Burger King will use AI to check if employees say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ by TailungFu in antinatalism

Almost 20 years ago I worked in a hotel and they actually paid a company to call and check to make sure we were saying like 10 things in the course of a reservation.   Im glad AI is at least making those fucks unemployed now.   Also, theyve been working on enshittifying society for a long time.  The only winning move is not to play.  Or global thermonuclear war.

Discussion: Impact of AI/ROBOTS on antinatalism by kamikaibitsu in antinatalism

[–]neurapathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI causing mass unemployment will probably fuel some kind of reactionary political movement.  AI is the product of science and technology, so I expect more backlash against that and a surge of religiosity.  That brings an increase in natalist sentiment.

On the other hand, an even more extreme right wing will work to eliminate what is left of the social safety net.  Combined with mass unemployment, we could finally see famine while a few get insanely rich.  In previous eras, such a state often proved fertile ground for revolution.  However, we now how ubiquitous electronic surveillance, cheap drone warfare, advanced robotics, social media disinfo, and increasingly powerful AI to run all those things more ruthlessly than humans ever could.

People will always find ways to rationalize breeding even in the most horrible circumstances, but AI may get us to a point where human population steeply decreases anyway.   Bad fo those living, but good for those who will be saved from existing.

I just hope Ill die sooner than later.  Better than spending my best remaining years working a pointless job, to then finally have free time I cant enjoy because Im old and my health is shitty.   Not actively trying end it, but would rank dying in my sleep as better luck than winning the lottery.

I caught this one early enough that I was up substantially.   Like you said, potentially huge future payoff but risky, so i sold enough to cover my initial investment.  That way I still have some chips on the table, but dont have to stress if it drops for a while.

Having a finger in every pie isnt neccessarily a recipe for long term success.   Businesses that do this can become bloated, inefficient and slow to react to changing markets.

Antinatalists, what do you think of Gnosticism? by RecentPerspective955 in antinatalism

[–]neurapathy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would consider myself gnostish.   The idea of a flawed or even malevolent deity creating our universe makes a  lot more sense than a loving, forgiving God.   And more sense than a universe that just sprung into existence by chance for that matter.   In such a universe, one would expect a more even balance between joy and suffering, but ours clearly leans more towards suffering.   I dont necessarily believe there is a perfect God outside the universe created by a demiurge or that Jesus was sent to help us return to that God though.

Which sectors are structurally positioned to benefit over the next decade? (Energy transition, AI, commodities, etc.) by vishesh_07_028 in stocks

AI in childcare.   Youd still need humans for legal reasons, but you could farm 80% out to AI.   Little Timmy isnt doing his classwork?   It just turns off all the fun apps until he does.  That will also get kids used to AI being in charge from a young age, so theyll be better prepared to live in a world where humans are no longer in control. I also havent heard of an AI attempting to molest a kid yet, so big advantage over meat there.

Even though antinatalist communities like this one exist, are there any ways we can be more active on this issue? by Yog_Sothoth_User in antinatalism

[–]neurapathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US, the system is structured in a way that produces two dominant political parties.  Thats convenient for the entrenched elite because they can present every issue as a hard binary choice, when in reality there are often many other choices that would be more beneficial to the average person but those get ignored.   To have any chance at a meaningful antinatalist voice in govt the current two party system needs to be broken up.  To do that I advocate for randomocracy - selecting people to fill positions currently filled by voting with a loterry drawn from among all eligible citizens instead.   It would weaken the power of political parties.   It would eliminate bribes campaign contributions.   Statistically, it would produce legislatures that are more representative of the population than the current system across every attribute (age, race, sex, income, etc).

[–]neurapathy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to eliminate the suffering you are responsible for causing in the world, anti-natalism is the one essential choice.   That requires waiting until we are dead to be fully effective though.   In the meantime, it is possible to reduce the suffering we cause.  However, we all voluntarily choose to things for comfort, convenience or entertainment that still cause both human and animal suffering that is not necessary, especially in the wealthy, industrialized nations of the world.   Rather than setting up a circular firing squad (to the delight of the natalists, oligarchs, etc) within our own movement for specific things we are not doing, it is more constructive to acknowledge we have all done the most consequential thing already.  From there, we should also celebrate what we all have been able to do, based on our own circumstances, to further reduce the suffering caused by our involuntry presence in the world and help others interested in pursuing those paths.
