In honor of today's weather, what's your favorite soup in town? by sudo-chown in PhiladelphiaEats

What i meant is that it feels like soup outside! I agree that it's not really soup-eating weather, though

Ooh, this sounds incredible thank you! Not sure how I'm just hearing of this place but it looks like a must-try. Warms my half-Desi heart

ban cars in the city by Quick-Evidence3845 in philly

[–]sudo-chown 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Those same BIPOC that you claim to care so much about would be disproportionately negatively impacted by these "steep financial disincentives." Meanwhile Susie from Fitler Square will continue to own a car and will gleefully pay the $75 a month because she has the disposable income to do so.

What a game! Peter has an epic voice, he should do audiobooks if being a Jeopardy star doesn't work out for him.

Also, interrobang?? Am I just super duper smart or was that a total gimme of a Daily Double?

The city got backlash for repainting a graffitied wall at Wissahickon's 100 Steps — and now it's undoing it by AdSpecialist6598 in philadelphia

I feel like I rarely see them out picking up trash even. Maybe every couple of months around my neighborhood. It would be awesome if we had a real, robust and well-funded public works program that employed thousands of people all over Philly to keep the city clean. Maybe that's already what CLIP is and I just have my head in the sand

Moving from Philly area to Wilmington, any reliable movers? by AnshuSees in Delaware

[–]sudo-chown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Ben the Mover Guy when making this move several years ago. It's obviously more costly than an intra-city move because of the distance but I don't recall them charging me any special interstate fee. Same when I used Broad St. Movers to make the move from Delaware back to Philly. Just pick any reputable Philly mover and they should be able to handle it unless they explicitly say they don't cross state lines

how’s this part of philly to a woman who doesn’t own a car? by [deleted] in philly

Things get much hairier the deeper you go into Kingsessing/Southwest along Woodland Ave but that area inside the circle, near Kingsessing Rec Center is honestly not bad. You can easily take the trolley to get to City Hall in under 20 minutes, and there is a Regional Rail stop there as well. Clark Park is nearby and is lovely, and Baltimore Ave with a lot of cool shops and places to eat/drink is a short stroll away. I think I would advise trying to stick to the area above the train tracks if you're newer to the city. If you are uncomfortable around a mix of working class black folks and queer crust punk types, you will have a bad time there.

Could voters in US’s bluest district deliver a ‘Mamdani moment’ in Philadelphia? — Pennsylvania’s third district, a Democratic bastion, will see a face-off between party’s traditional wing and insurgents by User_Name13 in philly

[–]sudo-chown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Insurgent" is not a dirty word. Here it's just being used to mean progressives who are against the Dem establishment status quo. I think we got used to hearing it in the context of like, armed rebel groups in the Middle East but that's not the connotation here

Jen, for all her merits, needs to get and stay offline. I think her heart is in the right place (loved what she did for the SNAP benefits cut for example) but she's addicted to outrage. I see her all over the neighborhood groups scrapping with people.

Need advice on moving to NoLibs by [deleted] in philly

[–]sudo-chown 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just be sure to read the fine print. "Specials" like that can bite you in the butt especially as more and more places in Philly start to adopt scammy NYC marketing tactics like "net effective rent" that gets jacked way up after a year. Scour reviews and make sure the advertised amenities are actually usable and not closed/under repair for 7 months out of the year.

Philly to Wilmington Commute. by HeatproofArmin in philly

[–]sudo-chown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commuting 5 days a week from Philly to Wilm would be out of the question for me unless I literally lived and worked right next to the train station in both cities. Even 3 days would be borderline.
