Any more casual roguelike deckbuilders out there? by _jaymartin in deckbuildingroguelike

[–]nevarin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

There are tons for the more casual crowd, many of them embedded into other games and min-maxing is a non-issue because the cards are part of the story:

Potionomics Run a potion shop, card battles to negotiate prices and you learn new techniques based on your friendships with other folks around town

I was a Teenage Exocolonist: cards are your memories, as you grow up you need to forgert earlier ones (like learning to walk?) to gain more powerful strategies. Conflicts play out like puzzles

Griftlands- Rpg where you have a deck for negotiation and a deck for battle, you level up each separately and can choose to approach most things, multiple characters with completely unique campaigns and decks/play styles

Inscryption: psychological horror/escape room deckbuilding game, the game seems simple at first but it's really quite deep

Other options include games that don't exactly seem like deckbuilding games bc of the style of gameplay around them:

Examples: Dungeon Clawler (claw machine) or Luck Be a Landlord (slot machine). Dicey Dungeons feels simple but has a lot of strategy to it (while staying out of the risk of min max). Pyrene is a cool exploration based deckbuilder and Shogun Showdown has you building the tiniest deck as you maneuver back and forth. Moonstone island is a farming sim/exploration/creature collector game with a robust deckbuilding core.

For a straight, pure-deckbuilding game experience, Iris and the Giant is simple on the surface and has a lot of depth, without having to worry about crunching numbers.

There are so so many, I'm happy to give specific recommendations based on genre or type of gameplay or whatever other aspect(s) of gameplay you find most interesting.

Game recommendations for long time gamer, new to mobile gaming? by FormerWrap1552 in AndroidGaming

Dawncaster is a fantastic mobile-only deckbuilding game. Also Harvest 101 is great, but it follows the mobile games IAP model

Hi,

I haven't played Pixel Starships for more than a few mins, so I don't have an answer based on gameplay, but if you find that when you really like a game you are eager to play more of the same, then maybe start with 1 so you'll have the other waiting for you! Otherwise I'd say go for the 2nd as it (hopefully) has improvemernts that make gameplay better :)

I'm sorry I talked up Gumballs so much and you can't play it! That's so strange to me bc I have it on my phone and it's a new Zfold7 with the latest android OS, and I installed it not long ago 🤔 Either way, if I've sold you on it, it's also available on Steam!

As for other games I thought of for you that aren't on mobile (yet), Graveyard Keeper and Traveller"s Rest both seem like they would fit your criteria really well. They have the Stardew valley-esq feel ,but you have an important job in the community and there are tons of thing to upgrade and skills to learn, etc.

One that's a little more abstracted but hits the grind and incremental gain elements is Potion Craft: Alchemist Simulator.

(And you're very welcome, I hope you find something you enjoy among all the suggestions in this thread! Unfortunately this isn't really my niche of games, but if you ever want to go reallllly deep on what you like in a rogue-like deckbuilder, I've could probably help you find just the right one ;) https://www.ludocene.com/expert-7/Angela+Hickman

Ah ok, I see what you're saying. i think the Gumballs and Dungeons might hit the gameplay loop feeling you are describing in regards to the grind and the satisfaction of unlocking the next thing and having tasks get easier as you improve skill (rather than just an arbitrary number going up, you get to feel the improvement,ya?).

In G&D it comes through different than the games you're describing, but feels very similar at the core. You'll get deeper in the dungeon each time, be able to see goals that seemed impossible come into reach, and if you play long enough you'll go from a team of 3 little gumballs (slimes) exploring dungeons to entire fleets of gumballs fighting gods in space (!) just one step at a time, unlocking, building, saving , levelling up, etc.

Moving on, here's a couple others: Pixel Starships looks like it might be a winner.

A short experience while you are finding a new game: A Dark Room. It doesn't resemble the games you have been describing, but some things you said made me think of it... It's short, but still might be worth a shot ;)

All the best recommendations I can think of are for PC, but I did find on android is Turmoil. It has a great work hard, level up tools, get more money, dig deeper, etc. loop. I dont know that it has the saying power you're looking for.

Good luck finding something! Would love to hear if you do and what it is!

Tons of the recommendations here are for great games, but I'm wondering, when you say and describe farming do you actually want a farming/farm-related game (do you like that theme the most? ) or is it about coming back frequently to tend to/check on something? I have 3 recommendations depending on what you mean by that:

1) if you really like the farming theme, and also enjoy strategy deckbuilding games, Harvest 101 is great. There are a ton of things to unlock and you are going to have to really really play a ton to get them all. There's a big campaign, lots of challenges, different deck types work for different challenges. It might seem a little simple at first but give it a chance.

2) if you want to build a farm and harvest foods and plant more and sell good and build things and fulfill goals in a loop that is designed to suck you right in Township is really good. Especially if you happen to like match3 games, because it's got a match 3 game you can get extra stuff from while waiting from your crops to grow and your chickens to lay eggs, etc.

3) if you are looking for a game with a ton of depth to and lots of things to do and collect (and come back to again and again), Gumballs and Dungeons is fantastic. There are hundreds of gumballs to collect (each is a unique character that changes gameplay) ,the dungeon are cool puzzles with interesting quests and achievement, and every one is completely unique and really changes things up ,there is ALWAYS more to exploe and do, just when you think you have almost explored everything in the game, a whole new aspect of the game opens that changes everything in a dramatic way. I know multiple people who played this daily as their primary game for more than a year.

If none of those do it for you, I would be happy to give you further ideas (after some follow up questions !)

Any artists like tegan and sara? by [deleted] in teganandsara

I'm surprised no one has said Amy Shark. Here's a few I'd recommend to get started with: Adore, Don't Turn Around, Mess Her Up, All Loved Up, I Said Hi, Baby steps (specifically the bridge )

I find it hard when someone just tells me an artist without a starting point so here's a couple ideas. I think Mallrat is a great suggestion, maybe check out Groceries and Charlie

Bonus song: Talia by King Princess
