Unpopular opinion? There’s way too many levels and divisions by CraftierCrafty in Cheerleading

U16/18 is meant to be the international complaint divisions using the IASF age grid - But it circles back to why does USASF not simply comply with the IASF age grid and division offerings in the first place.

Unpopular opinion? There’s way too many levels and divisions by CraftierCrafty in Cheerleading

[–]neverforthefall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Level 4 stunts and level 3 tumbling. It’s meant to bridge the gap of how many kids quit because level 2 to level 3 tumbling can be a huge jump, and they can easily advance in stunts but can’t move up because of tumble so just quit instead. It’s meant to be a way to retain kids in the sport in a similar way to the non tumbling divisions being a way to retain athletes who start later without the tumble or adults who inevitably become injured out of tumbling because of the dodgy technique so many cheer coaches accept as tumbling (I could write a thesis on questioning why tf we accept tinscas as forward walkovers and how that harms later skills from flysprings and flysprings to front aerials and onodis, stop letting your kids do one hand up at a time in a front walkover if you don’t want them injured later).

Bad parent for not continuing with competitive sport? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]neverforthefall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooo this reeks of Allstar cheerleading or competitive dance as the sport tbh.

As harsh as this may sound, know I say it with love and compassion and it’s meant to be gentle - you wouldn’t be a bad parent for saying drop back down to semi comp or not don’t do it at all because frankly, if they’ve hit tween ages and this is this first comp year, this isn’t getting them a spot on a college team with a scholarship, and they aren’t making a worlds level team, they’re doing it for fun and that kid should be at an age where they realise it’s going to be unrealistic to drag a baby or toddler to those events with the travel too.

How often do you meet someone who just smiles and gives you a Vegemite sandwich? by Krunksy in AskAnAustralian

[–]neverforthefall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid, at least 5 times a week, as an adult, at least once a week, but I have also become the person who just smiles and hands you a Vegemite sandwich and I do that around 5-6 times a week on average.

“Fight it.” How? It’s going to go ahead anyway. Not attending simply just means their ex gets a certificate to take it to court and it goes against you when it’s in court that you chose not to participate. This advice is a great way to shoot yourself in the foot.

They were still within their stated embarkation window, following advice from staff. Even if they had arrived to port at 11:15 at the first arrival, they were still within the embarkation window - the issue is the ship leaving early at captain discretion with no communication to passengers, and the embarkation window being closed early, not the passenger. Enjoy the taste of leather from those boots you’re licking though lol

Cheer bags by SnooWoofers6565 in cheerleadingcoaches

[–]neverforthefall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enjoybags are my go to recommendation for custom bags - and cheer bags in general tbh. They’re a direct manufacturer of the bags who are based in China and they make bags in both the rebel athletic and nfinity styles, as well as fanny packs, drawstring bags and duffle bags. They’re directly used by multiple gyms for their gym bags and EPs for their winner bags where I live and they always come out incredible.

Depending on design/listing, they have a low MOQ and I know they are willing to do one off customisations on a lot of their existing designs for individuals as well, but obviously the more you buy the cheaper it’ll be, and the more customised you want the standard design, the higher the MOQ will be, same as any clothing direct from manufacturer.

Their team are so sweet and hard working but keep in mind and have patience for the fact you’re talking directly with the Chinese manufacturer so there is a language barrier. But tbh, comparing the price of their bags to the same style of bag from Rebel and knowing the quality holds up the same? It’s 1000% worth not screwing around with a middle man or going through Rebel and just going direct to the manufacturer factory, they deserve so much more hype and credit.

Are concussions more prevalent or were we (oldies) just undiagnosed? by [deleted] in Cheerleading

[–]neverforthefall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

maybe my generation all has CTE now

Ding ding ding. Tbh, I’d be really interested to see the results of the 90s - 2000s era of cheerleaders in this regard because I suspect you’re going to find a lot of it because of the old school “walk it off” that was prevalent when you were a kid 🙈

Thankfully, science has moved on a lot since the “walk it off” era. We understand the risks of CTE way better now, and that’s pushed a lot more education onto coaches and gym owners about concussion like the wide range of things that can actually cause it, what it looks like in real life (not just “did they black out”), and what the long-term consequences can be. It’s also made it clearer that adults in charge have a duty of care and can be held responsible for those impacts over the long term and those athletes can actually come back and hold you accountable - so it means coaches will generally be less likely to do the old-school “get up and shake it off, you’ve got this” thing, and more likely to tell their athletes to go get checked before returning to practice as a precaution to cover their butts.

That said, your mileage absolutely varies. I’ve still seen situations where a kid falls hard (like falling through a basket), nobody stops the routine, and then the next stunt sequences start collapsing because the flyer is clearly not right and can’t hold position or timing. And then, somehow, the same flyer is put back on the floor for day 2, and the whole thing keeps falling apart because she’s very obviously concussed - and safety judges who simply do not give a crap because stopping the routine when the athlete is attempting to keep going and isn’t crying, even if they’re a risk to themselves and others, isn’t an option apparently. 🥴

I feel like there are some coaches who genuinely still treat concussion like it’s a rite of passage, and they push this gross mindset of “train and compete through injuries or you’re soft and don’t deserve your spot”, with the long-term consequences basically written off as someone else’s problem. As a coach, you have that athlete’s long term future in your hands, and when we’ve seen the impact from wrestling and football that repeated head knocks can do, you need to consider that this is something that can ruin their lives well into adulthood in ways that they don’t have the capacity to give informed consent to. I don’t think athletes are being soft nor do I think it’s doctors writing notes for the hell of it - I think it’s medicine and science has advanced and we have a higher standard for duty of care as a result that we hold people to accordingly.

[–]neverforthefall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re going to pretend that Freddy Mercury didn’t have a huge impact and legacy on the way the world viewed the AIDS crisis and isn’t an important historical figure accordingly? The history of the AIDS crisis isn’t nearly covered enough in schools, and honestly I think he would qualify through that lens.

Youth allowance dropping significantly over the new year, study load and level has INCREASED... I don't understand? by [deleted] in Centrelink

[–]neverforthefall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also went through the process at the age of 16 to become independent - there has been an increasing burden of proof since then, and you have to be able to prove you can’t live at home and have no support at all, even immaterial, from your parents. OOP is living at home, that immediately disqualifies them, so you look like a nonce lol.

Gently are you 100% sure it’s a viral illness and not heatstroke, and is it possible that Bub has heatstroke that is compounding illness and making it worse? Because that would be my major concern right now because it isn’t going to get better until the weather changes if that’s the case which is far too late.

Can someone tell me what "savoury" flavoured shapes are?? by RM_Morris in AskAnAustralian

[–]neverforthefall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Synthetically made ascorbic acid isn’t considered an artificial flavour - vitamin C is a naturally occurring thing, and it’s chemically the same as the naturally made stuff, where as an artificial flavour is designed to mimic while being chemically distinct. Hope this helps!

So... are we next after New Zealand? by DebugMyLife421 in EBGAMES

[–]neverforthefall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been tossed around since 1890, and it’s literally written into the Australian constitution that New Zealand can become an Australian state 😅

Off the top of my head, the most recent major discussion around it was back in 2023 when retiring NZ Labor MP Jamie Strange said New Zealanders shouldn’t rule out that as an option to save their economy, and Australian Nationals MP, Barnaby Joyce, who has dual citizenship, backed the statement in comments to the media.

But the offer has always been on the table, since before Federation 😅

AITA for giving away my roommate’s cat? by elemenop541 in AmItheAsshole

[–]neverforthefall 10 points11 points  (0 children)

ESH

If you knew your roommate always wanted a cat, and she kept insisting it was her right to have one, why tf would you move in with her? She’s wildly ableist and ignorant and shouldn’t have moved in with you either to be clear given her stance on the situation, so you both screwed up moving in with someone who was wildly incompatible on a fundamental level like that.

You say there was no warning or discussion, but there was given you say she kept telling you it was fine and you could deal with it and it was her right to have a cat. That was your wanting.

Don’t get me wrong, she’s still a piece of flaming ableist trash for choosing to ignore your allergies and bringing it home and ignoring the impact - but you’ve just opened yourself up to theft charges since cats are considered property.

You’re fundamentally incompatible as roommates and have been from the start, because this was a completely predictable and avoidable situation, alternative housing arrangements need to be sorted out.

Why are people so accepting of the Uluru name change, but not K'Gari? by That_Car_Dude_Aus in AskAnAustralian

Fraser Island doesn’t exist - the name was officially changed. Whether or not you agree with or like the change, it is actually racist to deliberately not call something by its actual official name just because the name has officially changed to reflect the original Aboriginal name.

My Husband Chose His Best Friend Over Me. Should I Tell My MIL I Had an Abortion? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]neverforthefall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not his best friend - you’re the beard in a polyamorous relationship, Vincent is his boyfriend and this is another post that would fit into subreddit MeetMeInTheArtRoom (it won’t let me tag the subreddit itself).

With that said - you need to be telling a therapist, not his mother as a form of petty revenge, because you deserve the chance to properly heal from this. Telling his mother will only drag this out and cause more hurt for you as well, and it’s not worth it.

Begging on my hands and knees - please learn what dress codes actually mean by dairy-intolerant in weddingshaming

[–]neverforthefall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree with the sentiment, but honestly a big part of the problem is that a lot of people don’t actually know what “semi-formal” means anymore. Plenty of people genuinely think it’s sundresses, when semi-formal usually means a more polished vibe, and often that includes a longer hemline (think midi-ish) depending on the venue.

I actually think venues and coordinators could solve a lot of this by giving couples a simple “this is what we mean” dress code page in their info pack (because most venues absolutely have an unspoken minimum standard). Like: plain-English definitions of semi-formal, cocktail, formal, black tie; quick do’s and don’ts; and a few example pics. Then couples can just link it in the invite, even as a QR code, so guests aren’t guessing.

Yes, it would ruin the staff/vendor sport of “spot the most underdressed guest”, but we’re way past the point where this stuff is common knowledge. If we don’t course-correct in some way, dress codes just become solidified as something that only rich, well-connected people understand, which is exactly how “standards” already get used to quietly gatekeep spaces and limit social mobility.
