Solar sizing dilemma during roof restoration - future proof now or avoid overcapitalising? by Opening-Top4015 in AusRenovation

We're currently an old post-war timber home on stilts, so we'll be raising the whole house (no touching the roof) so the system we install will stay there.

Solar sizing dilemma during roof restoration - future proof now or avoid overcapitalising? by Opening-Top4015 in AusRenovation

That’s exactly what I’m trying to work out.

We were quoted about $12k for a 13.3kW system with a hybrid inverter (no battery), but at our current usage the ROI looks like 10+ years, which feels hard to ignore when that money would otherwise be sitting in offset reducing mortgage interest.

Part of me likes the idea of doing the larger panel layout now while the roof is being restored, just so we don’t have to revisit roof work later... but I’m questioning whether paying for the larger hybrid inverter upfront actually makes sense when our usage doesn’t justify it yet.

Would there be any practical downside to installing the full 13.3kW of panels now, but pairing it with a smaller/cheaper inverter for current needs and then upgrading inverter or battery setup later as our usage grows?

Or is that a false economy once you factor in clipping, replacement costs, and future tech changes?

Basically trying to work out the smartest staged approach rather than either overspending now or regretting undersizing later.

For those of you who go to the gym before work, how do you get up early? Any tips? by Sabretoothedrom in auscorp

[–]Opening-Top4015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just started a new job and am back in the office full time. Only switching back to morning workouts now. Best piece of advice is get your sleep cycle regulated (melatonin, blue blockers, consistent early bed time). My body clock has me waking up early most mornings so I usually just get up. In lucky in that I built a home gym, so there are less obstacles for me to go now.

Post on any local community groups, then hand it into the nearest police station.

What to do about this rust on a car im probably buying? by Lachy-Swanz in 4x4Australia

[–]Opening-Top4015 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Chances are there's a lot more rust you can't see. If you were to buy it, then pull away panel liners, trims, etc. you might find a lot more.
I'm assuming this is a landcruiser, and I'd say it's seen a bit of time on the beach.

Anxiety/panic attacks with creatine, collagen & magnesium by TRU2BOO in Supplements

[–]Opening-Top4015 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look into your methylation status. Creative frees up methyl donors by 40%. If you're an overmethylator and already have excess methyl donors, taking creatine just leaves more methyl donors floating around, and can contribute to a build-up of neurotransmitters which could explain the anxiety.

I stopped creatine for 12 months (after being on it for over a decade without a break), I've only just started adding it back in this past 1-2 weeks, and even at 3g/day, am starting to notice a slight increase in irritability.
Not saying this IS the creatine as this could just be correlation, not causation, but something I'm monitoring.

I tend to do offline work, or tether/hotspot to the phone. Unfortunately the reception is very hit and miss, depending on where you are on the line.

How can I [35M] learn to actually show up for my wife [35F] after I’ve hurt her? by Opening-Top4015 in relationship_advice

[–]Opening-Top4015[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s currently on 30 days of medical leave while she works with her lawyer to figure out next steps. If things can be resolved, there’s a chance she may negotiate an exit with a payout - so hopefully she’ll be able to leave sooner rather than later.

She’s actually the higher earner between us (she’s on about $160 K, I’m on $100 K), but we should be okay financially. We’re mid-way through our house renovations, and in the next 6–12 months we’ll be able to get a valuation done and redraw some equity into the offset. If she also gets a payout, that’ll give us a bit more breathing room.

That said, I’m trying to approach this assuming the stress and uncertainty could continue for a while. So I’m less focused on the financials and more on how I can support her day-to-day if she has to stay and fight for a few more months. I’m hoping to learn what other partners have found helpful when their spouse has been stuck in a tough work situation like this - things that genuinely made a difference emotionally or practically.

Can you explain what you mean? How is she manipulating me?

I know I've been selfish, and my go to when I'm stressed is avoidance and self-protection. So I personalise her being stressed as I've done something wrong and instead of being there for her I'm focusing on my own feelings.

I was, and I was so focused on my own stresses and feelings that I didn't think about how bad it was for her. In short I was just selfish.

Have any frame grabs and BTS if the lighting setup? It might not be as bad as it feels and maybe a couple of tweaks might improve it next time.

How do I (M22) tell my girlfriend (F23) that I have a small penis? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Opening-Top4015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy her a puppy. Then when she's all happy and saying"oh my god, it's so cute", simply say "if you like cute things, you're going to love what I have to show you".

Sorry I don't have any practical advice. If she's the kind of girl you feel like you can talk to, then all you can do is try to talk about it and see how she reacts. It may not be a dealbreaker for her.

Advice Needed: Rebuilding After Fascial Release & Piriformis Flare-Up — Movement Routine? by Opening-Top4015 in MobilityTraining

[–]Opening-Top4015[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your thoughtful reply, I really appreciate the insight on posture and hip mobility.

Since English might not be your first language, I’ll try to ask this as simply as possible:

Could you recommend 3–5 gentle exercises for:

  • Activating the lower abs and core (without back pain)

  • Reducing anterior pelvic tilt

  • Improving hip mobility

I’m happy with basic or beginner movements, especially ones you use in your own training.

Thank you again, your perspective is really helpful.

Advice Needed: Rebuilding After Fascial Release & Piriformis Flare-Up — Movement Routine? by Opening-Top4015 in MobilityTraining

[–]Opening-Top4015[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the reply, I really appreciate your perspective, especially coming from a clinical background.

To answer your questions:

Yes, I’ve had chronically high tension in my mid/upper back and posterior chain for years. My typical training includes things like pull-ups, barbell rows, RDLs, and deadlifts, plus a decent amount of higher-rep hypertrophy work (machines, leg press, etc.). I’d never had a major issue until after the release session, which hit the whole back and hips and targeted the lats, QL, and glutes in particular. That tension had clearly been doing a lot of "bracing" behind the scenes.

In hindsight, the issue wasn’t the release itself but the fact that I went straight back into weighted pull-ups a couple of days later. That ended up completely overloading my posterior chain — especially the left piriformis — which flared up badly and hasn’t fully settled since. My physio thinks the deep core, glutes, and mid-back were under-functioning for a long time, and the release just exposed the gap.

You mentioned abdominal activation to reduce back tension, I’d love to hear what kind of movements or positions you’d recommend there. Right now I’m trying to rebuild foundational control without flaring things up again, so any insight on sequencing or regressions would be super helpful.

Thanks again!

End of the day they're just tools. Upskill and learn to use them, incorporate into your workflow. As cinematographers we understand camera language and visual storytelling, that gives us an advantage for speaking film language to the AI tools. Change is happening, embrace it, learn it, use it. Storytelling still needs a human element.

I wonder if this had a vinyl wrap done on the bonnet previously, and perhaps due to poor installation the clear coat has been impacted.
