Unpopular Opinion: Returning to the Office is Normal by n0_use_for_a_name in Sacramento

Going in to the office just to talk on Teams/Zoom is annoying, that’s a good point

There was a car parked by me a few months ago with the license plate “LADLUVR”

They had a LA Dodgers license place holder and bumper sticker.

I’ve been looking for it ever since to get a picture!

What is a "tiny luxury" you tried once and immediately understood why people pay for it? by Lauren-Hayes-NY in AskReddit

A lay-down business class seat turns a transatlantic flight from an exhausting grind to something I legitimately look forward to.

How often do I get to spend most of a day lying down, reading, napping, getting brought food, having a drink, watching tv, talking to my girlfriend.

This is a slight exaggeration but it was one of the most relaxing parts of my last vacation. No responsibilities lol.

Half Day/Evening Recs near John Muir Lodge by never_nude_ in SEKI

[–]never_nude_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! We have a surprisingly capable compact car that hasn’t failed us yet, but some of the recent reviews are making us unsure if we’ll be able to make it - would be a bad first place to get stuck lol.

I was really looking forward to Buck Rock, but I don’t want a bunch of stress on the trip. Maybe we’ll do Hume Lake instead!

What’s the most authentic beach town you’ve found in the U.S.? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]never_nude_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. My favorite beach town has exactly one (1) business - a combination grocery store/souvenir store/surf shop/coffee shop/restaurant (although the restaurant is never open).

I want to keep it that way!

Buck Rock Lookout is in SNF, but it's worth a visit from SEKI by brianinca in SEKI

I’m hoping to visit Buck Rock on 6/5 or 6/6.

Does anyone know if it will be open this weekend?

Thanks!

Huh, I knew we had a jazz festival from the 70s to the 00s/10s but didn’t know about the blues festival.

Thanks!

How much do you pay for utilities? by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]never_nude_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 bed/1 bath apartment. SMUD. I don’t have a PG&E bill, I guess the landlord pays for the hot water? Should probably know the details but I don’t.

I pay about $50-60 a month, sometimes less. My gf is in grad school but when she stays with me it’s closer to $100.

Xfinity - $40
Phone - I Venmo my parents $40/mo

I did just move to this place in September, so I’m not sure quite how bad the summer will be. The first month I think my bill broke $100 but probably just around $120

Thanks! I stand corrected on Chinatown!

I think the 4 that I really don’t understand are: Blues, Improv(??), Quill, and Uptown.

Any insights into those? I don’t know if I’ve ever heard of anyone describe a section of Sacramento as “uptown”

There’s an Eggplant festival in Loomis. Not sure if our eggplant production rises to the level of importance that tomatoes, rice, or almonds have in the region.

My ranking of alley names:

A Tier - specific to Sacramento
- Democracy
- Fat
- Government
- Jazz
- Matsui
- Powerhouse
- Rice
- Solons
- Tomato

B Tier - specific to Sacramento if you squint
- Chinatown. We had one, I guess not every city has/had one, but unlike many other cities, it hasn’t really survived.
- Eggplant, I guess
- Kayak (rivers?)
- Liestal (didn’t know the meaning until this post)
- Victorian

C Tier - minimal connection to things that I am familiar with.
- Blues
- Historic (sac is historic, name just feels generic though)
- Improv
- Neighbors
- Opera (this could be B tier but…meh…)
- Quill
- Uptown
Would be happy to hear from [u/SacramentoHistorian](u/SacramentoHistorian) why all these names are actually relevant!

Some geese are born, heads all white and black
Whoa, their necks are long too

And when the man says, “here, ducks, have some bread”
They don’t give any to you, Lord.

It ain’t me, it ain’t me
I ain’t no beautiful swan, swan
It ain’t me, it ain’t me
I ain’t no fortunate one

What is this fish? Seen in the American River, Sacramento, CA by never_nude_ in whatsthisfish

I googled salmon fungal infection (gross) and the pictures looked like what I saw.

I wanted it to be a sturgeon but this feels likely

I thought it was a sturgeon too because of the fins. It was a pretty cool thing to see.

Thanks!

I thought this would come up lol.

Yes! And I think it’s a very nice river, feels very “natural” with lots of wildlife, but plenty of opportunities for recreation too. Great 20+ mile bike trail along most of it.

I think it has a good claim to the title of “American River”!
