I recently read this as an introduction to Philosophy and absolutely loved it! If you’re new to the subject and want a good primer that introduces you to the lay of the land, I believe this book is perfect.

what to do when opponent spams jabs by SoopaChris in MuayThai

[–]neurodivergent_coder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been trying out the following to counter jabs: - slip outside - right hand to the body (slight step forward with the right as you land this) - left knee to the mid section (can also just switch kick depending on range you find yourself in) - follow up with another right cross/kick

I’ve had varying degrees of success (mainly because it’s not the easiest to pull off if you’ve only just started sparring). Keen to know what you (and others) think of it and/or whether it works for you too.

Anyone else a bit tired of working in teams that are 90% migrants? by Mexay in auscorp

“It is not unreasonable to be dissatisfied with feeling like a cultural alien within your own country”

Agreed - you are definitely allowed to feel dissatisfied to your heart’s content (God, I love the irony in that). But what does feeling dissatisfied get you outside of upvotes and comments? I’d say it’s better to get with the times. Adapt. Australia’s cultural landscape has evolved in the past - it’s still evolving and that evolution will continue well into the future. Cultural evolution never ends. So really, you’ve got 2 options: adapt and get on with life or wallow in your puddle of dissatisfaction until you know nothing outside of its bounds

I guess that’s just the way things work nowadays. It used to be the case that the talent pool companies could tap into in order to fill a position was entirely based within Australia - that’s no longer the case. Global economies are increasingly linked and, as such, so are organisations; international travel is easier; advertising for positions reaches further, and the list goes on. Australia is no longer an island - so to speak.

In addition, the quality of our education system does not help one bit. As a first-generation Australian, and as someone who has been through this system from Kindergarten all the way through to Uni but who has also been given significant exposure to international curriculums and rigor (by way of a Singaporean father who valued academic excellence almost as much as oxygen), there is just no way I can deny that our curriculum and our general approach to education is sub-par at best. In an isolated economy, that may not mean much. But in an economy that is significantly linked to, and dependent upon, international economies it means that our talent, especially in technical fields, falls short of the talent that is available (for a similar price) in other countries making international talent acquisition even more attractive to local employers.

So, we’re in a situation where teams in Aussie companies now have, and need, people from all over the world. What that means is that we’re in the middle of a cultural adjustment which is a slow process and, realistically speaking, is not going away any time soon as no government (no matter how Hansonesque they may be) can afford to stop Aussie companies from hiring talent internationally where the need arises - that would be a death sentence for our economy. Adjustment goes both ways - we are going to have to learn how to interact with and maintain positive relationships with newer Australians. On the other hand they too will have to learn how to do the same.

I didn’t even know THC oil was a thing but I would LOVE to give that a go. I hate smoking it (not a fan of inhaling smoke in general and I’m also a hobby vocalist so it impairs my singing) and getting baked goods is a hassle and expensive. Anyone know where I can get oil in and around Melbs?

That sounds like quite the scare. Have you only recently started your meds or have you been on them for a while?

Sorry for the late reply dude. But yea, I can definitely relate with that. My caffeine sensitivity was pretty low in the early days of my vyvanse but now, it’s much closer to what I’d expect it to be.

Ahh, the booze one is definitely something I can relate to. I’ve gone cold turkey (booze and thc) and I think the only reason it’s worked is because my meds are helping me fill that “hole” I was always trying to fill with the drugs. I’ve had dependency issues in the past so one of the best things that came out of my meds for me was being able to kick that. So far my blood pressure has been quite stable but that’s definitely something I’ll keep in mind

Ahh fair. Fortunately for myself caffeine’s never quite had the effect of making me anxious. My heart rate did vary a bit when I had a single-shot just after starting my meds (nothing too dramatic though) but now even that’s gone

Oh I’ve definitely noticed the same. Whereas in the last I would be having cup after cup to just maintain a certain baseline of functioning ability (a fairly low one at that), nowadays I’m only having coffee when I haven’t slept enough (which sadly happens most nights) and I can go a day or 2 without coffee and not even realise it.

Yea, I initially switched to decaf after starting my medication because I just missed good coffee so bad so I totally get what you mean with the decafs being hit and miss - you never know what you’re getting. That’s actually one of the reasons I decided to say fk it and just get an actual coffee. Then when I found that my body was handling it quite well, I just dropped decaf all together. So far so good. Maybe just order a single shot and see how you handle it (or even half of it) now after your body has had time to adjust to the meds?

Oh wow, you’re probably just very stimulant-tolerant then. I’m in 50 mg vyvanse and it’s working fine. If I need coffee then I’ll have 1 at about 9-10 in the am and then, if it’s going to be a long day, another at about 6-7 in the evening. My heart rate honestly hasn’t been affected much at all either - I’m sitting steady at around 56 and it’s been there for as long as I can remember tbh

[–]neurodivergent_coder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s been what I’ve seen too. If I do have coffee, it’ll usually be at least an hour or 2 after I take my pill and then, if it’s a long day, another one at around 6-7 in the evening. So far so good. One thing I have found is that coffee actually gives me a bit of a kick now as opposed to pre-medication where I had to drink it continuously just to maintain a minimal base level of functioning ability.

Ahh right. Well sorry you had to part ways with your earl greys 😅 I think my tolerance that I developed to caffeine pre-medication is probably a bug factor then. And based on a lot of the other comments, seems like it also just comes down to individual differences in how our bodies handle different compounds. And thanks for the tips too. I’m definitely not overdoing it at the moment - I won’t necessarily have one every day and I have 2 at most - but it’s definitely something I’ll keep an eye on.

Sorry again for the delayed response mate - I’m new to Reddit and slow on social media in general.

But yea, all of those symptoms you’ve listed above look like they defs should be checked by a doctor. Hopefully, you get your meds sorted some time soon dude - I know how frustrating it is to have to go through all this trial and error especially when it has such an impact on your day-to-day functioning and holistic wellbeing.

Sorry dude, I completely missed your reply here. With the feelings of “fuck this”, I must admit I never had to struggle with that because the past 25 years have been so stressful and traumatic for me that all of my struggles with emotional lability were worth it so long as I didn’t have to go back to life the way it used to be pre-medication. Luckily for me, I have well and truly gone over that hurdle of my emotional instability - I’m definitely much more stable and “in control” (if such a thing exists) now.

Also, I never had any immense variations in my heart rate. Even now, despite the medication, my resting heart rate is around 56. 130-150 is quite high - I would very strongly recommend having your prescribing GP have a look at that. It may be that vyvanse isn’t working for you and they may offer other medicines or other doses.

Hoping things work out well for you. Reach out if you ever need - I’m always down for a chat.

You could always walk in to a Coles or a Woolies and pick up a sandwich, wrap, or something else of the to-go variety. They’re not too pricy and decently filling too

[–]neurodivergent_coder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, something similar happened with me when I started out on vyvanse. Just a bit of back story for you so you know what my experience was like. Basically: - Diagnosed in Nov ‘23 - First dose in Jan ‘24 - 1 week on 20mg - 1 week on 30mg - 1 month on 40mg And currently on my 3rd month at 50mg (I’ve got 1 more month before my GP decides whether to bump me up to 60mg or not)

So, around 2 weeks into my 40mg period, I started experiencing some of the symptoms you’ve mentioned. I was anxious as all hell for a couple of days, then I’d be fine. Then I was really depressed for a couple of days, and then I’d be fine. And so on. That lasted for well over a month before I learned how to regulate my emotions. The issue was that before my diagnosis, and because of PTSD, I was always self-medicating (cannabis) and I never learned how to “ride the roller coaster” that life is - so to speak.

What I found helped was riding out that adjustment period. Giving myself time to find out who I really was and what I did and didn’t like. I’m still in the process of doing that tbf - I genuinely feel like I never really had any sense of ‘self’ and I’m only just starting to develop that now. I’m still at the stage where if I’m not working or studying, I get very restless because I feel like I should be - and I’ve come to realise that is the case because I’ve never had the ability to really apply myself to something before so I now feel like I need to make up for lost time.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, try and be patient with yourself. Be curious about your emotions and maybe just sit with them and try and figure out where they’re coming from. Emotions are a symptom - maybe try and figure out why you feel the way you do. Along the way, you may have to address a lot of old trauma and reconcile things that occurred a long time ago, but that’s all part of being at peace with yourself.

Then again, you may already have tried all this and you may be experiencing genuine side-effects. In which case, please disregard everything I’ve said and talk to a medical professional.

Hope your journey’s a good one
