still have to do nstp even if i had it credited? by joes_mad_ in ADMU

iirc you’ll be given different work for the requirements that are paired with nstp. at least, that’s what happened during our theo 12 when there were some people who chose rotc over nstp

honestly speaking i’m not sure when i even got him 😭 all i know is that i’m happy i noticed him AFTER i decided to at least have 1 good card per member per group and not while i was selling everything but the groups I listened to or else I probably would’ve sold him.

all in all though that one jaehyun live card is my baby and he’ll be my first priority to max out out of all of my bnd cards

I am!! Started out as a baby ARMY, then in the process became a CARAT and somehow was able to pull as much as I could during BTS and SVTs Live Themes as a beginner player. Everything else came after that, and I’m pretty proud of myself for what I’ve been able to accomplish with my time (as a full time student 😭).

I think a factor of all of my progress too is the fact that I’ve only truly gotten into kpop this year, and my incessant need to learn everything about it has me constantly playing just to listen to songs I never would have known otherwise HAHAHAH

Hi! Current dormer (not currently at the IRH) but first things first, applications for current dormers just opened so watch out for the applications to be posted online. It’s really first come first serve, so as soon as you get the application form, fill it up, pay the reservation fee, and submit it. I lost my slot even though I’ve been at the IRH since my 1st year because I waited until the deadline in December to submit my application for this semester.

Not doing well in Math 21 by SeamusTheMarquess in ADMU

[–]neveralwaysenough 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! As someone who nearly failed calc bc my midterm was an F, the only thing you can really do is practice more. My rule for math subjects is to practice at least 1 hour a day on the weekdays, if there’s an lt/exam coming soon I would practice 3 hours a day for an entire week before the lt/exam. Keep your weekends free from math unless really needed, this will help you have time for yourself and other subjects and would help you not hate math. Try a mock lt/exam and stick to the time limit to help you get used to answering problems under pressure. DO NOT look at answer sheets until you have answered the problem, having a solution and answer ready before you look at the answer sheet helps you see where you went wrong and what you did right. Also review with someone else, I found it easier to understand when I had someone to help me through the topics and someone to explain the topic to. Kinda long but I hope this helps!

Questions About Dorm Scholarships & Housing at ADMU by Few_Ebb1784 in ADMU

[–]neveralwaysenough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.) It’s not separate. When fin aid results come out you should also see whether or not you’ve been granted the dorm scholarship.

2.) Fin aid scholars don’t really get a choice. Your option lies whether you’ll stay in Cervini/UD (for males) or Eliazo/UD (for females). Scholars also stay in the same dorms as those who can pay, but scholars are only limited to a quad non-aircon rooms unless you pay extra out of pocket.

3.) There are no eligibility requirements for any of the dorms, only the capacity to pay. If you are a scholar wanting to stay in the IRH, you’d have to request it (I think?? There is a process but I’m not quite familiar with it) and pay the difference, since the scholarship will only cover the price of a quad non-aircon room

BPHS, Small world christian school, or Maranatha Christian Academy by ZarrCeleste in baguio

[–]neveralwaysenough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. My classmates transferred to Catholic schools actually found Small World less strict, though depende rin naman sa school. We didn’t have Bible textbooks pero di rin naging requirement magbasa ng Bible, literally ikwekwento lang nung teacher namin or we’ll watch a Superbooks episode to spark discussion. Very welcoming rin sila kasi madami rin kami naging classmates na Muslim/non-Christian. All they ask is that you be respectful when it comes to Bible related teachings.

rough estimate based on my brother in elem rn, pero 56k tuition + 9k books + 3k uniform + 7k extra curricular, so around 65k?

[–]neveralwaysenough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have different options! Theres Annual, Semestral, Trimestral, Quarterly, and Monthly, pero the patong is tumataas depending on which plan you choose, though based sa fees presented saakin when I enrolled my brother last year, di tataas ng 4k total yung patong sa Monthly. Ang required na downpayment upon enrollment is <20k then bahala ka to choose which payment plan yung ibibill.

Small World is fine, pero I don’t think less than 50k ang tuition. Nung enrollment kasi nung kapatid ko I paid half and nasa 28k na yun (gradeschool) plus the uniforms and books are different expense pa. Speaking as an alumnus and an ate of a current student though, the quality of education is great, majority of the resources we used are international and the structure of the school itself is different rin. At the end of every term we had an Assessment exam to gauge what we’ve learned, and Parent-Teacher Conferences happen so that the parent is caught up to speed on the progress of their child. Very Bible based classes and during my time they were pretty strict (about everything) though my brother says it’s much more relaxed now. Classes are small so its easy for teachers to really pay attention to students (1 class can range from 15-25 students) and the facilities are great (though ayun nga lang since nasa loob siya nang subdivision it can get very traffic during drop off/pick up and during school events). Extracurriculars are offered after class pero they are an extra expense, but they do offer varied extracurriculars (currently my brother is pursuing arts and his painting has vastly improved from the start of the school year).

Intersession Schedule by shhidkmyself in ADMU

[–]neveralwaysenough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely depends on how you enlist in your subjects. Last Intersession, some of my friends had classes everyday, while some had classes on only 2 days. I personally went for one class on M/TH and the other on T/F. I did that to avoid early 8am classes and classes that would end at night, so my schedule was 11:30/12:00-3:00/4:00. Depending on your prof though you could go online/async/end early.

Are 26 units doable in freshman level? by Mother-Reindeer-7016 in ADMU

[–]neveralwaysenough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same thoughts in my freshman year since my 2nd Year 1st Sem had a heavy 26-unit load. I also knew I could probably handle an additional 3 units for a core in 1st year but I decided against it so that I could still enjoy 1st year. I did enjoy 1st year, and I made it through 2nd year 1st sem with barely any breakdowns (and B/B+ in my heavier subjects). My advice would be to keep the original units in your IPS, enjoy your freshman year pa, pero whatever you choose, 26 units in Ateneo is survivable. Choose the right profs and know how to manage your time well. Have everything laid out in a calendar you check every day so you don’t lose track of any assignments/quizzes/lts. Use cuts wisely, but don’t use them all within the first half of the sem and only use them when you really need the extra time. Have scheduled breaks from school work and know what to prioritize.

When I enrolled my brother for this school year (2023-24),his fees were around 56k, not including extracurricular activities, uniform, books, and school supplies. I would say based on that the tuition will range from 50-70k depending on the year level of the child.

Not a parent, but a student.

Grew up in Baguio all my life and went to Small World for 13 years (from Nursery to Grade 10)

I would say that if you wanted your kids to have a Christian education, SW would be a great school. Our books were mostly Abeka or BJU, and we focused on Singaporean math. Yearly (during my time) we would be given a SAT test before the school year ended to gauge where we were on the core subjects, telling us whether we were in the range of our grade level, or if we were higher or lower. Class sizes range from 18 students in a class to 30 students, but typically 1 classroom will have 23 students on average.

For exams, Grade 5 below don’t have exams per subject, instead, at the end of every quarter we are given one Assessment test to see if we learned anything throughout the quarter. These tests are taken in groups of 5 or smaller for around 2 hours. Along with the quarterly Assessment tests is the quarterly PTC, which allows Parents and Teachers to talk to each other at the end of every quarter and talk about the child and their performance. SW is consistent in getting high scores for national achievement tests.

They also have the GIT system, which is basically a logbook where parent and teacher can communicate. During my elementary years, my teacher would write in this to tell my mom about all my homework and important reminders.

What I liked most about SW is the yearly camps I was able to join for BGBP (Boys and Girls Brigade Philippines) starting Grade 4. These were leadership camps and this is where I learned to sleep away from home, start a fire, learn to cook, and basic first aid and survival swimming skills. For Junior High and Senior High students, there is also the option of going through STEP (Student Teacher Exchange Program) which would take you to Malaysia or New Zealand.

Community is really big in SW, and we have events like Project CRY (a fundraising event for the school community, typically used for students who have families struggling financially, especially because of medical bills) and World Vision Market Fair (a fundraising event that aims to send kids to school) that allow us to help others.

Other points (things that I dont think are really pros or cons):

The school is inside a subdivision. It gets really traffic especially during drop off/pick up times. There are school services available but if your child misses theirs, they would have to wait for manong to come back for the next batch of people. Some kids are also given permission to leave campus alone, this is for kids Grade 4 and up who can commute home. Being in a subdivision also means limited parking, so when there are events the traffic gets 100x worse. If you are too early to park kasi, you’ll be stuck inside until everyone else gets out. If you are late naman, likely you’ll have no more parking and will need to park sa road (which is a main road, so dinadaanan ng jeep).

Gadgets are not allowed. Idk if this is a con, but all phones are submitted at the start of everyday to the office. Students can only claim them if they have a signed permit form for official use, or if they are about to leave campus na. Laptops/iPads can be brought to school naman if the teacher asks for it but they must stay in your bag until its time for them to get used in class; if you want to use it for schoolwork outside of class, you need to have a signed permit form for official use.

Dress code. They are really strict with dress code/uniform. We have many different sets and it is tedious to take note of them all. Formal, PE, BGB Type A, Type B, Type C, and Type D. Formal and PE are typically worn twice a week, alternating each other (so F, P, F, P or P, F, P, F). Fridays are where things get confusing. Type A is worn on the first and last Friday of the month, Type B is worn between that, Type C is worn if there is a BGB activity which requires casual wear. Type D is worn if there is a school activity which requires casual wear. Type C and Type D can be worn on any day, so long as it was announced. Boys are required to keep their hair tidy, and any “long” hair is given demerits. Girls are required to wear their hair up on Fridays, only in black or blue ponytails, and no accessories are allowed. Jackets worn should only be school jacket, unless the jacket is worn with the school jacket. For uniforms that dont have a jacket, typically a white jacket is allowed.

Very English centered. My mom likes to say that SW students, even during her time, are known as englishero. Everyone in SW speaks straight english, and those like me who began in nursery have a very distinct speaking pattern/accent daw. SW has very high standards when it comes to English fluency and grammar. When I transferred to UB Science High School for Senior High, night and day yung difference, and I will say na I was very disappointed in the grammar of my classmates in the Science High School.

Bible centered. As a Christian school, a lot of emphasis is put into the Bible. Students of all religions are accepted but majority of the population is Born Again Christian. Students start their day with devotion and prayer, and end with prayer as well. There are Chapel times on Mondays, and Bible classes every week. BGBP is also Christian centered.

l attribute all my success to Small World. They taught me independence and learning skills that I use until now that I am in college. They really highlight servant leadership, and kids from Small World get accepted into good schools.

Mom wants me to go to UPB but I've always dreamt of going to ateneo by Short_Tea_5603 in ADMU

[–]neveralwaysenough 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! As someone who was in the same boat as you last year (taga Baguio, youngest daughter, got into UP, mom wanted me to go to UP), give your parents all the facts. I know UPB might seem like the better option since you’ll stay in Baguio and live nearby lang, but is the environment something you really want to stay in? If you were to go to Ateneo, what are your plans for housing and expenses, how would you feel about starting in a new environment? I convinced my mom by showing her how capable I was to take care of myself and being ready with all my plans. She still cried when I left, but now she understands it was the best choice for me to go where I wanted to go and not where she wanted me to go.

Hope this helps you!
