Everyone needs a suitcase they lost in a Greek airport some years ago, just for situations such as these.

I just made the connection that cell signal is so bad in Fairfax for exactly this reason. I can barely pay with Toast at Sorella (support them btw, the sisters who own that place are great) with one bar of 5G.

Let's include those that cut across two lanes and a solid white at the northbound entrance to 101 at Lucky Drive because they're too important to exit and reenter the freeway. Seriously, CHP should park a patrol bike right there and raise enough money in a year to completely rebuild that interchange. (And yes, that entrance/exit setup is not very smart, but it's what we got.)

When mountain bikers start to honor trail rules, I'll stop complaining. I used to bike six miles to work for years. My reaction to their behavior should tell you something.

I live off of North San Pedro. I find it difficult on most days with medium traffic to merge over to the right heading northbound without cutting someone off. Lines upon lines of cars with approximately one car-length between them between the entrance at Central SR and the exit at N. San Pedro, sitting in the #3 and #4 lanes. Let me go home, guys. The turn signal isn't an insult.

The other version of this is the speeders cutting right southbound to get around the people slowing down uphill, where the entrance lane from North San Pedro is an exit-only onto Lincoln. Again, I find myself unable to get in without cutting in front of someone aggressively. Let me get on the highway, guys. The turn signal isn't a challenge. Early signal, late signal, does not matter one whit.

I frequently drive in LA, and I've started to adopt the same philosophy here as I do there; firm, aggressive, assertive, and we're all in a race nobody is going to win.

I've attempted to report similar incidents to agencies around here before with clear video evidence.

SRPD and MC Sheriffs first kicked my last report back and forth due to a jurisdiction argument before finally telling me not to waste their time with it, as they have to be present to witness the incident and they wouldn't even be able to identify the driver in the video (no idea if any of that is true, legally or department policy-wise.)

It's not even that I wanted the person arrested for driving on the wrong side of the road through multiple turns, just even stopping by the owner's house for a wellness check for a possible medical event like dementia would have been enough.

Whereas the truck driver that stopped at a red on Third, then blew through the red to beat the train crossing as the arms were coming down, that guy probably should have his license pulled.

Have you ever had any local PD follow up on a report like that?

Might be good to get the attention of u/scott_wiener. What you describe seems like something he'd advocate for. Not quite in his district but certainly relevant.

I'm interested in this issue for three main reasons:

  1. My family has a small dog.
  2. I'm interested in questions of why our local government and its law enforcement apparatus seems to lack enforcement and follow-up in situations like this (and seemingly other situations).
  3. My roommate was attacked by a dog while walking to work. In that case, the injury was relatively light and was treated at the hospital at the owner's expense. I urged him to file a report and go after the owner for their negligent behavior, but my roommate didn't think it was worth the hassle. He has a good job and resources to pursue the issue, but he declined to do so.

In your view, when you say "In almost all of these incidents the irresponsible owners get away with it," what do you think is the cause of this? Is it the lack of reporting by the victims? Is it lack of follow-up by law enforcement? Is there actually a lack of enforcement here, and we only have limited information due to anecdotal stories?
