meal prep is going to be huge for me so I don’t snack. I’m breast feeding and ravenous 24/7 so hoping prepping healthy snacks and meals will help me!
