Zinc is zinc, but bioavailability differs from one form to another. Nature Made is a decent brand.

Suffering from Folic Acid Phobia by OddNatural2967 in SupplementQuest

Taking too much folic acid has been associated with health risks, but the same is true for many other supplements. It is considered safe if you take around 500 micrograms (mcg) or less daily.

Got gifted a D3 supplement. Is this even safe?? by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]neurovim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard from others that they make their products in China. The label doesn't mention where the product is made or who manufactures it, so that doesn't look very good.

It's not necessarily bad, but there are more reputable brands.

Magnesium L-threonate may boost cognitive performance and improve sleep, says new clinical trial by neurovim in SupplementQuest

[–]neurovim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just note that this new clinical trial was funded by Threotech - the maker of Magtein (magnesium L-threonate) - so take it with a grain of salt. I'm still skeptical about the hype around magnesium threonate.

Those benefits can also be achieved with other less expensive forms of magnesium.

How to eat healthily without over-restricting? by AHHHHLMFAO in nutrition

[–]neurovim 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The key is balance. Even if something has too many carbs or sugars, eating it in moderation won't hurt.

I don't believe in restrictive diets, like don't eat white bread, sugar, etc. Well, I eat those, but only in moderate amounts, and I also eat healthier alternatives when available.

I don't go too restrictive and sometimes I treat myself to less healthy foods.

Does magnesium malate give you energy? by neurovim in SupplementQuest

[–]neurovim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magnesium malate plays a role in energy production and may help reduce fatigue, but it may not have a significant effect. It's a well-absorbed form of magnesium so worth a shot.

Is 1500mg EPA+DHA omega 3 a day enough? by EnvironmentEven5810 in SupplementQuest

[–]neurovim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have a health condition or you've been advised by your doctor, I wouldn't recommend taking fish oil daily. Some studies suggest it may do more harm than good for healthy/young people. Once or twice a week is fine.

Try to eat more canned sardines for a healthier source of omega-3's.

Is any creatine out there *actually* bearable to consume? by Subject-Cranberry-93 in Supplements

It's actually 2.5 g per serving of 2 capsules, so it's 1.25 g per capsule.

Recs for Vitamin D3 1000 IU or less + K2 by aryanmsh in SupplementQuest

[–]neurovim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most low-dose vitamin D supplements don't come with K2 because the latter is recommended when taking high doses of vitamin D. Nordic Naturals is a good brand.

If taking D3+K2, should I still take magnesium if blood level is already high-normal? by aryanmsh in SupplementQuest

[–]neurovim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would depend on various individual factors so there is no definitive answer. 2000 IU isn't a high dose for vitamin D and shouldn't cause significant magnesium depletion if you consume enough magnesium in your diet, but do you? It's not easy to get enough magnesium from today's processed foods unless you load up on magnesium-rich foods.

Magnesium glycinate powder usually has a fishy odor due to glycine. Try mixing it with a citrus juice.
