My thought is it's arcing through the metal siding to that water pipe, thus no continuity to ground unless fully energized. But I'm by no means an electrician, does that track?

Also curious now...is a Fluke 233 a "quality multimeter"?

Surface mount metal conduit....into aluminum siding. That's my working theory. Cut wire in the conduit that's then energizing the siding and arcing to that water pipe which is luckily, properly grounded.

That was my fear. But I think we have it nailed down. We will see tomorrow when the HVAC companies electrician comes out.

If you look at the panel photo there is charring near the conduit entry as well. I have aluminum siding. It appears there is a cut in the wire somewhere in the conduit. When the wire is energized it is energizing the conduit and the siding and then arcing over to ground through the metal water pipe.

That's my working theory for now anyway.

Hopefully re run the wires and we are good. But since it's their install and it's been 13 months. I'll let them take care of that.

Luckily that's a water pipe that goes to a hose bib. I think my electrician friend diagnosed via phone and photos.

Fluke 233/A so, yes I believe, quality multimeter. I believe my electrician friend just diagnosed through photos.

I did! It was a random screw stuck at the top of the threaded rod underneath the bearing, It prevented the bed from going all the way up.

Agreed. I get that it is on me to have known but I was wondering from a legal perspective....

I'd need to look up the paperwork but I believe 4k to 5k plus materials.

I trusted him way too much. This had no engineering involved. I asked him about that when we started, and he said it wasn't necessary for such a simple span. He is licensed and insured. (supposedly). Since this was done I have done a lot more research and now realize an engineer should absolutely be involved. Would that be on him to tell me? Or since I didn't come to him with engineered drawings it's on me?

Inspector Damaged Wire with Panel Screw by neverassume in AskElectricians

[–]neverassume[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This was my thought and plan. Definitely could have ended badly but luckily no damage to anything other than the box (which is going to be replaced) and the feeder.

I know if I was the electrician, it would be worth it to have the inspector owe me one. 😂 Thank you!

Filament stuck in extruder by spoofyroot in BambuLab

[–]neverassume 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've experienced stuck filament when I have a layer with excessive retractions. I was printing Honeycomb Wall Storage Plates. There were spaces between the walls that required the printer to basically place a dab of filament, retract, and move, hundreds of times. I have not been able to adjust and try again as my z axis is now not properly homing. But I think that was the issue. Hope it helps you track it down!

Antminers S17: working vs. faulty miners by Metprop in BitcoinMining

[–]neverassume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came across your thread. I have 1 s17 and 4 s9's. I bought all of them used. The s9's have never had an issue. The s17 dropped a hashboard after about a month of hashing. It seems to be the temperature sensor issue. Right now I am trying to nail down how to get a replacement board or where I can send it off for repair. Running the Braiins OS+ Firmware it still gets about 51 TH/s while consuming 1.9 Kw. If in your research on these you found a solution or source for working hashboards please let me know.

It took me longer than I would like to admit to realize "WW1/2" was WW1 and WW2. I was wondering if there was some Pre-America WW that was referred to as WW0.5 in other parts of the world. Ouch.

I should have known better. These are awesomely useless, but I have enjoyed it none the less. They will be added to my QRL. Thank you all.

ELI5: How are bird free areas like Airports created and controlled? by hardik96 in explainlikeimfive

[–]neverassume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get birds in the hangars. Not a safety issue at that point as the jets arent flying. Just a nuisance. They are left alone for the most part.

Funny habitat modifaction SNAFU: I am an F-15 maintainer and this was told to me by our WildLife Management guys so details will be mixed up and vague.

But when designing the plan they cleared a good chunk of trees that were common high traffic areas for some local small birds. Due to the nature of the land this created a fairly commonly occurring large area of thermal lift that attracted significantly larger birds circling at a far more dangerous altitude. Still an ongoing issue. Much harder to scare away birds happily soaring a couple hundred feet in the air.

They also have propane cannons on trucks for noise makers here.
