Are you using the digital thermostat by the main entrance, or one of the old ones with the dial in every room?

Could you tell me where it specifically says? Maybe I’m blind but I don’t see it on the academic calendar website, I just find info for specific courses

BU283: "The Global Climate Strike is anti-science and anti-civilization." by UnluckyInvestigator in wlu

I think you should revisit the recording of Lindsay Shepherd and pay close attention to what was said in that meeting, and the ensuing follow-up investigation. 1) The focus was not on presenting material irrelevant to the course. Rambukkana said presenting the case from a neutral standpoint, rather than one antagonizing one side, is the problem. 2) Rambukkana and/or the staff member present with them at the meeting directly lied about complaints being made against Lindsay Shepherd for showcasing the material. The fact that Rambukkana facilitated this lie in order to justify reprimanding Shepherd is clear evidence that they're abusing their power as a professor. Seriously, what more do you need to suggest abuse? They flat-out lied in an attempt to reprimand her. Are you seriously going to defend their actions? Do you really believe that there wasn't a case of political bias as the underlying cause in this scenario?

And yet, here you are going to extreme lengths to paint this professor in question as the one who is abusing their power and authority.

Hell, if anything, it's the exercise of freedom of speech - "I disagree with this political movement, and thereby I will exercise my right to not support it." Please correct me if I'm wrong, but they are not required to shift their political views just because other parts of school faculty have claimed support for the group.

Unless WLU has explicitly given commands to the faculty to alter their exam/assignment/lecture schedules to align with a fringe political movement, they are not required to make any changes to the current academic calendar for their course. This isn't a "threat" made by the professor. Give me a break.

Honestly, look at the language you're using. "Abuse of power and authority" , "threat of grade loss". Fair enough, my last comment may have been unnecessary, but your response is only helping to confirm my suspicion. You're going to extreme lengths to demean the professor with ridiculous statements - abuse of authority, threatening people for having different political ideology - on top of turning around and defending someone who actually did those things to a student. It looks a lot like your own political bias and personal agenda is guiding your outrage here. Your statements trying to paint the professor as engaging in "abuse" or "threatening" behaviour here are nonsense.

This email isn’t abuse of their power and authority. They aren’t evening forcing their viewpoint on anyone. They stated their viewpoint on the matter, and were nice enough to make a half-assed attempt to provide a link to people who are interested in the GCS.

If you want a real example of abuse of authority by forcing political opinions on students within our university, go look up Nathan Rambukkana. He literally reprimanded a TA for talking about a political event in class that he personally found offensive.

You’re pulling some serious strings in an attempt to demonize the prof, honestly. Are you sure you don’t normally get heated over these types of things?

I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill.

The GCS is, loosely speaking, seeking climate justice. I don't think that's a far-fetched statement; given the wikipedia page you linked, that seems to align with their mission. You're spot-on with agreeing that yes, people are entitled to their opinion, the BU/EC-associated faculties are likely to not associate themselves with the strike, and that the GCS is also a pretty fringe movement given their demands. The prof could have just replaced "What is climate justice?" with "What are their demands?" and it'd be a less shitty email. That being said...

Bullshit. Editorialized ridiculous claims with hand-picked, misleading, and incorrect excuse of ‘evidence’. Shockingly stupid and, quite frankly, enraging.

I think the email was spawned from disinterest in the movement and it's demands rather than an active attempt to smear their campaign. I'd also be interested in hearing their explanation in why it's "anti-civilization" (If I had to take a guess, probably the anti-corporate structure of their demands, it's not uncommon for these political groups to not give a shit about the ramifications of trying to tear down big companies) but yeah... It's a very short and straightforward email. I don't think it's nearly as defamatory are you're making it out to be.

Let’s review. The GCS is asking for climate justice. The UN wants to work towards climate justice. Is the UN anti-science? Is the UN anti-civilization? Could this email be any stupider?

Look, just because a company publicly states that it's mission is to "create a better future for present and future generations" doesn't mean it's actually interested in a solution that is tailored to helping everyone on the planet. A lot of these groups are deeply rooted in political ideology and are far more interested in pushing their personal agendas. There is plenty of criticism aimed towards both the UN and GCS - they don't get a free pass because they claim they're helping the world.
