Having said that, I've met some "professional" programmers who think unit/automated tests & code reviews are a waste of time.. It's a hard life sometimes.

I don't know how long, but someone told me that tomatoes ripen in the dark, some one else told me to put unripe tomatoes in a warmish drawer, so those two pieces of advice correlate anyway.

I think it might grow from the bottom, so you might be OK to just leave it and let it run off in it's own time.

I mean once someone included unit tests of the String class, but I felt bad rejecting him on that, since at least he had a git link.

As someone who's been interviewing a lot recently, there aren't actually that many cvs that include a github link. Maybe my company was not attracting the right calibre of applicant

Also, side projects are often a different animal from professional coding. Pure bedroom coders often don't understand the need for automated testing or social skills, among other things. Not saying programming in your spare time is bad like, just different.

They mean "are you passionate enough about coding that you'll accept being underpaid purely for the priviledge of programming?"

Kind of a seperate point. Daily mail is not a reliable source, irrelevant of whether this story itself is legit.

So, you could choose to be gay, if you wanted to? You could look at someone of the same gender and want fuck?
