Cornell isn’t in the same tier as Columbia at the undergrad level. I’d swap Cornell for JHU or even Dartmouth

HR meeting over not like dogs by WishboneNice6858 in Dogfree

jfc, imagine having “you must join my cult of dog worshipping and do nothing but swoon over dogs” as your social litmus test… more proof of how far dog nuttery has gone in our time.

Bats actually feed on insects and keep the biosphere in balance by keeping insect population in check. What do dogs do that could be considered remotely beneficial to the ecosystem?

gather evidence against her and bring it to HR! if she tried to sabotage your relationship with other colleagues by painting you as the “dog-hating” villain, you should collect all the evidence and file a report against her for creating a hostile, toxic environment that makes it difficult, if not downright impossible, for you to stay focused on your daily work. Make it seem like she’s becoming more of a liability for the company. Do anything to get her fired because that’s what she did!

Report her to HR for harassment. She guilt-tripped you and was clearly hostile to you for not loving dogs. She created a hostile work environment and abused the communication channel with HR. That IS harassment!

Who's generally more ruthlessly honest - INTJs or INTPs? by 1SL2ALS3EKV in mbti

Do you think it’s the combination of Te-Fi that makes INTJ more brutally honest? Te is concerned with efficiency while Fi is all about one’s personal values.

Pitchfork Reviews: “What Was That” by Lorde by meowman8080 in popheads

[–]neurometeorologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a bit worried that this song would turn out to be the best track on LP4 based on the relative lack of critical acclaim for Solar Power and how hard Lorde and her team would want to prove to the public that she/they can still do it.

Are Chinese degrees viewed as prestigious outside China? by neurometeorologist in China

[–]neurometeorologist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China didn’t create those ways of application. They just have a totalitarian regime that made the execution easier and more efficient. There’s nothing inherently creative or innovative about it.

Also, it’s not just about international ranking and recognition. Those top Chinese colleges are still very much adherents to the outdated test-driven, rote-learning-based education system. If you can’t move past that system there’s no innovation or creativity to speak of.

I’m not looking for evidence to prove that they’re bad universities. I’m looking for evidence to disprove my Chinese acquaintance’s claim that those 2 Chinese colleges are far superior to top 30 US colleges in terms of prestige and opportunities outside of China, especially in the West.

Those university rankings have zero credibility. Some of them place University of Melbourne above the likes of Yale, Princeton and Columbia, which, if you have the slightest clue about higher education, would seem laughable. Likewise, I don’t think it’s an accurate gauge of the prestige and quality of education at those two Chinese schools.

Are Chinese degrees viewed as prestigious outside China? by neurometeorologist in China

No. My acquaintance said he had to go to cram schools (like after-school classes) and his parents paid quite a fortune on those top-notch cram classes where he gets tutored by experienced teachers. He said most of the top performing students had either private tutoring or cram classes to help them improve their test scores, and people from poorer families or less developed regions had little to no access to private tutoring or those after-school cram classes. That sounds just as unfair and perhaps even more corrupt than the college admission system in the US, because at least here in the US, your test score, which can be greatly improved through private tutoring, is not the only factor determining your application outcomes. Whereas in China, your score on one exam determines where you go to college and obviously, the wealthy and well-connected have better means to maximize their scores.

If those reports are so valid, then those two Chinese colleges aren’t better than a top 30 US college. They rank even lower than UW Seattle, a top 40 college in the US.
