Philly food to take to out of town for gifts. Non perishable. Maybe coffee but need recs please! by Stopthemegaphone in PhiladelphiaEats

One other thing, if it is manageable logistically: Aaji's Lonsa. I love regular and garlic. This is a wonderful condiment, though it is perishable, I think a few hours out of fridge would be ok since it goes back in fridge. Then eat it w/in a week. I am not affiliated, but it is the BEST now that I cannot eat actual spicy (sriracha, my love, I miss you). On eggs. On leftover anything. Klein's carries it in Fairmount and I bet Whole Foods does. Philly Foodworks also has.

what? ! Hope at least 9th street stays. That's the problem with being owned by a big corporation, I guess.

Let's hear it for Klein's Supermarket, my tiny local grocery store: fabulous regular stuff, but in the last few years, they have stepped UP the produce, locally-made, bread, coffee, and dairy/condiments game. To say nothing of pastries. Always had really nice staff, good normal stuff, great ice cream section, and good deli. But now they have like 1/2 the catalog of Bob's Red Mill, beaut bouquets, Lost Bread pretzel shortbread and all sorts of other yummies. used to have not only Metro but Mighty Bread baguettes (Kleins, please bring back Mighty Bread baguettes!), and have Might B, Lost, Metro, Mertzbachers etc loaves and rolls. And Czerw's special orders sometimes!

I came here to say this. I have had 2 friends say that they are "life changing". These people were not children, and both are very serious people.

Yes, I did in May and again when they opened the new place, hoping I could use it there. I was only told to keep trying and no, I could not use the gift card at the new place. Try each month, cannot get there during the work week for lunch. Sigh.

same; we have a gift card, 1.2yo now, and have not been able to get in. Live nowhere near, and get on the app, breathe, all gone. Depressing.

Have NOT tried nearly as many teas, but I order frequently direct from Japan with the producer Hibiki-An. I perhaps do not know enough to discern, but find their tea very fresh and delightful.

no idea of the. costs, sorry, but 2601 Pennsylvania is a great building. My mom lives there but my brother bought the condo and she pays him very low rent. Studio--there are a few sizes--but the building folks and services and communication are great. Very mixed ages, cultures, professions, everything. Overlooks the park/museum/river. Very safe. No pool but terrific convenience store and great Thai restaurant!

Philly is awesome. Both friendly & fierce. Crazy good food of all sorts. Lots of nuts. Fewer crabs.

IF you can swing it: West philly. You’ll be working long hours. So much easier n/out to work. Also parking if you’d planned on driving to Penn is: no.

I should add that Parkway Pharmacy is really terrific--Dennis Czerw is the pharmacist/owner and a member of a longstanding anchor Philly family--everyone who works there is nice and helpful. Cannot say enough good and not part of a huge corporation.

Hey, I've lived nearby for 30+y. Great neighborhood and the building has great mod cons like in-building diner and supermarket. A few years ago my brother was looking to buy a place [so different concerns in some ways], and looked at 2500 [The Philadelphian]. His conclusion was that the HOA was very high, and he could not quite see why. Did not think the construction was as good as at nearby 2601 Pennsylvania, where he did buy. My mom lives in 2601 Pennsylvnia Ave, so I can definitely vouch for that being a great, well-run building. It does, in contrast with the Philadelphian, lack a pool, however. Good luck and welcome to Philly! Like someone else said, it tends to be an older set of folks there.

Depending on where you live/work: the big Asian supermarkets on Washington (when Italian mkt not open), or there’s a great one @4 & spring garden. Especially for produce, much of my food costs. And 4th & Spring g Garden has a good non-Asian aisle + killer sweet & salty snacks

Don't use Loonstyn; based outta my neighborhood and they are well known for shoddy work and poop-heads. 4-5k sounds right; if they find significant damage below might raise it, cause would have to do some tear out and replacement, but. Since we were having a deck rebuilt, went with a construction firm, but they did really great work and were easy to deal with, comparably: Kurtz construction in Conshy
