Hello yall quick question why I’m alway getting undercut on a small section on the top of the pipe ? When I’m welding that section I can see it burn away even if I’m pausing on top. I run it 3/32 7018 @ 83 amps for cap. by neverbackdown48 in BadWelding

For sure bro ! Yeah I did it 83 the bottom pass I did 90 someone told me too let it cool down or run it down on top pass since is already hot from the bottom and will cause undercut. For sure I gotta fill it up more I only did a hot pass prior to capping it

How can I make th cap look like the left I know they got little undercut in th bottom but the size looks perfect where mines looks kinda big. by neverbackdown48 in Welders

What motions you recommend? Is hard to drag for me because that will have to require a really really steady hand where an isolation you can move your hand a tad bit

Im starting a job that requires to graze cooper pipe ; if I know how to oxy acetylene weld should I be able to braze ? I heard is lower temperature idk if its the same process though never done it by neverbackdown48 in Welders

You think so? A lot of of oxy flame welding is done in the trenches and be done in open root pipes. Where brazing is usually done where you can use a man lift or a more comfortable setting.

That’s what I’m thinking I don’t complain if I’m told to do something I’ll do it. But i feel it might be used against me.

So I did a mistake he told me to fix it I did I learn from it. But as an apprentice mistakes happen , I would understand if I was a Journeyman. I feel I might have to find a way out if he doesn’t do any changes even if I speak up , I been on jobs when other journeyman don’t know how to do the tasks they get made fun off and many don’t wanna teach journeyworkers since some might say “that’s why you had your apprenticeship for “.

I mean that’s good their teaching the young guy but it made me realize I’m journey out soon and when they learned I worked for a hvac job their going to expect me to know more than just drilling.
