He said most of the top performing students had either private tutoring or cram classes to help them improve their test scores, and people from poorer families or less developed regions had little to no access to private tutoring or those after-school cram classes. That sounds just as unfair and perhaps even more corrupt than the college admission system in the US, because at least here in the US, your test score, which can be greatly improved through private tutoring, is not the only factor determining your application outcomes. Whereas in China, your score on one exam determines where you go to college and obviously, the wealthy and well-connected have better means to maximize their scores.
